A day later, at the start of the school week, there was a knock at the door. Ashley answered as Trisha had gone to the washroom. When she opened it, she found Justin there, his head hanging low.
“What do you want?” Ashley sniped; her voice crackled with discontent.
“Is Trisha home? I want to apologize to her,” he replied.
“No, she’s out. A little late for that, don’t you think?”
“I needed the rest of the weekend to get my head straight on how I acted. I just, I’d just like to say I’m sorry to her..., and to you.”
“What would have happened if I hadn’t been there, huh? Think you could say you’re sorry for that?”
“I know, I know. What I did was wrong. Please, just tell Trish...”
“Justin? What are you doing here?” Trish’s surprised voice came from the hallway.
“I wanted to say I’m sorry. Look, I know you won’t trust me again, but I’d like us to be friends. I’m really sorry for what I did, and I’m happy Ashley was there to stop me. I won’t bother either of you again,” Justin said as he turned and headed for his room.
“Justin, wait. Ash, can you give us a minute?” Trish then took Justin down the hall away from where Ashley could hear. When she finally returned, Ashley wanted to know what they had talked about.
“He just wants to be friends now, you know? Water under the bridge,” Trisha said once they had returned to their room.
“Water under the...” Ashley started to get angry. “Trish, he tried to assault you.”
“He had too much to drink that night. It won’t happen again. We’re just going to be friends anyway, don’t worry.”
“Of course I worry. Why wouldn’t I?” Ashley stroked Trisha’s face, and her hand tucked a strand of curly black hair behind her ear.
“I know, I’ll be careful. Thank you for caring about me, Ash.” Trisha then leaned in and kissed her roommate on the cheek. “Now, don’t you have a class to get to?”
“You’re right,” Ashley replied as she grabbed her backpack. “But if I hear you misbehaved while I’m gone, I’ll give you such a tongue lashing.”
Trisha grinned and put her fingers to her mouth, “Is that a threat or a promise?”
“Both! See you later.” Ashley gave Trisha a peck on the lips before heading out the door. Part of her was worried about her friend, but there wasn’t much she could do. Ashley knew she couldn’t tell her what to do. That would be the same thing her parents had done to her. No, Trisha needed to make her own decisions and live with them. Ashley just hoped they wouldn’t hurt either of them.
As the weather cooled and the trees turned, assignments, papers, and projects occupied a large portion of Ashley’s and Trisha’s time. That didn’t mean they didn’t hook up whenever they had a free moment, but it left them fewer free moments for fun. Some weekends, though, Trisha would hang out with Justin and his friends, which irked Ashley to no end. She couldn’t understand why her friend would hang out with such a creep.
Ashley enjoyed her time with Trisha. The two had become very close, but she missed seeing Rick and Scott. She hadn’t been able to head down to the studio in over a month to visit. She was still doing paperwork and organizing their photoshoots, but it was part-time, like in high school. The guys were understanding, as always, and the three of them were in touch often via email and text messages. But Ashley yearned for more; something she couldn’t quite get from Trisha, no matter how much they fooled around.
There was also the matter of Nikki, whom Ashley ‘owed’ some attention. The two of them hadn’t been able to plan anything due to their busy school schedules. Ashley needed to find a way to bring them all together once more, and as October neared its end, an idea formed in her twisted little head. Nothing was more fun than a Halloween party.
Ashley reached out to Rick and Scott, who were delighted to see Ashley again, and then she messaged Nikki. Since Halloween fell on a Friday, Nikki was free for the evening and excited to join the festivities again. This was exciting as they all agreed to dress up in costumes, and Ashley couldn’t wait to find something to wear. Nikki brought Ashley down to earth with a simple question: ‘ Would Trisha come, too?’
In truth, Ashley hadn’t thought about it. While she wanted Trisha to meet Rick, Scott, and Nikki, she was scared about what might happen. The reality was that while Trisha had accepted all the things Ashley had done before they got together, there was a taboo on talking about anything current. They weren’t dating. At least Ashley didn’t seem to think so, but they weren’t just messing around either. Ashley did care for her. She knew that, but Trisha also knew that Ashley was interested in guys. Maybe Trisha would like to come since she hasn’t had the best experience with guys. Ashley knew Rick and Scott well enough to know they would make it a pleasurable experience for Trisha, but that would only be if Ashley had the guts to tell her. Knowing she had no choice, Ashley waited until Trisha came home from class one evening.
