Chapter 12

Fan Fiction Sex Story: Chapter 12 - Hiro may be the youngest person to ever attend SFIT, but that doesn’t mean he’s too young to handle the various challenges that come with college life, including love. But what will he do when that particular challenge comes from several different sources at the same time? (Updated twice a month)

“YES!” Hiro shouted. He and Karmi leapt for joy before giving each other a huge hug. Finally! Finally he had taken a huge step forward with Trina. He was actually looking at her brain, not just a neural net or an operating system, but a fully formed human brain, or the digital equivalent of one, anyway.

“This is amazing,” Karmi commented, marvelling at the image. “However he managed to do it, Obake seems to have successfully emulated a human brain. Everything is there, the cerebrum, cerebellum, and even the brainstem.”

“I knew you were an expert on microbiology. I didn’t know you were a brain expert as well,” Hiro said.

“I’m not, but we had to study human biology as part of my program. The brain is an incredibly fascinating and complex organ and while we’ve learned a lot about how it works, it’s still full of mystery. I have to wonder if Obake made a scan of his own brain to use as a template for Trina. I can’t see anyone actually coding something like this from scratch.”

“That would actually make a lot of sense,” Hiro said. “If her brain was modelled off of his, that would explain her willingness to wipe out humans to make way for what she thought was Obake’s utopia.”

“Are there other types of displays this program can show us? This is showing us an MRI, but what about an EEG? And is this showing us just a snapshot, or is it being updated in real time?”

“Real time, I think. I’ve never used this program before. But why?”

“If we can have a real time EEG, then we can see if Trina’s brain is active.”

“Like, as if she’s actually conscious?”

“Yeah. Kind of like a living brain in a jar. No body, just thought.”

Hiro tinkered with the program for a moment and found what Karmi was asking for. He switched displays and various parts of the brain were coloured with all different shades of the rainbow.

“Perfect!” Karmi said. “Now let me see if I can figure out what all this means.” Hiro stepped aside and let Karmi take over. She pulled up a user manual and found a legend explaining the various colours. “Okay,” she said after about ten minutes of study, “I think I’ve got this.

“This part is the brainstem,” she explained, pointing to the appropriate area. “It controls automatic things like breathing and heart rate. It’s dark right now because it’s pretty much devoid of activity. Normally that would mean the person is dead, but because Trina’s body is destroyed, it kind of makes sense to have no activity there. I wonder, as a robot did she even have a heart, or lungs? Would there have been any activity in this part of the brain to begin with?”

“I don’t think she’d pass a medical exam, but her skin was warm to the touch, so maybe not a real heart, but perhaps some robotic equivalent to make her seem more lifelike?”

“Hmm, maybe. Then there’s the cerebellum,” she added, pointing to another dark part in the back of the brain. “That controls muscle movement and balance and stuff. Again, with no body to control, there’s no activity there. I really hope those parts still function once she has a new body, otherwise even with a new body she’d be nothing but a vegetable.”

“What about the rest of it then? The areas with all the shifting colours?” Hiro asked.

“That’s the cerebrum. It’s got two halves and four lobes in each half.” On a second screen she pulled up an image of a brain that had all the parts labeled to help jog her memory of what each part did. “That little dark spot there is the occipital lobe. It processes visual information. With no eyes, there’s nothing for her to process. That spot over there is the parietal lobe,” she said, pointing to another section. “It deals with touch, temperature, and pain. There’s not much for that to be doing right now either. The good news with that one is that we can assume she’s not feeling any pain, phantom or otherwise. But the rest of it is interesting.” She zoomed in to the front part of the brain, where the colours were clustered around. “That part is the frontal lobe, where the thinking and planning is done, and judging by all the colours, it is very active. I think it’s safe to say that Trina is at the very least experiencing an android’s version of dreaming. It’s impossible to tell if she’s actually conscious though. And this other spot is the temporal lobe. It deals with hearing and memory. I’m guessing the dim parts are the areas that handle hearing while the active parts are her memory.”

“I guess the question is, what are we going to do next? Figure out a way to actually interface with this, I guess, but where to begin?”

The two spent the next half hour brainstorming ideas on what to build that would allow them to communicate with Trina. They wondered if they should just shut off the power to Trina’s cube because If she was indeed conscious then she’d be feeling pretty strange right about now, like sensory deprivation in the most extreme way possible. And with no way to communicate with her, there was no way to let her know that she wasn’t alone and that they were working hard on a way to fix her.

Karmi kept checking Trina’s brain activity periodically, just to see if something changed. On her third such check she noticed something that sent her into a panic and before Hiro even noticed what she was doing, she had yanked the power cord from the machine, shutting everything down.

“Hey! Why’d you do that?” Hiro demanded, both shocked and worried. “What if yanking the power like that does some kind of damage to her?”

“I’m sorry, but it was a chance I had to take,” Karmi said grimly. “I think ... I think Trina is dying.”

Now Hiro was really worried. “Explain.”

