More powers are in play, and Aiden must protect those who love him while seeking a showdown.

“My word, you are so much more handsome in person, Aiden Wilson.”
The voice, undeniably feminine, yet with an otherworldly current, drew Aiden’s gaze to a vision of pure loveliness. Amid long black lashes, fathomless obsidian eyes nipped at his soul from the face of a queen, or dark princess. Not based on the color of her skin, that was a gleaming tan. No, a wispy gloom surrounded her like a soft pulsing anti-glow.
Clad in a curve-hugging—and there were a lot of curves to hug—bright white dress, the tall vision stood smiling. Thick snowy-blonde hair swayed across toned, bare shoulders. For that matter, the plunging neckline displayed more skin, and healthy swells threatened to ooze from the bodice. Likewise, though the gown was ankle-length, hip-high slits offered tantalizing peeks of both perfect legs.
“May I?” One dainty hand’s long, slim fingers gestured to the bench beside Leah.
“Um, yes.” He started to rise.
“No, stay seated.” She smiled, sliding onto the seat as the trembling young woman eased away, making room. “I’m sorry to interrupt.”
While scanning Leah, those obsidian pools flashed, and it was evident she was not sorry to have interrupted. Not at all. Aiden gulped and peeked at the ring. The ebon eyes followed his gaze.
“Hmm, there it is. Rather troublesome, is it not?”
“You must be Treacle?”
“Ah, my apologies.” Her head dipped for a millisecond.
With a wider grin, she took Leah’s glass and brought it to the most perfect lips in the universe. Full, pursing, parting, glossy bright red wax peeling apart at their delightful corners. As his pulse thundered, he scanned Leah, but she was fixated on the divine—no, wrong word—creature beside her. When his attention returned to the blonde, Treacle was sipping, and the languid motions of her throat became the only thing in the world.
“Your kind are so amusing,” she said over the rim of the glass.
“What do you—”
“We could fuck anytime you wish, Aiden.” Her sudden laughter was edged with a hint of cruelty. “Surprised horny Leah hasn’t done so already. Very surprised.”
“Lemme guess.” He ripped his gaze from her to look at the lump of ancient metal, suddenly seeming so vulnerable in the middle of the table. “You’re here to take it?”
“Hmm, changing the subject.” She scoffed and nodded at the ring. “Fine. No, I’m here only because she’s failing. And I’d rather not see that happen again.”
“Why? What are you gonna do to her?”
“Ah, there it is. That famous Aiden concern. You get that from your father. He’s been a ... challenge.”
“To you?”
“No, not directly. To others.” A tinkling laugh escaped her. “Quite the renegade.”
The black eyes twinkled as she took another slow—very slow—sip. The swallowing was even slower, and her perfect eyebrows rose as every motion of her perfect throat held his attention. Jaw clenched, he tore himself from the view and shook his head.
Surprise, she was beyond tempting. He eyed Leah, but the slender woman’s gaze remained fixed on her master. When his focus returned to Treacle, he lifted the wine and took a healthy swig. After smacking his lips, he leaned towards her.
“Now you’re the one doing the avoiding,” he grumbled. “Haven’t answered my question.”
“Mmm, so forceful.” She bit a perfect lip with perfect white teeth. “I like that.” At the surge of pale globes when she unleashed a heavy sigh, his gaze dropped to her perfect chest. “Ah, you enjoy them?” She winked at Leah, who jumped. “I would enjoy showing you all of me.”
That exchange hardened something in Aiden. Sure, she was playing, but there was a gravitas building around them. It required much effort, but he willed his pulse to slow.
“Stop with the games, Treacle.” After a quiet sigh, he took a drink, reclining until his spine pressed into the soft leather cushion. “You’re here for a reason.”
“Indeed. As I said, Leah is about to fail. You believe she can be saved? I disagree.”
“Saved?”
“Yes, saved.” She uttered an airy giggle that would’ve been cute had it come from anyone else. “Hui Ying told me many things.”
“What have you—”
“Nuh-uh.” She wagged a long finger; its brilliant white nail flashed under the lights. “Behave. Here’s the thing, Aiden Wilson. She—no, both of them, like all my pets ... hmm, they are but husks.”
“Husks?”
“Yes. Think you can free my pets?” Another heavy breath drew him to her chest, and she eased forward, letting more of those perfect globes spill into view. “They probably believe it, deep down in whatever remains of their old selves, which isn’t much at all.”
“What are you saying?”
“Leah, what do you want from Aiden?”
“P-Power,” she replied in a shaky whisper.
“Hmm, and what did you want from me?”
“Um, power.”
“You see. She’d be trading one master for another. That is their way now. Hui Ying understood; that’s why she never truly considered remaining with you.” When she looked at the woman, Leah shuddered and seemed to shrink. “This delightful pet ... Well, I had much higher hopes for her.”
“Don’t care.” With a growl, he moved his hand, shoving the ring before the tall blonde ... perfection. The ring’s sudden screech echoed in his skull; it hadn’t uttered a sound the whole time. Nor had any flames appeared. “Let’s make a deal. Take it. Give me them. Mary and Leah. Let them find their own way.”
“Sorry, Aiden.” As she shook her head, the platinum tresses glittered. “There are rules.”
“Rules? You’re not taking it from me.” He scoffed. “I’m giving it up.”
“No.” Treacle looked at the shaking woman and raised her glass. “She must.”
“Why?”
Although he almost snarled, when she sighed once more, the gentle rise and fall of both perfect breasts drew it away. Something was off. Everyone was far too calm. Even the ring quieted as he found—and held—the bottomless black pools. Heart battering his ribs for the first time, he glanced at the slender woman, now flicking her gaze between the blonde, the ring, and him.
“Challenges,” he whispered.
“Pardon?” Treacle said, head cocking.
Leah sat silent, but her head also tilted.
“Rules, huh?” he muttered. “So, what if I did this?”
At his sudden tensing, the ring flared to life, and even as ethereal flames erupted along its etchings, he shoved it onto his finger. The entire world wobbled for a millisecond when he shot the hand forward. No sooner had his fingers found her throat than Treacle’s perfect long eyelashes flew wide.
