With a loud crack the bright white light of the Fairy’s house appeared out of the corner of my eye. The same white picket fence, the same large fruit bearing tree with a basket sitting at its roots. I could feel her presence getting closer, then finally, the gentle caress of her hand on the back of my neck.
“Oh, my sweet man ... Are you okay?” the divine voice asks softly.
“NO!” I yelled, spinning to face her, tears streaking down my face. “No, I’m not.”
“Human...” She said, looking into my eyes.
“You told me to go to Sensluttia,” I said, staring at her. “You told me I had to go, so we headed that direction. If we hadn’t ... if we’d never taken that road ... there wouldn’t have been a lake, there wouldn’t have been a song, there wouldn’t have been a naga.” I choked on the last word before taking a deep breath and continuing. “Sinthia was turned to stone! Kira died in my hands! Even after I made love to her, and filled her womb with my cum, it wasn’t enough! None of it was enough, because she still died! She said thank you and she ... and she...”
The ethereal figure knelt beside me, wrapping her arms around me and pulled me to her chest. She held me close as I cried. She kissed my head and stroked my back. Her wings surrounded us both and her glow grew brighter, casting out the darkness and replacing it with the warmth of her light.
“I hear you,” she says softly. “And I see your grief.”
“Do you?” I jerk my head up. I’m shouting before I mean to. “Do you? Because it was your voice. Your plan. Your path. I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t ask for any of this. You give me a curse that looked like a gift and then you point me toward a city I don’t know anything about and tell me to go, but won’t answer any of my questions, and now ... now, the people that are relying on me to save them are dead. Two of them. Two of them are gone, and I can’t even ... I can’t...”
The words catch in my throat and the tears start to flow again.
“Oh, my dear...” The fairy cooed. “Oh, my dearest human. It was never meant to be a burden. I never wanted that. But your destiny, yours alone, is more important than anything else, and the world needs you. More than you know.”
“So what, it’s okay for two women, who have come to mean so much to me, to die, so that some unwritten future will be saved?”
“That is a cruel way to put it, but yes.” The fairy nods.
“Bullshit,” I growl, standing up and moving away from her. “Why? Because someone says it has to be that way? Fuck that. Fuck all of this. And you.”
“I’m sorry, Human. If there was another way-”
“There’s always another way!” I shouted. “You’re a fairy! You have powers! Bring. Them. Both. Back.”
The fairy looked at me, her eyes had an ancient kindness shining in their depths, as if she had seen this kind of heartache many times before. Her wings drooped, their radiance dimming, and a single tear fell from her face.
“You ask much of me, human,” she whispered, her voice flowing in the darkness. “More than almost anyone would dare, especially a human. And yet ... you dare, because you love them. You are a special man, and for that I admire you. So, I will grant you your wish. Though nothing comes without a cost, there is a promise must make to me, or else the magic will be undone, returning them to their untimely fates. As well as a risk factor that, should it happen again, I can not be responsible for and you will need to complete your promise regardless. Do you understand?”
“I don’t care,” I answered without hesitation, ignoring her warning. “If they can live, I’ll do whatever you ask.”
“You must swear to me, here and now, by every hope and every longing in your heart, that you will see this quest through to the end. No matter what happens. No matter what you must face, or what you lose, you will reach Sensluttia. You will not abandon this path.”
“I swear,” I whispered. “If you bring them back, if you make their gifts permanent, I’ll get to Sensluttia and await your next instruction. I’ll finish this quest, I swear it.”
“Then so shall it be,” the fairy smiled.
She rose, wings unfurling with a sound like thunder and rainfall and summer wind all at once. Her arms spread, and light burst from her palms, filling the area with a blinding brilliance, the dark void replaced by an endless expanse of white radiance.
“Just as I gifted your body before, I will now bless both Kira and Sinthia with the gift of life, and their enhancements will be theirs forever. Nothing, not even magic, will strip them away. This is my vow as guardian of your fate, so long as you follow the path I have given you.”
The world blazed white around us, magic swirling and dancing like fireflies. I closed my eyes, the fairy’s glow burning against my eyelids, her final words echoing in the darkness:
“When you open them, they will live once more. But beware, Human, the journey is not done.”
I opened my eyes.
Wind like shattered glass against my skin and stole the breath from my throat. The first gasp broke into the air as a cloud, instantly torn away by the gale. Snow swallowed up to my knees, covering my shins and packing around my calves, numbing me to the bone. Only then did I realize I was naked. Every inch of me prickled and burned, a thousand bites of cold, and the icy kiss of the blizzard left a frost coating my chest, arms, thighs. My hands were already red, my cock shriveled, my balls pulled up tight and shivering.
Where was the lake? The dark forest? The Naga’s lake? Where were they? Where was Sinthia? Where was Kira? Where were Willowyn and Seraphine?
Their faces hit me all at once, like the heat my body craved but no longer had.
