Jane was inside making something for lunch when Veronica came downstairs, moving to hug Jane and giving her a gentle kiss. “Good morning honey.” Veronica said as their kiss broke up.
“Good morning honey. Sleep well?”
Veronica stretched, arms above her head, moving her torso stretching some unknown muscle groups, before she answered. “I did. Though, I need to get to bed earlier if I want a chance to share breakfast with everyone else. Did Lisa and Frank head to the club?”
“They sure did. Are you working today?”
“I think so.” She said, then shifted her focus to her WE calendar. “Not today, but tomorrow morning for sure.” Veronica moved to stand by Jane, her arm around her wife’s waist, “What’s for breakfast?”
Jane just smiled warmly, then pulled Veronica closer, “I left some pancakes for you in the fridge and some bacon and eggs. All should be in a storage container.”
“Do we have chocolate chips?”
“You know we do.”
Veronica released Jane and moved quickly to the fridge, bouncing on her toes happily. She found the pancakes, eggs and bacon and after opening a drawer, found the chocolate chips. She pulled them all out and carried it all over to the counter so that she could warm them up. Eggs and bacon went into the microwave while two pancakes went into the toaster.
Minutes later, Veronica was making a happy ‘HMMM’ as she ate. “Janey, you make the best breakfast. Thank you so much.”
“Thank you and you are welcome my love. I’m always happy to show love through food.”
Veronica smiled, a mouthful of pancake and reached over to touch Jane’s hand as a sign of love.
They chatted while each ate their meal until their meals were done. After cleaning up the kitchen, they retired to the family room and the big cuddle couch. Jane had undressed, showered, and joined Veronica for some quiet time before the kids got home from school.
The club opened before Frank and Lisa had arrived. They walked through, greeting those they knew heading to the elevator to take them to their offices. Frank went to his office in the corner while Lisa went to hers. She was soon notified that her interview for a new dancer had arrived. Kaylee was brought up and Lisa greeted her with a happy smile and solid handshake.
“Welcome. Welcome. I’m so glad to meet you Kaylee. Come sit down and let’s talk.”
Kaylee was in her forties, though like everyone these days, she appeared no older than 21. Her brown hair was pulled back into a sleek, professional ponytail that gave her a serious air while still highlighting her natural beauty. She had a cute little nose, full lips that looked made for kissing, and a quiet nervousness about her as she glanced around at her surroundings. Dressed in a simple one-piece dress that ended just above her knees, with bare arms and a rather large purse tucked under one arm, she looked every bit the poised, lovely woman—just with a hint of uncertainty in her eyes.
“Kaylee, tell me—why do you want to work here?” Lisa asked, starting the conversation the same way she always did.
Kaylee glanced down at her hands, voice barely above a whisper. “My ex-husband went to jail years ago. He’s barred from ever seeing me again. Since then ... I’ve just been surviving. Alone.”
Then she looked up, and Lisa saw something new spark in her eyes—resolve, maybe even fire.
“But I want more than survival. I want to feel something again. I want to feel excited, desired ... sexy. I’ve been stuck in an office job just trying to get by. But look at me now. I’m beautiful—hell, I look better than I did at 21. And I’m ready to be something more. I don’t know if you understand, but this—this is my shot to break out.”
Lisa reached across the table and took Kaylee’s hand, steady and sincere. “I understand completely. My husband owns this club. He pulled me out of the life I was in and showed me what real love feels like—for the first time in my life. He lets me run this place, and I’ve poured my heart into it. I want you to succeed too, Kaylee.”
Kaylee blinked, a little stunned by the warmth in Lisa’s tone.
“So let’s start right,” Lisa continued. “Did you bring an outfit in that bag of yours, or would you like to borrow something?”
