The night wore on. Even Adam had begun to feel tired by the end of it, and the others were absolutely exhausted. Eventually, not long after midnight, Kendra, Holly, and Emily retired to Delilah’s room. There was some half-hearted argument made that they couldn’t just take over the bed, but it was dismissed. Kendra and Holly had one of their classes to run in the morning, and needed to get a decent nights rest.

While Adam and Delilah had been chivvying the three women into bed, Erin had pretty much passed out on the piles of cushions on the floor. After taking a moment to admire how restful she looked, Adam had carried his mother into Delilah’s room and put her to bed with the others.

Afterwards, as they regarded all the quietly sleeping women, Delilah leant against Adam, her shoulder bumping his affectionately. Her voice was hushed so that she wouldn’t wake them.

“I don’t think my bed has ever looked quite so appealing. Not that there is any room left for me. Or you.”

Adam nodded, a tired smile on his face. He put an arm around Delilah’s waist, and then casually let it drop down, resting on the curve of her ass. Adam moved his hand back and forth over her buttocks, enjoying the silken perfection of her ivory skin. They were both still naked as there hadn’t really seemed any point to getting dressed again. Adam was beginning to see the appeal in Delilah’s habitual lack of attire.

“I know what you mean. Still, they are a lot more tired than we are.”

“Yes. That may change in the future, but let’s let them sleep for now.”

Adam raised an eyebrow at that, but he didn’t comment. He quietly closed the door to the bedroom, then they turned their attention to the rest of the house.

They set about tidying up the living room first, Adam and Delilah working together in putting the cushions back on the sofa’s, folding up the blankets and collecting the pillows. Once done, the two of them curled up on the two-seater, with Delilah resting her head on Adam’s shoulder.

“So, are you feeling better now, Adam?”

Delilah was absently trailing the backs of her fingers across Adam’s thigh. The light touch made him shiver a little, but it was pleasurable. Adam had his arm around Delilah’s waist, and he pulled her a little closer into him as he thought about her question.

“Yeah, I am. Or ... perhaps I should say that it was nice not to have to think of anything for a while.”

Delilah laughed quietly to herself, snuggling harder into Adam’s side.

“Only ‘nice’? Don’t tell Kendra that, or she’ll be hurt. I think she was going for something a little more impressive than ‘nice’.”

“Don’t worry I won’t. And I did enjoy it — all of you are incredible, and I really am so lucky, but...”

Delilah stilled, and she sighed.

“Yes. It’s always there, at the back of your mind. Tomorrow ... tomorrow we will have to make some concrete plans. Your father will be here in a few days. Even if we don’t know why he’s bothering.”

Adam’s voice was soft.

“Yeah. That’s the real issue, isn’t it. I don’t know exactly what he did in the Cave, but we should assume he now has at least the same amount of power as Todd. If he’s got that, why come back here at all?”

Delilah rubbed at her face tiredly.

“Control? Men like that ... it’s not about having enough or quitting while they’re ahead. They can’t stand the thought of losing any of their possessions.”

Adam nodded, his face grim.

“Mom. Maybe Tessa, but mostly my Mom. That’s not going to go well for him if that’s what he’s after.”

Delilah nodded, in complete agreement. She clenched her fist.

“Exactly. I’ve made certain promises ... I intend to keep them.”

“Yeah. Everyone is going to stay safe. No matter what.”

Delilah hesitated for a second.

“In light of that, Adam, there has been something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about. Something that will affect all of us — maybe keep everyone safely together.”

“Oh?”

Delilah nodded again. She pulled away from Adam, her face serious. She gathered her legs beneath her, kneeling on the sofa as she faced him. She rested her hands flat on top of her thighs. The long strands of her raven-coloured hair curled around her neck and shoulders, the ends brushing against the upper swell of her breasts. It was ... oddly formal, for all that she was still stark naked.

“I’ve know about what you’ve been planning, Adam. Both from what you’ve told me and what I’ve heard from the girls. About living with them.”

“You have? Well, it isn’t exactly anything concrete, Delilah. More just exploring options.”

Delilah regarded him steadily, waiting for him to finish.

