“So, where are we?” asked Karina.

“We’re in the rear end of the Promenade,” answered Paul.

“Is that the same as the aft end?” asked Kyle.

“You tell us. You’re the orbital engineer,” replied Paul.

The three teens were going from one end of the ship to the other. Passengers were still arriving on Artisan Venture, and they were still in orbit around Lupina. It was all quite amazing to the kids. They knew they were going to take a cruise liner from Lupina to Goldheart, but knowing was not the same as knowing, and the ship was amazing to them.

There were several types of cruise liner in use around the galaxy, generally in the wealthier systems. There were systems cruisers, where a passenger ship went from planet to planet but never left the system. There were several like that in Lupina, with ships leaving Lupina Station and traveling to various tourist destinations around Lupina’s solar system. There were tours of industrial and farming habitats, vacation habitats, and views of Lupina’s gas giants and ringed outer planets.

Another type of cruise liner was the vacation cruise liner. Wealthy planets had wealthy citizens who could afford vacations to other systems. For instance, at an average cruise liner’s hyperspace velocity of nine light years a day, a cruise ship could travel from Lupina to the ABC mini-cluster in four days. The mini-cluster of Arugula, Belvedere, and Coronex, each of which was only four light years from each other could be visited one after the other, traveling overnight. These three planets were very Earthlike but had little industry and they had amazing scenery; the population was dedicated to supporting tourism. Then, after visiting the mini-cluster, the cruise ship would head back to Lupina after a roughly two-week vacation.

Goldheart was a different sort of destination. Goldheart was a massive industrial powerhouse, with three hydrogen-helium gas giants, each of which had two massive gas mines, water-ice ring systems, and a total of over forty moons, many of which had minable resources. Then there were two gigantic asteroid belts which had huge mining operations and five planets without atmospheres which could all be mined. All that mining fed into huge consumer and shipbuilding industries, along with many giant habitats, and factory farms to feed a system population as large as Lupina’s. There were almost no tourist destinations. Still, at least in a large galactic volume, all roads led to Goldheart, and it was a major hub for transshipping.

Many of the cruise liners traveling to Goldheart would disgorge passengers into a gigantic transshipping hotel terminal, where they would take different ships elsewhere. That was what would happen with Artisan Venture. The Sawbucks would leave the ship, and Kyle would move to the Kelleher Habitat. The rest of the family would visit the school and whatever tourist destinations there were. Finally, a different cruise liner, Journeyman Venture, would pass through the system and the Sawbucks would board her for another four-day trip back to Lupina.

Artisan Venture was a huge ship, at least to the teens’ eyes, though she was far smaller than many of the interstellar freighters that went through the system. Artisan Venture held over fifteen hundred passengers and carried another five hundred staff whose sole mission was to pamper the passengers. There were three pools, a formal dining room and three less formal buffets and eateries, nine bars and lounges, and a shopping area. There was even a theater.

The teens were sitting at a table in the Venture Lounge, a bar midships off the Promenade. All three were drinking Golden Hearth Lagers, even though Karina was too young to drink on the cruise liner. Her brothers, who were old enough, had bought beers for themselves and then slipped one to her before ordering a second. The staff knew what was going on but wouldn’t complain so long as nobody got drunk and rowdy. “So, what happens besides drinking, eating, and swimming?” asked Karina.

“Probably the same things that happen back home,” commented Paul, shrugging as he answered. “We might be required to wear something out in public, but I didn’t see anything in the guidebook about swimming.”

“You mean...”

“You want to go swimming? Grab a towel and a beach chair. Strip down and go swimming.”

Kyle added, “Naked people in a swimming pool? What do you think is going to happen?”

“Really? So I don’t have to rely on you two for orgasms? I’m looking for some fun on this trip!”

“Feeling the love, sis,” said Kyle.

She flipped him off, and then asked, “So you think we’ll be able to party with other people, you know, party?”

Both her brothers shrugged. Paul said, “Let’s just say I want to try and find out.” He tapped his macrolink and said, “Check out the Daily Schedule. Dinner is at 1900. There is a New Passenger Mixer scheduled for the Main Pool and Lounge area at 2030. I know what a mixer means back home.”

“But what does it mean here?” she pressed.

Paul smiled and shrugged before waving down a waitress. He finished his beer and ordered another, and then asked, “So, tell me about the mixers tonight.”

The pretty waitress smiled and said, “There are actually three of them, one around each of the pools, and they allow everybody a chance to meet and greet new friends on the cruise.”

“Yes, but are there any rules about meeting and greeting?”

‘Such as?” It was obvious the young woman was trying to not give a straight answer.

