“Hiro, what’s going on?” Cass asked. In her head she thought this would be his confession about how the resort had been clothing optional, but then another thought occurred to her. “Hold on. Is Karmi pregnant?!” she said excitedly then stopped herself. “No, wait. You know we wouldn’t be upset if she was. The only thing I can think of that might make me upset would be you flunking out of SFIT, but I know that’s not the case.”
Diego, however, saw how nervous his daughter was sitting there, more than he imagined she’d be if it was just the white lie about where they had gone. and an idea began to form in his mind. “Hiro ... have you and Megan-” he began to ask.
“Yes,” Hiro admitted. “We’re lovers. Have been since Christmas.”
“Wha-?” Cass said, stunned. This was definitely not the confession she was expecting. “But ... what about Karmi?” she added, looking at the other girl.
Karmi couldn’t help but blush slightly. “Don’t worry, Miss Cass. Hiro and I are still very much in love,” she said, trying to reassure her.
“Everything between me and Karmi is good,” Hiro quickly added. “Actually, it’s more than good. We love each other and there’s no cheating going on. I simply have more than one girlfriend.”
“Megan, is this true?” Diego asked. His face was flat and unreadable, which was disconcerting, but at least he didn’t seem to be about to lose it.
“Yes, Dad. I am one of Hiro’s multiple girlfriends.”
“Multiple? How many does he have?”
“As of the end of our vacation, four.”
“Four?!” Cass gasped. She took quite a long moment before speaking again. “H-how does that even work? And you’re all okay with that? Who are the others?”
“Yes, we’re okay with it,” Karmi said. “Megan and I had a long heart-to-heart before I agreed to let her be with Hiro, and the same thing kind of happened with Honey Lemon and GoGo. We all love him and he loves each of us.”
“We’ve started calling ourselves Hiro’s Harem,” Megan added with a bit of a smirk.
“Hiro’s Ha-” Cass began, but just couldn’t finish the words.
“Aren’t those two a little old to be with you?” Diego asked, doing his best to stay calm and rational. “If what you’re telling us is true, then technically I could have them arrested for statutory rape.”
“I suppose you could,” Hiro admitted, “but none of us would ever forgive you if you tried. There are plenty of times police don’t bother to arrest people for breaking the law, right? How often do you ticket people for going five over the limit?”
“Never, but that’s because that’s such a minor infraction that it’s not worth pursuing. Doing so would cause more harm than good.”
“Well, Honey Lemon and GoGo sleeping with Hiro is also a ‘minor’ infraction,” Megan joked. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Hiro and Karmi couldn’t hold back from smiling at the joke. Even Diego had to fight to stop his lip from curling up, and he was still only half successful.
“What harm is there in me being with them?” Hiro asked rhetorically. “They’re not taking advantage of me and everything is fully consensual.”
“But having s- ... sleeping with a bunch of different people isn’t normal,” Cass said, still rather bewildered.
“Isn’t it?” Hiro said. “How many studies are out there that show that many college students have half a dozen or even more partners before they graduate?”
“I suppose, but that’s not at the same time!”
“True,” Hiro admitted. “But it’s much more fun this way,” he said with a small smirk, “and is actually a lot more common than you might think. We never wanted to lie to you about our relationship, but we also were worried that you wouldn’t approve and try to make us stop.”
“So what changed?” Diego asked. “Why confess now?”
“What changed is the addition of Honey Lemon and GoGo. I just can’t give all four girls the love and attention they deserve while also keeping it a secret. If I want to go on a date with one of them, or both of them, what would be my excuse to you, since you know I’m already dating Karmi?”
“So if you could have kept it a secret, you would have?”
Hiro shook his head. “No. We would have told you eventually. Sooner rather than later, I’d like to think. Like I said, we never wanted to lie to you but we were worried that you wouldn’t approve and would try to make us stop.”
“You wouldn’t have been able to, by the way,” Megan added. Her tone was slightly playful but it was also clear that she was completely serious.
Diego let out a sigh. “I won’t say that I’m comfortable with this. If it had been a regular romance between Hiro and Megan, then I’d be more than happy. But ... polygamy? And you’re telling us that this has been going on since Christmas?” he asked, to which the three teens nodded. “And that you’re okay with your boyfriend sleeping with other people? Don’t you get jealous when he’s with another girl?”
“It’s hard to be jealous when you’re doing the same thing,” Megan answered with a grin.