“Yes, but it aligns with what I have been thinking about. Adam ... you have discussed the possibility of moving in with Kendra and Holly. Even talked about having your sister join the three of you. But that isn’t ambitious enough.”

“It isn’t?”

Delilah shook her head.

“No, it isn’t. I admire the fact that you are casting off your shackles. No longer living a life that was decided for you in regards to your studies. I can even understand the appeal in moving somewhere completely different, completely unknown. Exploring somewhere new, with three gorgeous women by your side ... but that isn’t enough. Is it?”

Adam opened his mouth ... but then thought about it. Really thought. She was right in a way — Delilah did paint a pretty picture. Living somewhere new, a different city. Living with Holly and Kendra — and Emily. Adam knew nothing about their place, and he didn’t really care. But if he did go through with that, it would mean that he would be leaving his mother behind.

And Delilah.

And that wasn’t something that he was willing to do.

Delilah’s lips quirked into a crooked smile as she saw the realisation dawn on Adam.

“It’s not so easy, is it?”

“No. It isn’t.”

Just as Adam was beginning to feel down, Delilah suddenly clapped her hands together — looking momentarily guilty at the loud sound it created. When it looked like no one sleeping had stirred, Delilah continued.

“So it’s just as well that I’ve been thinking ahead. Come with me, I want to show you something.”

Delilah unfolded herself gracefully from the sofa, and held out a hand to Adam. She pulled him to his feet, and then started to lead him towards the front door.

Adam glanced behind them to where their clothing lay folded.

“Should we get dressed first? Where are we going?”

Delilah just shook her head.

“No, there’s no need. It’s a warm night, and we aren’t going far.”

They walked outside, and then down the steps. Adam was half expecting Delilah to lead him under her house, or towards the tunnel set into the hillside, but instead she headed towards the edge of the clearing. If he was honest, Adam wasn’t paying a great deal of attention to their surroundings anyway. He was more focused upon Delilah’s rolling hips and the way the muscles in her buttocks and legs shifted as she walked.

Delilah, naked, and walking amongst nature at night, was more than a little enchanting. Her skin seemed to be glowing.

Delilah’s house was situated upon a small plateau, a wider and flatter spot set up in the hills above Serenity Falls. The tree cover was thick enough that while you could see the ocean, you could only see a small portion of the actual beach. You couldn’t see the resort at all. Adam had always just assumed that the plateau was a natural formation, a small area that had been used by Delilah’s grandfather — perhaps having been widened by hand a touch, but that was it. But now Adam wasn’t so sure.

The two of them walked to the tree-line, and Adam realised that it was quite scrubby, with little to no mature trees. It was mainly just saplings and young growth. He thought that they would stop there, but Delilah just walked into the brush. Adam paused, eyeing the bushes and plants somewhat apprehensively. Then he turned slightly side-on and followed Delilah.

Adam was surprised at how flat everything was. The forest was deceptive, but now he realised that the plateau they were on was far larger than he thought. At least double, or maybe even triple the area that Delilah’s house occupied. What’s more, it had obviously been clear-felled at one point.

Adam raised his voice slightly, swatting away a palm frond away from his face.

“This wasn’t where I thought the night would end up.”

Delilah turned, looking over her shoulder at Adam. Her expression was amused, particularly when she saw how carefully he was walking. In contrast, Delilah seemed to be navigating the underbrush with ease.

“I know, me either. But ... it is appropriate. Particularly for what I want to talk to you about. You’ll see, we are nearly there.”

Delilah led Adam to the edge of the plateau. A fact that was readily obvious by the fact that Adam realised that he was now looking down at the tops of the trees below them. The incline was steep and sudden, subtle to the point that he might have missed it if he was by himself; particularly in the dim light.

Instead of stopping, Delilah turned at a right angle and moved towards the cutaway on the side of the hill. There were steps, roughly hacked into the rock — although it was a steep enough ascent that it was more accurate to call it a kind of ladder. Delilah lithely started to scale the stairs, and even with his increased agility, Adam took a second to centre himself before following. The upshot was that he had a rather captivating view of Delilah from below as she climbed.

