Amanda felt much better after about four orgasms, the last of which seemed to be multiples.
We were on the floor, which I didn’t recall moving us to, working to catch our collective breaths. I eased up to my elbows and looked at her face. She studied my face and smiled. “Thank you,” she said. “I needed that.” I smiled back, leaned down and kissed her.
A few minutes later, we were on our feet. She was holding out her clothes as if they had been lying in a cesspool. She looked at me with a mix of disgust and confusion. I shook my head and used Greta’s cleaning spell on her, me, and our clothes. I didn’t use the splash effect, but adjusted it so she felt as if I had hit her with a gentle spring breeze.
Once we were dressed and ready to leave, I led the way out. Amanda beamed like she had won the lotto. I dismissed the spells on the bathroom after we left, and at least four women charged into it like they knew it was there but couldn’t find it. No one called us out. No one tried to chase us down. Security didn’t give us a second glance. We were a couple leaving the airport. Everything was as it should be.
Except, I still felt as if someone was watching me. I did my best to look around without letting any hints drop to Amanda.
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked.
I had always been as open as possible with my girls. Keeping things from them was about as easy as ignoring them when they wanted sex. I shook my head. “I guess the events from the manor are still bothering me. I feel like someone’s watching me.”
She glanced to either side too. “Nothing seems out of place.”
I took a deep breath, draped my arm across her shoulders and smiled. “Nothing normal is out of place. It’s probably just me.”
She elbowed my side. “If I have to, I’ll drag you off to a motel and make you forget those problems.”
I grinned at her. “Thank you for the thought, but I do need to stay aware. I just can’t let it get to me.”
“Does this have to do with your mom?” she asked gently.
“That’s a big part of it,” I said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the Ranger looking for her has assigned someone to keep an eye on me in case Walker shows up.”
“That’s probably it then,” she said. “And the idiot doesn’t know how to keep their voodoo subtle.”
I snorted a laugh. “Voodoo?”
She shrugged. “When you do it, it’s Magic! But anyone else is just a witchdoctor selling snake oil.”
I laughed again. She didn’t laugh, but she was smiling. Maybe it was her way of helping me to feel better.
Her suggestion about the lack of subtlety hit me hard though. Someone was watching me. They were using magic to do it. I wasn’t worried about Blackfeather wanting to keep an eye on me, but I had seen how his people worked. They were good. This was sloppy. Whoever was watching wanted me to feel unnerved. I didn’t feel unnerved anymore. I felt angry. Who was watching me? Why?
My questions would have to wait. Amanda led the way to where the cars were parked. Nobody had bothered to get in them yet. It quickly occurred to me that everyone wanted to ride with me. It wasn’t sexual either. If anything, it seemed like they would miss me, but that wasn’t it either. Again, it was like everyone thought I would leave them. Upon realizing this, I turned to Amanda and said, “See? You weren’t the only one.”
There were a lot of confused expressions. I held up my hands to stifle the questions. “Amanda expressed a feeling that she would lose me, and now all of you are acting the same way.”
“I’m not going to lose you,” Lisa said. “Because you’re not going anywhere without me.”
I shook my head. “No, I can’t take all of you with me everywhere I go.” Then I shot a look at Jordan.
She caught it and said, “We’re only going to the apartment complex to get all of you set up. Seth is going there too. We just can’t all ride in the same car.”
Most of them calmed down, except Maria. “Apartments? We’re not in a house?”
I smiled. “I don’t have a house big enough.”
“Then where would everyone live if you were in an apartment?” she asked. To her, it was just that simple. Everyone else looked at her like she had grown a second head.
“These are questions we can answer as we travel,” Lana said.
Everyone nodded and we split up into the two cars. Lana, Amanda, Maria, and I were in Lana’s car. Jordan, Lisa, Alyssa, and Olive rode in Jordan’s car.
Once on the road, I explained to Maria that the Manor was a luxury I couldn’t afford in Texas.
“Why not?” Lana asked. “I’m not suggesting moving the Manor here, but I found a piece of land on which you could build a rather large house. And, it’s near the apartment complex.”
“Wait, you couldn’t find me an apartment or small house?” I asked.
“No,” she said. “It seems as though the owners of Shadowbrook have blacklisted you.”
“But the fire wasn’t my fault,” I said. “Besides, their insurance should have covered the damages.”
“As I understand it, it did,” she said. “But, the fire report came back as arson. As such, the insurance company is looking for someone to blame.”
“Well, it was arson,” I said. “But the person who started the fire has since been arrested.”
“Good,” she said. “Give me the name and I’ll make sure the Insurance Company knows for whom to question.”
“Will that help with getting my name off the blacklist?”
“That’s not an actual thing,” Lana said. “It’s more of a reputation thing.”
“But that’s slander,” Amanda said.