“Wh-what does that mean?” Cass said, becoming even more overwhelmed.
“It means,” Karmi said, “the girls in our group don’t just share Hiro. We share each other, too.”
That made both adults blush. “Megan ... you’re...” Diego stuttered.
“I’m bi, Dad. Or, at least bi enough to sleep with certain specific girls. At this point I’ve had sex with four different people, and only one of them is a guy.”
Diego sat quietly for a minute, thinking about what he was told, while also trying to not think too hard about how his teenage daughter was now sexually active. Highly sexually active, by the sound of things. “There’s really no chance of you changing your mind?” he asked eventually.
Megan shook her head. “Nope. And if you tried to make us stop, we’d just get emancipated and move in with Honey Lemon and GoGo.”
Hiro arched an eyebrow at that. That wasn’t an idea that was ever brought up before. He didn’t like the idea of putting an ultimatum on his aunt or Diego like that, but if push came to shove, doing as Megan suggested might be the only path forward for them to all stay together.
Diego held up a hand. “There’s no need to threaten. All I’ve ever wanted was for you to be happy, Sweetheart. If being with Hiro ... and Karmi ... and others, apparently, truly makes you happy ... then as your father, it is my duty to try and support that. Much as it boggles the mind.”
Megan gave a scream of happiness and leapt into her father’s arms. “Thank you, Dad! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
“Aunt Cass?” Hiro said. “What are your thoughts?”
“I, um...” she hesitated. “This is a lot to take in.”
“I know and I’m sorry for dumping it all on you like this. But if nothing else, know that all of us are okay with this arrangement, strange as it may seem.”
Cass did her best to truly think about all that Hiro had revealed. “Are you really happy?” she asked after some time.
“Yeah, I am. Though I’ll admit I’m a little terrified too,” he added with a bit of a grin. “I mean, how in the world am I ever going to afford birthday and Christmas gifts? Not to mention Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, and who knows how many other special events. I’m going to need a manager just to help me keep track of things and schedule time for each of them.”
That earned a little smile and chuckle from Cass. “That’s what you get for biting off more than you can chew,” she said. “But I suppose if you ever get completely overwhelmed in the pursuit of making those you love happy, I could maybe lend you my organizational expertise.”
“I’d appreciate that,” Hiro said, meaning it.
“Though in payment, I’m expecting a boatload of grandkids,” she said, trying to tease him.
The mention of children made all the teens blush heavily. “Whoa, slow down there, Aunt Cass!” Hiro said. “Don’t you think it’s a little early to be talking about kids?”
“If you’re old enough to have sex, you’re old enough to become parents,” she countered.
“Our baby factories are closed for the time being,” Megan pointed out, though her own blush continued. “I want to at least graduate high school before thinking about starting a family.”
“That’s fine. But it’s a question you’re going to have to deal with sooner or later,” Cass pointed out. “And with four of you being girls, that’s surely going to come with a whole host of complications that aren’t with a regular relationship.”
“We know, and we promise we’ll talk about it,” Karmi said. “But not yet.”
Hiro hesitated for a moment before adding. “So, now that you know about us, what do you think of the idea of Karmi and Megan moving into my room, permanently?”
“Slow down there, young man. We haven’t even said yes to Karmi moving in. What makes you think we’ll say yes to Karmi AND Megan?”
Hiro shrugged. “With how often Karmi stays over, she practically lives here already, and Megan literally does. It’d be such a minor change for her that you’d barely notice. Plus, I figured it’d be better to ask for just that rather than asking if Honey Lemon and GoGo could move in as well.”
“Definitely no to that one!” Cass said, managing a heartfelt laugh. “Even if I might be okay with you being in a relationship with those girls, and I’m still not sure if I am, the vast majority of the world would still consider it a crime. Best not to flaunt it until you are old enough for them not to be arrested for being with you. Although, I suppose this whole harem situation probably answers one question Diego and I had about your trip,” she added. When the others all looked at her questioningly, she continued. “You took advantage of the clothing optional side of the resort, didn’t you?”
The three teens blushed all over again. “You knew about that?” Hiro asked, surprised.
“And you didn’t immediately ground us for life after we got back?” Megan added.
“Why didn’t you say anything earlier?” Karmi asked.
“We wanted to see if you’d come clean on your own,” Diego answered.