“Well, we noticed one of the pools was a kiddie pool and waterpark. Who typically attends that?”

“That would be mostly young married couples with young children. Usually a few parents and the lifeguards keep an eye on the kids while most of the parents have a few drinks and, uh, get to know one another.”

Kyle made a universally recognized gesture by making a circle with his left thumb and index finger, before inserting and withdrawing his right middle finger through the circle. The waitress noticed and smiled, nodding agreement. “So who attends the mixers at the other two pools?” he asked.

“Most of the guests will be around the Main Pool. The Solar Pool tends to get an older group. Perhaps a more exclusive group,” the waitress admitted.

Karina didn’t understand but Paul said, “Thank you.” The waitress nodded and left, to fill Kyle’s drink order. Paul looked at his sister and said, “The Solar Pool is adults only, no teens, and is probably restricted to the more expensive cabins.”

“Oh,” said Karina.

“We’ll get you laid around the Main Pool. Should be fun!”

“Hi guys! What’s up?”

The three teens turned to look who was talking to them and found their parents holding hands and approaching. Both were wearing wraps, though Korona had changed from the long wrap she had worn in Lupina to a much shorter wrap that she normally wore at home in Caradoc. Her amazing breasts were available for all to see. “Hi, Mom,” said Karina.

Jonathan sat down next to his daughter and took the beer in front of her. Karina looked like she was going to complain but he gave her a stern look, and she kept quiet. “Seen the entire ship?” he asked.

“Some of it anyway. Kyle and I are planning to check out every bar and lounge,” said Paul.

“Some might be adults or members only,” commented Jonathan.

“What is life without a goal?” The rest of the family groaned and rolled their eyes. “Kyle and I plan to share our results with Karina.”

“Excuse me?” said their incredulous mother.

“She’ll never learn easier or safer.” Kyle nodded.

Jonathan looked at his wife and shrugged. There wasn’t much they could do to stop the kids, at least without locking them in the cabin. “It’s your asses. We won’t bail you out, and I’m serious about that. You end up in the brig, we’re leaving you there.”

“There’s a big mixer around the pool tonight, after dinner,” said Karina.

“There’s a big mixer every night,” said Korona. “Tomorrow is Formal Night, and I have our outfits already planned. Then the night before we get to Goldheart is another informal night, like tonight.”

“One of the waitresses admitted to us that mixers here were a lot like mixers back home. There will be a lot of people getting to know one another,” said Paul.

“There’s other fun places on this ship, too,” Korona said. “Did you guys ever try sex on a grav plate after your loss in the Kamasutra competition?” She noticed the blank looks from her children. “There are several domes and spheres with zero-gee and padded walls if you want to try it.”

Karina asked, “Have you ever done it without gravity?”

Her mother shrugged and nodded. “Sure, before I ever moved from Goldheart to Lupina. Guys, there is nothing you’ve done that I didn’t do by the time I was your age.”

“What’s it like?” Karina asked excitedly.

Korona smiled. “It’s hard to describe. Go find out for yourselves.”

“Let’s go!” Karina popped up and dragged her brothers with her. They followed her as she used her macrolink to find a zero-gee sex area.

“So? What’s it like?” asked Jonathan.

“You’ve never done it before? I’m surprised.”

He shook his head. “Nope.”

“Don’t bother. It’s not worth it,” Korona answered. She shrugged when Jonathan gave her a curious look. “It’s sort of a slow-motion affair. You push in and I float away. Action and reaction, remember. You have to hold on to each other, no matter what, and forget handjobs or tit fucks.”

“Why?”

She giggled. “If your cum isn’t going inside somebody, where’s it going? Is it spraying around the room until it hits a wall or somebody else? Do you want it floating around where you might breathe it in?”

“Good lord!”

Korona laughed. “Besides, what’s my favorite way of having sex?” She leaned forward and answered her own question. “It’s with my legs spread wide and you on top, pounding your cock into my pussy or ass over and over and giving me huge orgasms! You always make me cum so hard that way!”

Jonathan grinned. “Want to find a quiet little spot and you can show me exactly what you like? Exactly!”

“Sounds good to me!” Korona stood up and took her husband’s hand. There seemed to be several little spots just off the Promenade for private trysts.

“Let’s go!”

The family met in the Venture Lounge at 1630. Artisan Venture was leaving Lupina at 1700, and while Jonathan wasn’t sure what would happen, he expected something to show on the ship-wide network. Afterward they could walk along the Promenade and look at the various shops, have a few drinks before dinner, and then head to the Dining Room. Everybody was interested in seeing what the First Night Meet-and-Greet Mixer would be like. Dinner was at 1900 and the mixer began at 2030, though exactly what would be involved in each wasn’t specified. The dress code for their first night was listed as casual, though just how casual was left unstated.

