The days grew longer, the nights more demanding, as Ruby’s belly began to swell with the child that grew within her. The whispers of Snakebite were all but silent now, replaced by the gentle kick of new life, a symbol of the love that had carried her through the darkest of times. Her eyes, once dull with despair, now sparkled with the fire of rebellion, a silent vow to herself and her unborn child that she would not be a plaything forever.

As she felt the first flutter of life beneath her palm, she knew that she had found a new source of strength. The child grew, a beacon of hope in the shadowed halls of the palace, a reminder that she was more than just a vessel for Ulus Aydan’s desires. The whispers had led her here, but it was her love for Will and the promise of their shared destiny that would set her free.

The whispers grew quieter still as Ruby’s belly grew rounder, her skin stretched taut over the burgeoning life within. Ulus Aydan’s touch grew gentler, his eyes softer as he gazed upon her swollen form. He spoke of the child with a reverence that surprised her, hinting at a softness beneath the hardened exterior he presented to the world. Yet, she knew that she could never fully trust a man whose power was as vast as the desert sands.

The whispers grew faint as Ruby’s belly swelled with new life, a testament to her resilience and the love that had survived the harshness of her past. Each flutter and kick from the child within her was a silent promise that she would not be broken, that she would find a way to escape the velvet prison of the palace. Her thoughts turned to Will, her love for him a fierce blaze that burned away the shackles of despair.

Ulus Aydan, though cruel in his desire, was not without his moments of tenderness. He spoke to her belly, his rough voice gentle, whispering promises of a future where their child would know power and wealth beyond measure. Yet, Ruby knew that true freedom could never be bought, it had to be fought for, and she would not rest until she had claimed it for herself and her son.

The whispers of Snakebite had led her down a dark path, but in the embrace of the Ottoman palace, she found a flicker of light. It was not the freedom she had dreamed of, but it was a start. With each passing moment, Ruby’s resolve grew stronger, the whispers of her past fading into the background as she focused on the future. Her son, her love, and her fiery spirit would be her weapons, and with them, she would conquer the shadows that threatened to consume her.

The child grew, a silent testament to Ruby’s determination, and with it, so did her plan. The wives, once cold and unyielding, had become her allies, sharing their own stories of struggle and survival. Together, they wove a tapestry of deception, each thread a step closer to freedom. The whispers of Snakebite grew quieter still, drowned out by the laughter of her unborn child and the whispers of hope that grew stronger with each stitch.

In the quiet of the night, when the palace slumbered, Ruby would slip from her silken sheets, her eyes gleaming with the fire of rebellion. She would pace the marble floors, her bare feet cold against the stone, her thoughts racing with plans of escape. The whispers of Snakebite had brought her here, but it was the promise of a new life that would lead her to victory.

Meanwhile, across the vast expanse of ocean, Will’s journey had taken a dramatic turn. Having received a mysterious map from an old sailor, he and a band of loyal friends, including the reformed Captain Jobba, had set sail for the fabled treasure of the Crimson Whale. The whispers of Snakebite had been replaced by the call of the sea, the creak of the ship’s timbers, and the camaraderie of his newfound crew. His fencing skills, once a symbol of his escape from the whispers, had transformed into a tool for survival, earning him the respect of the rough and tumble men who now called him captain.

The Nest, a pirate haven nestled in the crooked arms of a rocky cove, had been their destination for weeks. As they approached, the air grew thick with anticipation, the whispers of adventure and danger blending with the salty sea spray. The crew’s excitement was palpable, their eyes alight with dreams of gold and glory. Yet, as they docked the ship and stepped onto the treacherous shores, Will’s thoughts remained fixed on Ruby, the woman whose love and strength had shaped him into the man he was today.

The cobblestone streets of the bustling port town were alive with the cacophony of merchants, sailors, and scoundrels, each with a tale to tell and a coin to be earned. It was here, amidst the chaos, that Will stumbled upon a trio of beggars huddled around a crackling fire. Their faces, a tapestry of scars and hardship, bore witness to lives lived on the razor’s edge. As he approached, they fell silent, their eyes wary, assessing the newcomer who bore the mark of the sea but not the stench of the gutter.