Cass nodded. “And we learned of the whole clothing optional thing only after it was too late to do anything about it. A couple of days into your trip, I got curious as to what the resort had to offer so I did a bit of research. Needless to say I was quite shocked to discover what Megan so clearly chose to leave out of her little presentation.”
Megan’s blush deepened at the accusation.
“Your father was rather upset as well,” Cass continued, “though I managed to soothe his anger before you got back.”
“Really? How?” Megan asked. Now it was Diego’s turn to blush. “Ah! So if Dad’s angry, you just have to have lots of sex with him then he won’t be angry anymore.” It took a moment for her to notice that everyone was staring at her in wide eyed surprise, then it hit that her words could be taken another way and her cheeks instantly became hot in embarrassment. “I don’t mean...! I just meant ... in general ... I mean for Cass! Not for me to-!”
“Please stop, Sweetheart,” Diego said, holding up one hand while covering his face with the other. “You’re only making it worse.”
“Sorry, Dad. It was supposed to just be a joke! I mean, sure, you’re kind of hot as far as dads go but-” Diego loudly cleared his throat. “Right. I’m just going to stop talking now,” Megan said, then quietly stared at her hands in her lap, feeling extremely embarrassed.
Sensing an opportunity for a little payback for all the teasing he had to endure in the earlier part of their relationship, Hiro leaned in and quietly whispered a single word into Megan’s ear. “DILF.”
Somehow, Megan’s cheeks grew even redder.
The five of them ended up talking for several more hours, the adults ultimately deciding to not punish anyone for the deception regarding the resort, and allowing the three teens to move in together, though they were asked to not be too liberal with their affections where the adults could see. While revealing their unique relationship to the adults was a major milestone and a great weight off his chest, what really had Hiro’s focus and attention the following week was the T Project. Any day now, he was expecting the call from Liv that Trina’s clone was ready for the brain transfer, and he was spending every spare moment he had going over his transferal program to ensure that it was as flawless a process as possible. He’d run hundreds of simulations using junk data and a virtual clone in the simulator, so he was as confident as he could be that every variable was accounted for.
There were two main areas of concern when it came to the downloading of Trina’s mind into the new body. First and foremost was how her brain was shutting down. They’d likely only have one chance to do the transfer before her memories were unrecoverable. Secondly was what to do with the parts of her neural net that were already, for lack of a better word, dead. Because of the accelerated growth and the fact that the clone had been unconscious for its entire existence it hadn’t developed any neural pathways of its own yet, so it would have essentially no ability to walk or talk. In theory, they could teach Trina these things over time but to do so in the traditional way would take months, if not years.
Instead, the plan they had come up with was to copy just those specific parts from someone else’s brain. If done correctly, Trina would in theory be able to walk and talk right away, but there was the potential that some skills, habits, or interests of whoever provided the brain scan would be copied as well. Hiro felt a surge of love when Karmi immediately volunteered to be the ‘donor’.
“Are you sure?” he asked when she told him of her decision. “I know the risks for you are non-existent but are you really okay with a copy of your brain, or part of it, existing inside someone else?”
“Yes,” she said firmly. “I never met her, but you obviously care a great deal for Trina. If you’re going to be this serious in trying to help her, then I want to do everything in my power to help as well.”
“Thank you,” Hiro said, kissing her cheek. “You know, I would have volunteered myself, but...”
“But male brain,” Karmi finished, poking him in the forehead. “If Obake did use his brain as a template for Trina, it only worked because her brain was purely digital. Now that she’s getting an organic one, it won’t work the same way. You can do a lot of things, Hiro Hamada, but you can’t do everything. You just don’t have the required biology for this task.”
“That’s why I have you,” Hiro teased. “To fill in the holes that I can’t.”
“Oh, I don’t know. You do a pretty fine job of filling my holes,” she said, making Hiro blush. “And Megan’s. And Honey Lemon’s. And GoGo’s.” Each girl she listed off made Hiro blush just a little more.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever understand why you let me have more than one girlfriend,” Hiro told her, pulling her in for a loving embrace. “But I will be forever grateful.”
The call came on a Friday afternoon. “We’re ready,” Liv told Hiro over the phone. “Trina’s body is at the ideal stage of development and we’ve deactivated her accelerated growth. Now, technically you don’t have to do the brain transfer right away but the sooner that body has its own consciousness and can be taken off life support, the better.”
