Chapter 29: Exploring the Monastery

May 6

8 am

A wizard who looks like a human appears in the room, introducing himself as a traveling magic potion merchant.

The group buys six Potions of False Healing and six Nails of Sealing. Group members buy various potions for themselves. The group rests and examines the room thoroughly by 09:00. Then they set off downstairs.

The stairs descend about 20 feet downward (vertically). The group arrives in a large room with reliefs and engravings on the wall depicting dwarves. In the middle of the room is a former obelisk, just over a meter in height. They step into the room and notice six kobolds carrying stone slabs further away, two kobolds pulling and four following alongside. A battle ensues. When the group has taken down the kobold guards, we hear some screeching, and Kieron runs away. Neiia casts dehydration spells, and the group eventually takes down the kobolds. Then they are attacked by a few bloodsucking birds. The birds make Agnarr very tired but cause no other major harm. While this is happening, Neiia notices that a ghost is approaching them along the corridor, which then attempts to attack the group.

The ghost attacks, and Kieron hits it a couple of times and apparently causes some damage. Ertak splashes holy water on the ghost’s neck. The ghost hits Kieron, and she gets caught in a grapple, but fortunately manages to escape when Neiia cast blink on her. Kieron hits the ghost several times, Agnarr charges into the center of the ghost and is paralyzed for about ten seconds. After this, Ertak tries to parry the ghost and gets eaten by it and is paralyzed for about 20 seconds. Kieron hits the ghost, and Neiia throws a water ball at it.

Neiia uses an orb to remove Agnarr’s paralysis, and Agnarr returns to the battle. Kieron and Agnarr hit the ghost several times. Kieron almost gets paralyzed but feels lucky.

Neiia throws water balls, and Kieron cuts at the ghost from inside, while Agnarr taunts it from outside with his axe. A bit later Kieron gets corrosion inside the ghost and feels lucky again and heals. Eventually Ertak wakes up from the paralysis and starts cutting at the ghost, and finally manages to destroy it. On seeing the remains and thinking about it, the group realizes that it was not a ghost, but instead an axe and armor floating inside a gelatinous cube.

The group finds full plate armor and a magic axe, both dwarf-sized. They collect these and head to the campsite to rest. Ertak heals the damage and they regenerate fatigue and energy reserves. It’s a little after midday when they are in good shape.

The group goes down again. Downstairs, they first go to look at the room where those small bugs came from. In that room, there are only a lot of stone beds, but nothing else. The group examines the room and continues on. Kieron moves to the front to sneak, and the others follow with lights. After moving about 20 feet, Kieron hears some shouting and sounds of battle from ahead, so she starts sneaking more quickly.

Kieron sees five kobolds standing and one kobold lying on the ground. Three kobolds have slings, and the other three kobolds have shields and spears. In the middle of them is another kobold with a rope and some weight at the end, which he’s spinning above his head. The kobolds are looking at something on the side that Kieron can’t see.

Kieron engages in battle with the kobolds while the others follow. Ertak has heard some noise from behind, as if a big stone ball or similar is coming, so he rushes forward at full speed. He tries to run past one kobold but falls straight into it and falls to the ground on his face while the kobold flies a couple of meters backward onto its back.

Kieron sees in the side room a young girl with a big club in her hand. Agnarr attacks the boss-looking guy and strikes his pick so that it penetrates the kobold’s armor twice, because the entire pick goes through the kobold’s entire body.