“Hey, how was your day?” Trisha asked as she came through the door.
“Good, how was yours?” Ashley asked as she got up and kissed her roommate hello. The two embraced quickly before Trisha pulled her backpack off and tossed it in the corner of the room.
“As always, more assigned readings. I swear, I didn’t think I signed up for a book club.”
“I know, it’s crazy. So...” Ashley trailed off, “ ... there’s a get-together at the studio for Halloween. I haven’t seen the guys in a while and...”
“ ... and you want to go.” The smile faded from Trisha’s face. She knew she’d have to deal with this at some point, but had hoped they could avoid it for a bit longer.
“Yes, I just ... I’d like to see them, and Nikki’s coming, too. Actually, I was wondering if you’d like to come. I’d love for you to meet everyone, especially Nikki.”
“How many people would be at this party?” Trisha asked, although she suspected the answer.
“Four of us, although with you it’d be five.”
“I don’t think so, Ash. It’d just be too weird.” Trisha kicked off her shoes; her feet suddenly hurt.
“You wouldn’t have to do anything if you didn’t want to.”
“I know, but you would. I don’t know how I’d feel watching you get ... taken by two men and be with another woman. Like, I get it. We aren’t dating. I don’t know what we are, come to think about it. I don’t think I have the stomach to watch you do that.”
“Trish, I don’t mean to upset you. If you don’t want me to go, I won’t.”
“What would I be if I stopped you? Just go and have fun, just ... don’t tell me about it, ok?”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to upset you.” Ashley looked a little worried as she saw the saddened expression on her friend’s face.
“Yeah, it’s ok. Why don’t you have Nikki swing by before heading to the studio? That way I can meet her.”
“Ok, that sounds nice. What will you do on Halloween, though?” Ashley asked as she hugged her friend from behind. She could feel the swell of Trisha’s breasts underneath her forearms. She hoped this would comfort her a little bit.
“I don’t know, maybe just some reading. Never was big on Halloween anyway.”
It was late in the afternoon of Halloween when Ashley got a text from Nikki that she was almost on campus. Ashley was still in the middle of changing into her costume, with some help from Trisha. Ashley decided to dress up like a sixties era Go-Go dancer, with a vibrant short polka dot dress, hair band, and high heels. Ashley had her hair pulled back into a long ponytail. Finding a dress that worked was a lot of work, but she got lucky at a used costume shop specializing in clothing for drama productions.
Ashley’s phone buzzed again with the message, ‘I’m here.’ Ashley ran down the stairs as fast as she could in those heels to meet her friend. The hallway buzzed with people wandering about in all manner of costumes, from the simple ‘guy dressed like someone from a TV show’, to girls dressed in all kinds of elaborate sexy outfits. It was always a sight to behold how far girls with a limited budget could go to wear as little clothing as possible, but Ashley was no different.
When Ashley got to the street, she ran towards what looked like a sexy fox. The petite redhead Nikki wore little red ears, a revealing red outfit, and a bushy red tail taped to her tiny butt. After an initial squeal and hug, both girls headed upstairs to Ashley’s room.
Trisha stood up when Ashley entered with the diminutive Nikki, her bright red hair a standout feature. The rest of Nikki’s body was petite, with barely any breasts or curves to speak of. Nikki also couldn’t help but examine her friend’s roommate. Despite Trisha’s basic jeans and school sweatshirt, Nikki could see the pronounced swell of Trisha’s breasts and the wide hips she had. Nikki couldn’t help but feel a little jealous of the black-haired girl.
“Nikki, this is Trisha. Trisha, this is Nikki,” Ashley said, as she tried to break the ice. They both said hello, although Trisha felt quite nervous. This was someone who meant a great deal to Ashley, and she didn’t want to give off the wrong impression or embarrass herself.
“You look really ... nice,” Trisha mumbled; her hands shook from nervousness. Ashley could see it and held her hand to calm her down. Nikki couldn’t help but observe that little gesture, noting it for later.
