The true root cause may never be known, but the chaos and joy the political and legal events of the year 2000 left in their wake were overwhelming. Some say tap water in the Capitol was polluted with a brain pathogen. Some say ingredients supplied to restaurants around DC were laced with psychotropic drugs. Others blame the Y2K computer crisis, demons, or space aliens. The cause doesn’t really matter now, and the effects were tremendous.
Our family watched television during supper, as usual. We thought it would be tedious and boring to listen while the President gave a speech, but WOW were we wrong! He was up for re-election in half a year, and desperate to improve his chances.
“Since the Senate and House of Representatives refused to act, to assure family fairness and proper nutrition and safety of all young people, I just signed the ‘Triple-F / SOS Executive Order.’ It stands for ‘Family Feeding Fairness and Safe Offspring Satisfaction.’
“Mothers were already allowed to publicly breastfeed their children up to age three. The only minor change to that is requiring them to breastfeed their children until age three, and in public at least once a day, in front of at least ten strangers. This will assure proper nutrition for the little tykes and give the lesbians and straight men nearby a better day.”

I wondered if it was some kind of joke or prank, and returned to watching the speech.