“Let me show you.” Karmi rebooted the brain-scanning machine, making sure Trina’s cube was no longer connected to any power source, and brought up the scans they had made. She rewound the feed to the beginning, took a screenshot, then went back to just before she pulled the plug and took another. “I didn’t notice it at first because the changes were so gradual, but look at these two snapshots,” she said, and alternated between them. The differences were indeed minor, but the earlier screenshot showed more vibrant colours and the later one had a couple of small dark spots that weren’t there before.

“I see it now,” Hiro said. “But what does it mean?”

“I think it means that without any feedback from her body, Trina’s brain is acting like a normal human one and is shutting down because that’s exactly what a living brain would do given the situation.”

“No!” Hiro said, falling to his knees. The exuberance he had felt at getting this far was replaced by dread. “It can’t be! Not when we’re so close!”

Karmi hugged him from behind, trying to comfort him. “I’m afraid we might be in a Catch-22 situation here. If Trina’s brain is powered on but she has no body to connect to, then it will continue to degrade, but if her brain isn’t powered on then we’ll have no way to test any kind of body we make for her. And at the rate of decay that we see here, she has maybe a day of activity left before things shut down completely.”

Hiro pounded his fist into the floor. “Damn it!” he swore. He punched the floor a few more times in frustration before he could regain his self-control. He then shook his head and wiped away the few tears that had formed. “No, I refuse to accept this,” he said, his voice filled with steely determination. “I refuse to accept that the only choices are to let Trina fade away or to leave her trapped in limbo for eternity.” Perhaps it was the sheer desperation in their current situation, but Hiro’s thoughts strayed to areas he hadn’t really considered before. He had been so focused on rebuilding Trina that he hadn’t put any thought into other options. One such option now sparked a new hope in his mind. “Karmi, would you say that Trina’s digital brain is a one-to-one recreation of an actual human brain?”

“I can’t say for certain, but it looks that way to me. Why?”

“Maybe I’m just grasping at straws, but I can think of one way to save Trina.”

“You need what?” Liv Amara said, raising an eyebrow. The sharply dressed blonde CEO of Sycorax sat comfortably on a large lounge chair in her office with Hiro and Karmi sitting in their own chairs across from her.

“I need to know how you created Diane,” Hiro repeated. It was hard not to be cold towards this woman as he still found it hard not to see Liv’s psychopathic clone whenever he looked at her. There were a lot of bad memories associated with Diane and it made both him and Karmi feel a little uncomfortable around her even though she had been nothing but kind to them ever since she woke up from stasis. “I understand the basics on how cloning works, but that’s just duplicating a body. She knew everything you knew, right? DNA doesn’t include a person’s memories, so how did you manage to give her yours?”

Liv gave a little frown. “That’s highly restricted information,” she said. “I will forever be in your debt for how the two of you saved my life but I can’t just go giving out company secrets.”

“Then let me rephrase the request. Can you do it again? Can you make a clone and transfer someone’s mind into it?”

Liv looked back and forth between Hiro and Karmi. “Judging by the seriousness of your faces, I’m guessing this is more than just academic curiosity.”

Karmi nodded. “Someone we know is dying. We’ve tried everything we could on our own and have reached an impasse. You, however, might be able to help her.”

“By what, giving her a new cloned body? In theory it could be done, but if she’s already dying then I doubt we’d have the time to grow her a new body before her current one expires. Unless she’d be willing to go into suspended animation like I did.”

“That part won’t be an issue,” Hiro said. “So ... are you willing to help us?”

“To do what you are asking is going to cost a lot of money. Possibly millions.” Liv held up a hand to forestall Hiro’s complaints. “But like I said, I owe you. I’m more than happy to eat the costs of this if it means helping out one of your friends.”

Was Trina a friend? Hiro felt that he was a friend to her, but was it mutual? Considering she did reach out to him for help just before she blew up, he’d like to think so.

Liv stood and straightened out her dress. “You said this girl is dying right? Then time is of the essence. Let’s get her into stasis ASAP and get a sample of her DNA so I can start growing her new body.”

Hiro and Karmi gave each other a worried look. They had been so focused on just talking to Liv that they hadn’t thought of certain rather important details. “Um, does it have to be her DNA specifically?” Karmi asked.

“If you want her to be the same person, then yes.”

“Couldn’t you just take someone else’s DNA and modify it so that it matches hers, or is at least close enough?”

“I suppose so, but that would be needlessly complicated and would introduce a number of areas where things could go wrong. Is there some reason why we can’t just use her own DNA?”

Hiro scratched his chin, a little hesitant to come right out and say it. “She ... doesn’t have any.”

Liv gave the teens a disbelieving look. “That’s impossible. Every living thing is made up of DNA. Even the smallest of single-cell organisms has DNA. You can’t be alive and not have DNA. Hiro, if this is some kind of prank I’m going to be very unhappy.”

“It’s not, I swear!”

“Then there’s obviously something you’re not telling me. I can’t help if I don’t know what’s going on. So spill it.”

Hiro sighed and gestured for her to retake her seat. Once they were all sitting again he and Karmi slowly explained the situation in full. Liv at first seemed skeptical, then curious, and finally excited about what they wanted to do.

“Fascinating,” she said. “Mankind’s latest attempts at immortality have been to digitize the human mind, but you want to do the opposite. Take a mind that is already digital and place it in an organic body.”