“Thanks. Are you sure you don’t want to come tonight? I’m sure you’ll love Rick and Scott.” Nikki tried to say it nicely, but thought it may have seemed rude.
“I’m ok, I’m not good with too much excitement. Plus, I’d only get in the way of whatever all of you will get up to tonight.”
Ashley tried one last time to convince Trisha to join them, “Are you sure you won’t come?”
“I’m sure. Why don’t you two head out? Trust me, I’ll be fine here. It was nice meeting you, Nikki.”
Admitting defeat, Ashley kissed Trisha goodbye before picking up her backpack with a change of clothes and leaving. Ashley and Nikki headed towards the stairs when Ashley spotted Justin heading towards them. There was too much ground to cover to avoid conversation, so Ashley prepared herself to deal with him.
“Hey 237. Wow, looking good. Who’s your foxy friend?” Justin said. His lazy costume consisted of a yellow trucker hat and a flannel shirt.
“Hello, Justin. This is my friend from high school, Nikki. We’re on our way to a party, so if you’ll excuse us,” Ashley said. Ashley tried to walk towards the stairwell, but a group of people suddenly flooded out.
“A party? Where is it? Can I come?” he smiled his flawless white smile.
“It’s a private party, sorry.” Ashley once again tried to move on.
“Where’s Trish? Don’t tell me she wasn’t invited either. I rarely see you two apart anymore.”
“Yeah, it’s almost like she needs protection,” Ashley sneered, but continued, “She was invited, but she had an assignment due on Monday and needed to work on it. Anyway, gotta go. Bye.” Ashley grabbed Nikki by the hand, and they were down the stairwell and away from Justin as quickly as Ashley’s shoes could carry her.
“Why are we running away from that guy? He looked cute,” Nikki said as they got into an Uber.
“Yeah right. Remember the slime I told you about who tried to assault Trisha? That’s him.”
“Want me to cut his balls off then?”
“I like the passion, but no ... not yet,” Ashley replied before they both started laughing. Ashley looked at the driver’s face in the mirror. He was no longer checking them out as he drove, which made Ashley laugh even harder. Soon, they pulled up to the studio. They both got out and headed inside.
As the girls entered the studio, they found it darkened with only a few flickering lights sporadically placed around. Ashley felt around the wall for the light switch but found it taped over. Ominous noises suddenly filled the room and echoed around the large, adapted warehouse space. The eerie creak of rusty doors, the frantic cry of a cat, followed by the shattering of glass somewhere off in the distance. The sounds switched to shuffling footsteps, which seemed to surround them and trap them in place. Then, from the depths of the darkness, a pair of furry paws with sharp claws grabbed Nikki from behind, causing her to shriek.
The lights suddenly flicked on, “Surprise!” both Scott and Rick yelled. Scott stood in the center of the room wearing a dark cloak and holding a plastic scythe. Rick held on to Nikki, his hairy paws part of a werewolf costume. He pulled her in close for a hug.
“Got ya, Nikki!” Rick said with a laugh as he wrapped his hairy paws around her waist. Nikki leaned back into him, clearly enjoying their ruse.
“I missed you guys,” Nikki replied, looking around the decorated studio space. “You both really went all out, didn’t you?”
“Of course, it isn’t every day we get to host our two favorite girls,” said Scott as Ashley ran up and wrapped her arms around him. The studio was decorated with all manner of Halloween décor: thick spider webs, carved pumpkins, hay bales, and other Halloween paraphernalia. The kitchen table had a variety of themed treats like candied eyeballs, jellied brains, and a boiling cauldron that smelled like pumpkin spice.
“It’s too bad Trisha couldn’t come. We were really hoping to meet her,” Scott said after kissing Ashley hello.
“Yeah, I tried. She just ... doesn’t do well meeting new people,” replied Ashley, unsure how to explain the situation.
Nikki, though, had some thoughts. “I noticed that she might have needed you to hold her hand all evening, Ash.”
“What do you mean?”
“I saw how she was with you, like a lost puppy. I think you’ve slept with that girl a few too many times, Ash. I think she might be falling for yo or is becoming dependent.”
“She’s just figuring things out, she just...” Ashley was saying but was interrupted by Rick. “Wait, hold on Ash. You’re sleeping with your roommate, Trisha?”
