Chapter 11: June’s Story

Summer sort of reluctantly gave way to fall, as April went to her university, while Shelly and May started their sophomore year in high school.

With my newfound inheritance, I quit my job. I took on a new project: buying the neighbor’s house and converting it into a second home for our growing family.

Do not get me wrong – I absolutely loved Shelly and April rooming together, with May and I shacking up in my room. A situation I expected to be awkward ended up not being so.

However, I thought April and Shelly deserved more space. I thought they deserved more privacy.

The house had been abandoned for a couple of years now, and the realtor had drastically reduced the price. In the end, I probably paid about half what the original owner had paid for the place 10 years ago.

The first thing I did was extend the privacy fence from around our backyard to encompass both backyards. Fortunately, repairs were not necessary inside, although relaying the flooring and repainting were beneficial. I also replaced the old cabinets with new ones.

Shelly helped me out a little bit by finding a “want list” of furniture and decorations that April had created on various sites several months ago. “I guess she got into a period where she started daydreaming about her place,” Shelly told me. “And I know from the way her room was decorated, she is still into this stuff.”

Meanwhile, I made sure the girls living under my roof not only attended school but also kept up with their studies. Fortunately, there was more than enough time to keep up our training along with our studies.

It also helped that both girls were already very dedicated to their schooling, so I didn’t have to remind them most of the time.

Most evenings were spent chilling out in the living room, May and I cuddling while April sat in her chair, texting. Sometimes, a big grin would spread across her face; she would excuse herself and go upstairs.