He offered them food and drink, coins clinking in his pockets, a gesture of goodwill that spoke louder than any words. The oldest of the trio, a grizzled man with a wooden leg and a patch over one eye, took a swig from the bottle Will offered and spoke in a gravelly voice, “I heard tell of a woman, as fiery as her hair, snatched from the streets of the Royal Kingdom and brought to these shores.” The whispers of Snakebite grew restless at the mention of Ruby, their venomous tendrils coiling around Will’s heart.

The second beggar, a woman with a scar that sliced through her cheek, nodded in agreement, her eyes gleaming with the faintest glimmer of recognition. “Aye, she was taken to Avret Pazarları, the slave market in Istanbul. A fine prize, she was, bought by the highest bidder.” The words hung in the air, heavy with the scent of betrayal and despair. Will’s hand tightened around the hilt of his sword, the whispers of Snakebite urging him to lash out, to seek vengeance.

But he knew that anger would not serve him now. He needed information, a way to navigate the treacherous waters that lay ahead. So, he leaned in closer, his voice a low growl. “Tell me everything you know, and you’ll be well-rewarded.” The beggars exchanged a look, the unspoken language of the streets passing between them.

The third beggar, a young lad with a missing tooth and a mischievous grin, spoke up. “I know a man, a trader named Beyhan Inan, who sails to Istanbul on the Silk Road. He’s got connections in Avret Pazarları. For the right price, he might be able to find her.” The whispers of Snakebite grew louder, their seductive promise of power and vengeance coiling around Will’s thoughts. But he pushed them down, focusing instead on the flicker of hope that had been kindled in his chest.

With a steely resolve, Will bought the fastest horses the port had to offer and set out with Captain Cedric, Hahn, Gereminus, and Tholy. They rode hard across the dusty plains, the wind whipping their hair and the sun beating down upon their backs. Each man had their own reasons for joining the quest, their eyes reflecting a mix of loyalty and greed, but Will’s motivation was clear: the love for his mother and the fiery spirit she had instilled in him.

They arrived in Istanbul, a city of spices and secrets, where the whispers of Snakebite were but a distant memory. The air was thick with the scent of exotic blossoms and the sound of a thousand tongues, each telling tales of love and betrayal. Will and his companions dismounted their horses, the animals’ hooves clattering against the cobblestone streets. The city was a whirlwind of color and motion, a stark contrast to the dusty stillness of Snakebite.

Their quest led them to the bustling Avret Pazarları, the very place Ruby had been bought and sold. The sight of the grand bazaar brought a wave of anger and determination to Will’s heart, his eyes scanning the crowded stalls for any sign of Beyhan Inan. They approached a man with a hooked nose and a greasy smile, the kind that spoke of a life lived in the shadows. He claimed to know of the trader and offered to guide them for a price.

The group followed the man through the twisting alleys of the bazaar, their eyes darting from side to side, taking in the bustle of the market. The whispers of Snakebite grew faint as Will felt the pulse of a new adventure, a promise of redemption and hope that thrummed through his veins like the beating of a drum. They eventually reached a small, nondescript stall at the market’s edge, where the man with the hooked nose disappeared into the shadows, his task complete.

Beyhan Inan was a man of few words but sharp eyes that missed nothing. He regarded Will and his companions with a cool gaze, his curiosity piqued by the desperation that clung to them like a second skin. Will laid the map on the counter, his hand steady despite the tremble in his voice. “We’ve come for information,” he said, “about a woman named Ruby, bought here, months ago.”

The trader studied the map, his eyes narrowing. “What makes you think I know anything about this?” His voice was like gravel, rough and unyielding. But Will could see the glimmer of greed in his gaze, the promise of a lucrative deal. He named a sum that made the man’s eyes widen, and the whispers grew quieter still as the sound of coins exchanging hands drowned them out.