Adam climbed up, scaling swiftly. It wasn’t far, barely twenty feet, and ended at the top of an oddly flat boulder. Even though they weren’t all that much higher than the level of the plateau, they rose above the scrubby foliage they had walked through — and they towered over the tree-tops below that.

Adam breathed out a long breath.

“Wow. That’s a hell of a view.”

From this vantage point, they could see much more of the beach. The ribbon of sand stretched along the shoreline, illuminated by moonlight. It was past the full-moon, but there was still enough light to see by. The ocean appeared black with sparkling motes of light — the stars overhead — reflected upon the surface.

Adam turned to Delilah, who had yet to say anything. She was just staring out at the view.

“Delilah, this is incredible. I had no idea there was so much space up here. Let alone the view!”

Delilah turned, taking Adam by the hands. She squeezed gently.

“I think ... I think that this place was always intended to be more than just the original buildings down on the lowlands. Where I ended up building Serenity Falls. It makes sense for a resort, but not for my grandfather’s grandiose plans. But you know how that all ended. When I first came up here — to the spot where I built my home, there was nothing but the tunnel. Well, there was the small shack at the entrance. But the land had been cleared, prepped for something more. Remember how I told you that I found the map in my grandfather’s private quarters? There were places marked for buildings that hadn’t been constructed yet.”

Adam looked down into Delilah’s gorgeous face. He couldn’t read her expression, except that it was faintly hopeful. Not for the first time, Adam wished that he could feel Delilah’s emotions better. He squeezed her hands back, his voice soft.

“Why are you telling me this?”

Delilah took a deep breath. She gently extricated her hands from his, folding them across her chest as she turned slightly away from him. Like she was unsure. She cleared her throat.

“You know, it wouldn’t take all that much to clear this area again. It’s even bigger than it appears. A lot of space. More than enough room for multiple buildings. Of course I’d have to get the road leading up here resurfaced and graded. It’s been at least fifteen years since I bothered having any work done on it. There didn’t seem to be any point to it when the only vehicle that used it was the ATV.”

“ ... I see?”

Delilah smiled at Adam being so cagey.

“You want to make me spell it out for you, don’t you? Well, Adam, as things now stand with the women who you have taken into your life — who you now know will be intrinsically linked to you forever — I would like to offer you all a home.”

Adam stared at Delilah, his head spinning. Somewhere at the back of his mind he’d thought about it — although it had been more along the lines of daydreaming about his holiday never ending. But this...

“Delilah, could we even do this? I mean, isn’t this ... too much?”

Delilah gestured out at the overgrown plateau.

“It’s less involved than it sounds. My own home is simplistic in design. You’d be surprised at how quickly it was put up — although that was many years ago. And ... I’m not sure if I could handle you leaving, Adam. Leaving me. I thought I could, but over the last week I’ve found myself changing — far more than I’d thought possible. And I would ... miss your mother. And I could not ask her to abandon you for me. Even if I wanted that.”

Adam looked around him. He felt like he wanted to sit down, but unfortunately there was only bare stone. It was smooth and fairly flat, but not exactly the most comfortable of settings. Especially while naked.

“I guess you’ve been thinking a little wider than I have.”

Delilah shrugged.

“You’ve had other things on your mind. And other distractions. But I’d hasten to have you note that this would also solve the immediate problem of your mother’s situation. If Erin moved here...”

Adam brightened up. Of course.

“That would get her out! And it’s not like we have to worry about assets or anything. I doubt my father would let her have anything anyway.”

Delilah nodded, looking eager herself.

“Yes, exactly! Although...”

And here Delilah’s face darkened a moment before she continued.

“ ... it might become a moot point. Given what may need to be done.”

Adam wasn’t entirely ready to confront that truth just yet. Not in light of what Delilah was proposing. He hesitated, more details occurring to him.

“Delilah, could we — and I guess I mean just you, afford this? What you’re proposing ... it’s kind of huge. And I can walk away from everything. And my Mom needs to ... and I guess Emily can. But what about Holly and Kendra?”

Delilah walked idly to the edge of the boulder, looking down at the drop — entirely at ease with the danger.