Everybody wore clean wraps for dinner. Jonathan and Korona had finished their afternoon with a very refreshing joint shower and anal session. Then the teens returned from the zero-gee sphere they had visited. Zero gravity sex was highly overrated they all thought. It was a lot slower and needed a lot more holding onto each other than they had originally expected. On the plus side, they weren’t the only people in the sphere, and everybody tended to join together in a big sexual swarm. They cleaned up and napped before dressing and heading down to the bar.

They were sitting at a large table sipping their drinks (whiskey sour for Jonathan, rum sour for Korona, and beers for the twins; Karina was restricted to a soda) when a large screen at the end of the lounge changed from an orbital view of Lupina. It switched to a view of the Lupina Cruise Port, then it switched a second time, to show a smiling middle-aged man in a uniform shirt taking up the lower right-hand corner of the screen. “Welcome! I am Captain Steven Overhanger, and I would like to welcome you all to Artisan Venture, the newest member of the Venture Cruise Lines fleet. All our guests have boarded Artisan Venture and we have received final clearance from Lupina Cruise Port Control. We will be departing in just a few minutes and heading out on our next adventure. Over the next few days, we will begin slowly adjusting the ship’s temperature, gravity, and atmospheric pressure to match that of Goldheart, our next port of call. By the time we arrive everybody will be fully acclimated to Goldheart, which uses Old Earth gravity and time. We won’t change the time until we dock at Goldheart Transshipment Terminal. Until then, we have three-and-a-half days of fun planned for you, starting with a delicious dinner in just a few hours. So until then, join me in saying farewell to Lupina. Three-two-one-Launch!”

The view on the larger screen didn’t change, but after a minute, a minor change could be seen. It looked like they were moving away from the dock they had been connected to. Captain Overhang’s image faded out and after a few minutes more, it was obvious they were leaving the Lupina Cruise Port.

“That’s it?” asked Paul; their departure was decidedly anticlimactic.

Jonathan shrugged. “Not exciting enough for you? Let me tell you something. If I am flying around in a spaceship, maybe I don’t want anything exciting to happen. I am looking forward to a nice boring trip that ends up in a nice boring dock in Goldheart.”

“Very boring, Dad!” said Karina.

Her mother laughed and took her husband’s hand. “So boring!”

Jonathan just rolled his eyes. “Order me another drink,” he said.

Korona laughed and waved to the waitress.

Dinner was in the Main Dining Room, a two-deck restaurant with an open atrium between the decks. The Sawbucks were on the lower deck, and despite the informality of the first night, the dinner was very impressive. There were half a dozen appetizers, ten entrée choices, and four different desserts. All the items were from typical menus found on planets Artisan Venture visited. While about half the guests traveling to Goldheart were from Lupina, the remainder were traveling to Goldheart to connect with other cruise liners going elsewhere.

“How do they change to Goldheart standards?” asked Karina.

“Ask the orbital engineer,” said Jonathan, nodding towards Kyle.

Kyle shrugged. “Lupina gravity is eighty-seven percent of Old Earth gravity, which is Goldheart gravity. Over the next four days, they need to raise it slowly by about three percent a day. You just have to dial it into the grav plate controls. The same goes for temperature. Lupina standard temperature is twenty-six degrees. Goldheart’s is twenty-two degrees. They’ll need to drop the temperature a degree a day. I don’t know what the atmospheric pressure difference is, but that will be handled the same way.”

“Huh.”

Dinner went well until their server brought out their appetizers. Jonathan got the beef carpaccio, Korona got a shrimp cocktail, and the twins both got escargots. The problem was when Karina’s appetizer was served. “What is this?” she asked.

“Crispy Goldheart ramen shrimp,” said their server.

“I thought I ordered a crispy shrimp cocktail,” she said.

Both her parents shook their heads, and the server offered to take it back for something else. Korona said, “Try it. You’ll probably like it. Otherwise I’ll switch with you.” She thanked the server and sent her away. “Try it.”

Karina looked around the table and realized nobody was siding with her. “I really asked for this and not a shrimp cocktail?”

Her father smiled and asked, “You want us to comm her and have her play back your order?”

Karina blushed and said, “I’ll try it.” She looked at her place setting and gave a confused look. It was a standard place setting for the fancy restaurant, with three different forks, three different spoons, two different knives, and a pair of chopsticks. “Uh, how?”
