Chapter 10
Coming of Age Sex Story: Chapter 10 - At 19, our main character feels left behind. While his friends seem to have moved on to new relationships and experiences, he's still stuck with an unwanted title—virgin. It's not for lack of trying; he's had chances, moments that almost became something more. But for reasons he can’t explain, it never worked out. Disappointment slowly turned into doubt, and doubt turned into the belief that maybe he just wasn’t meant for love or connection.

I asked this question because a few years after my father’s death she finally started seeing other men, which was something that never bothered me - aside from a mild feeling of envy that came up each time I saw her with a guy - I knew she’d eventually have to move on with her life. But for some reason, none of her relationships seemed to last. She’d go out with a guy for a week or two and then after that I’d never see him again. The only relationship that lasted for a few months was the one she shared with Don, but they parted ways a year earlier.
“Umm, I’d rather just focus on my job right now than be in a relationship.”
Ah, the classic “I’d rather focus on my career” excuse. “Yea, but, Mom ... it’s been a year.”
“I know.” She sighed. “If I’m honest, I’m not dating anymore because most of these men out here only seem interested in sleeping with me and none of them seem capable of making me as happy as your father did. Besides, I don’t want to be in a relationship just for the sake of being in a relationship.”
“Is that why you still wear your wedding ring?”
Mom’s left hand twitched before it rose so she could take a look at her ring. The only time she took it off was when she was in a relationship or on a date. She’d always place it beside Dad’s ring, which was in the living room beside his urn and our family portrait. But as soon as that date or relationship was over, it would go right back on her finger. I noticed a flicker of sadness in her eyes.
“I get it.” I placed a hand on one of hers. “And besides, you don’t need to find another man - you’ve got me.”
Mom smiled. “Hey, did you know your father used to love bringing me here?”
I didn’t.
Mom and I ate our food, drank our wine and spoke about everything that came to mind, which included school, work, Kirsten and even the touchy subject of which school I planned on going to the next year, as it was in another province. She also continued to give me advice on how I should conduct myself on my date with Rochelle. All in all, it was a great night and it made me wonder why we didn’t go out more often.
We shared a bowl of ice-cream before we paid the bill and then headed to the front desk to pick up Mom’s coat. Then we headed to the parking lot, where I made sure I opened the car door for her before I jumped into the driver’s seat to take us home.
“Thanks for letting me take you out on this ‘date’ tonight,” I said, using air quotes, as we walked to the front door, “and for all the advice you gave me.”
“No problem, sweetie. And if you behave the way you did tonight on your date with Rochelle, she’ll be throwing herself at you as soon as you get to her place.”