“Basically, yes,” Hiro agreed. “So now that you know the whole story, are you still willing to help us?”

“Willing? Of course I am! More than willing. Pushing the boundaries of bioengineering like this is exactly what Sycorax was made for. There will be a fair amount of research to do, and while I can’t guarantee success I can guarantee that you’ll have the full support of myself and my staff.”

Hiro felt the tension that had built up in his body fade away. It was such a relief that he nearly started to cry. “Thank you, really,” he said as he wiped away the beginnings of tears. “This was really our last shot. If you couldn’t help us, then...”

Karmi took his hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. “But she can, and she will, so there’s no need to worry about that any more,” she said.

Liv noticed the way the two teens held hands. “Huh. The way Diane described the two of you I thought you hated each other.”

Hiro felt a little embarrassed but didn’t let go of Karmi’s hand. “We used to, sort of. We got off on the wrong foot but have gotten to know each other since then, and now I can’t imagine my life without her.” That made Karmi blush and she squeezed his hand just a little harder.

The three of them then made plans on how to move forward with what Liv dubbed “The T Project”. Seeing as how Karmi was the expert in this particular field, she would be the one Liv would be working with most of the time, rather than Hiro. This worked out well, as Karmi could resume her internship at Sycorax and it would free Hiro from having to try and manage one more thing when he was already swamped with his own work, both academic and extracurricular. It did mean a little less free time for the two of them to hang out together, but they were both willing to make that sacrifice if it meant they could ultimately save Trina.

The two teens still managed to have one or two “study dates” a week (though not much studying got done during those times), but otherwise the next month was filled with either schoolwork or Hiro rebuilding The Lucky Cat while Karmi worked with Liv on the Trina project. Megan did her best to help them out, though the best she could do was be a gopher for them now and again, and she managed to get in an apology of sorts for her little strip tease by giving Hiro a taste of what he missed out on by straight up flashing him just as he was about to leave for one of his dates with Karmi.

Hiro of course made sure to tell Karmi right away, then proceeded to show her how she would benefit from any and all teasing from the other girl. When he was done Karmi ended up being so pleased with his performance that she actually texted Megan and thanked her for Hiro’s added motivation. After Hiro pointed out that saying that would only encourage Megan, Karmi did add in a warning for Megan not to take her teasing too far.

The rest of the team was glad to hear of the potential breakthrough with Trina and offered to help in any way they could, but with only Honey Lemon having any real experience with biology that help was rather limited in scope. Instead, they restructured their patrols to minimize Hiro’s time away from what he needed to focus on. They would have removed him completely but he insisted on helping out, if only to give his mind a break from the other stuff.

“So, if all this works out then Trina will be no different from a regular human, right?” GoGo asked while she and Hiro were out on one such patrol. They were on the roof of an apartment complex overlooking a large chunk of the neighborhood, with the two of them sitting on the edge with their legs dangling over the side.

“Yes. At least that’s the hope,” he replied. “Why do you ask?”

“Well, if she were human then she’d have skin in the game, and I do mean literally, to not trigger another robot revolution.”

“Good point. Though considering she did ask for help before her self-destruct malfunctioned, I’d like to think she was already heading in the right direction in that regard.”

“And Karmi’s okay with all this? With you basically bringing your first girlfriend back from the dead? Yes, I know she’s not actually dead, but you get my point.”

“How many times do I have to say it? Trina was never my girlfriend. Yes, at first I thought that we might eventually have something special, but any thoughts of love I may have had are long gone. Besides, I’m with Karmi now and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“The sex is that good, huh?” GoGo teased while managing to keep her face completely neutral. Well, almost. There was the tiniest upturn of her mouth that hinted at the grin she was trying hard to suppress.

Hiro blushed at the sudden shift in their conversation. He had never really talked about his sex life to anyone but Karmi herself, and perhaps Megan. Not knowing what else to say, he simply told the truth. “It is.”

GoGo gave him a playful punch in the arm. “Good for you, man. I’m happy things are working out for the two of you. Though just so you know, the offer still stands.”

“What offer?”

“That if things somehow don’t work out with Karmi, Honey Lemon and I will gladly be your rebound girls.”

Hiro’s blush deepened, but he managed to keep his voice steady as he replied. “Oh, that offer. I, uh, I really don’t know what to say about that. Thanks, I guess. But don’t you mean Honey Lemon OR you?”

GoGo gave him a sideways grin. “Nope. As I mentioned back in my apartment, I’ve never had a threesome before but if I were to have one I’d want you to be the guy.”

Despite his best efforts to resist, an image came to Hiro’s mind of GoGo and Honey Lemon, naked and having sex with each other right in front of him, only for them to turn their attention towards him and invite him to join in.

“Please don’t tease me like that,” he said, shaking his head to try and banish the heavenly vision. Not to mention that having an erection while wearing his armour was incredibly uncomfortable. “I’m with Karmi and I have no desire for that to ever change.”

“Then how about instead of being your rebound girls, we could be your side pieces? If Karmi is willing to share, that is,” GoGo said. Uncharacteristically, she actually winked at him.
