“That is something to think about.” Lucia says, fighting her jealousy.

“I thought I would share him with you, Mistress, like I have been.” Alexia says.

A few minutes later everyone is assembled, and Jane walks in. “What’s going on honey?” Robert asks. “New rules from BAA or something?”

“Yes, but that’s not really why we are here. We can talk about that at the end.” Jane says. “I wanted to explain how I plan to make sure you continue to get your Chinese food fix.” Jane turns on the TV, and pairs it with her phone. “This is Mei.” She says, putting up the first image she had taken, a simple picture of Mei’s face, smiling.

“The Chen’s granddaughter?” Robert asks.

“Yes, isn’t she pretty? She’s 19 now.” Jane leads Robert.

“Because I promised Mrs Chen that we would bid on her. And I plan to keep that promise. And to keep you supplied with Chinese food. Mei has been working in the back for the past several years, and you’ve probably had her cooking a dozen times without even realizing it.” Jane says.

“They asked you to take her?” Robert says.

“She practically begged. She wanted me to claim her right away, but I explained we didn’t have any claims left, so instead I promised to buy her as long as we have the cash to afford it.” Jane says.

“And Mei is fine with this?” Robert asks incredulously. “She doesn’t even know us really.”

“Mei said we are her first choice.” Jane explains. “She remembers you from when she was little, and while Mrs Chen was prepared to reach out to other longtime customers, she said they would both rather her to go us.”
