Chapter 35: Wrapping up and Epilogue

May 6

Ertak tries to find Neiia but can’t find her anywhere. Kieron goes to look at the body on the other side of the room and sees that it’s a child’s body, and it might not be dead yet. Agnarr doesn’t dare come into the room because it’s so hot, but instead prays to nature gods for help, so Kieron has to carry the child alone to Ertak.

Ertak states that the child is still alive but in poor condition. The group thinks about where they could find Neiia but can’t figure it out. Kieron is of the opinion that Neiia has really failed in her spell, so she’s probably somewhere a hundred miles away. Ertak, in turn, believes that Neiia is at maximum somewhere within a radius of maximum five-six hundred feet. The group performs first aid and waits to see if Neiia comes back. Five minutes later, the group decides to go see if Neiia is where the others are. Neiia isn’t there either, so they think and come to the conclusion that they have examined this entire upper floor except for one corridor, so they probably need to look there. They take the children and Eogrin with them and go outward, looking for Neiia at the same time. When they get to the first room, they rest and heal Kieron before going to explore the last unexplored area.

They come to a room full of steam. In the middle of the room is a pool with an obelisk in the center, from the top of which bubbles hot water. When the group tries to see something, Agnarr suddenly sees Neiia walking across the big room behind. Agnarr runs after her, but the people in the big room haven’t seen anyone. They run to the next intersection, but nothing is visible there. When they think about it, they conclude that maybe it’s Neiia’s ghost. They wait for some time, but nothing else appears. The group thinks about what to do and decides to explore the entire floor, trying to find Neiia’s body if she has indeed died and is haunting. They don’t find anything other than those kobolds.

When the kobolds wonder what’s going on, the group tells them that we’ve lost one person. The priest asks if you mean the person who teleported out of here. The priest tells that he once tried to learn the said magic but couldn’t learn it because he always got sick after moving a couple of yards.

He does tell, however, that after that, he learned to feel when someone teleports, so he felt that someone teleported out of here some time ago. According to the priest, the teleport went outside, not inside or downward. He also tells that from downstairs, apparently someone always teleports somewhere. Kieron say at this point that “I did say that she teleported 100 miles away”. The group thinks for a long time about what to do and finally decides to go outside to their camp to rest and care for the children. They get out without problems.

Neiia finds herself somewhere in the mountains, and after wondering for a moment, she finally recognizes that she is near the Spire of Lemriss. So about 40-50 miles away from the others. Neiia starts heading toward Riddleport; the distance there is about 35 miles. She rests for a bit more than half an hour and then starts down the mountain. On the way down, she sees some building in the middle of the forest.

She starts heading toward the building and eventually gets to it.

Ertak heals the children and then goes into a healing sleep himself. Five seconds after this, Agnarr hears some noise from the forest. Kieron and Agnarr prepare to go into hiding and set up an ambush when Agnarr suddenly recognizes that Neiia is coming from there. He calls out to Neiia, and she responds. Neiia says that she thought she was somewhere completely different, to which Kieron replies that so did she. Neiia starts examining her items, and Kieron and Agnarr continue keeping watch.

An hour before sunrise, a forest elf walks to the scene. He is clearly selling something, although he is very reluctant and doesn’t really believe that anyone here would buy anything. He apparently has clerical items, so Ertak is the only potential customer.

The seller presents the items, and Ertak decides to buy a symbol that helps with hitting from a distance. The seller is very disappointed and depressed about this but still goes to get the item. He says he’ll return in five minutes. The man walks into the forest, and there’s a flash, and five minutes later, the forest elf returns. In addition, he gives a three-hundred-page contract to which Ertak has to put his mark on each page and his name at the end. Ertak doesn’t bother to read the contract because it would apparently take several months to read through. Finally, Ertak puts his names on the paper and then pays 6.8 gp for the item, meaning Kieron lends 4.88 gp, 0.8 gp comes from the common fund, and Ertak himself has 1.12 gp.

Neiia examines the items more. A couple of hours after sunrise, the group is in good condition and ready to leave. The group returns the children to Falcon’s Hollow and leaves in the afternoon back toward Sandpoint.