“True,” Lana said, glancing at her in the rear-view mirror. “Unfortunately, just like any other instance of trust, even when someone is proven innocent, there’s still the stink of stigma on them.” Then she glanced at me. “That’s what’s happened to you now.”
“So, I have to suffer just because someone else decided I should die.” Yes, the very idea was devious. The owners had covered their proverbial asses by not actually doing anything in retaliation for the fire, but my reputation was damaged simply because of my presence. I had to change direction. “Does this hurt my chances of buying property?”
“No, because you’re becoming the owner, rather than continuing to be a rentee,” she said. “Insurance companies, however, may be another issue.”
“Wait,” Amanda interjected, “didn’t you just inherit a shit-ton of money?”
“Yeah, something like that,” I mumbled.
“You still have to meet Hitomi, your family accountant,” Lana said.
“Daa-aaamn!” Amanda said, drawing out the word. “You have a family accountant?”
I looked back at her. “Lana is my Family Assistant,” I said, trying to downplay the ridiculousness to which Amanda elevated me. I was tempted to ask Maria to distract Amanda while Lana and I spoke, however, she probably wouldn’t understand the modern ribbing Amanda was doing.
Trying to get back to my conversion, I turned to Lana and asked, “Have you already scheduled a meeting?”
“We can go to her office at any time,” she said.
“Wait, where’s her office?” I asked.
“Dallas,” she said.
Amanda piped up again. “Wait, if the family manor is in Virginia, why is her office in Dallas?”
It was a good question.
“She has offices all over the country,” Lana said. “Hitomi has a very large Accounting firm that works for several multi-million dollar companies, and wealthy families.”
“So, she has to travel a lot?” I asked.
“Only when called for,” she said. “She knows you’re new to your family finances, so she made herself available to you for any questions you might have.”
I slumped in my seat. “I wouldn’t even know where to begin, or what questions to ask.”
“Well, that’s what the meeting is for,” she said. “So, you’ll have a chance to come up with questions to ask and give her the opportunity to answer them.”
I nodded and decided to get off that topic for the moment. “You said you found property. Where?”
“Close to the apartments, on the other side of Cooper.”
“I thought that was a store of some kind,” I said.
“Yes, there are several actually. But, behind them are several properties that could be combined into something suitable for you.”
“Isn’t there a creek that runs through there?”
“Yes, Johnson Creek.”
“And doesn’t that creek flood when the rain is heavy?”
“Yes,” Lana said while watching the road.
“Why would I want that property?”
“Well, it meets the criteria you set: somewhere close to Shadowbrook apartments. There’s enough land on which you can build almost anything you want, once the proper drainage systems for the creek have been built.”
“This sounds expensive,” I said.
“And time-consuming,” Amanda added. “Where does he sleep until it’s ready?”
“That is something I have discussed with the others.”
“Others?” I asked.
She nodded. “Jordan, Danielle, and Jana to start. They’ve all agreed that you would stay with them, moving from one place to another until your new place is ready.”
“Really?” I asked, feeling silly. “And they agreed to this?”
She snorted. “They insisted on it. But, to get started on anything like this, you need to meet with Hitomi.”
I nodded. “I will tomorrow. Today, I need to meet with some of my House Members.”
Lana shook her head. “I don’t understand. Wouldn’t it be better to get the wheels rolling on your residence.”
“As you’ve pointed out, details on that have already been worked out,” I said. “Events at the airport tell me I need to get to House Ursae as soon as possible, if for no other reason than to let my House members know that I’m back and things will be getting back to normal.”
“Where do you want to go?” she asked.
It was a good question. Going to a specific apartment would put the residents out until I left - regardless of how much they wanted me there. There wasn’t a common area for residents to congregate either. I was so used to holding meetings in my own apartment, I never gave it any thought as to where I would hold future meetings.
“There’s the pool,” Amanda said. “I’ve seen several women there.”
I nodded. “Sounds good.”
Lana glanced at me, as if throwing me a dirty look.
“It’s still winter, Ms. Kulick,” I said. “I seriously doubt anyone will be there in swimwear.”
Then I heard giggling from the back seat.
“What?” I asked, knowing I was missing something.
“Not from what I’ve seen,” Amanda said.
Maria spoke up then. “Is it a heated pool?”
I looked back at her. She had an earnest look. “Is the pool at the manor heated?” I asked. “I never went out to check it.”
She smiled, blushed, and then shook her head. “No, but Henry gave me a special swimsuit. I never got cold when I went swimming.”
I nodded and faced forward again. “And I know a tailor who can do the same sort of thing.”
“So, the pool?” Lana asked.
I nodded. “It’s the only place I can think of where everyone who wants to see me can easily find me, once word spreads.”
“You’re talking like a celebrity,” Amanda said.
“He’s the House Lord,” Maria said. “I’m sure there are a number of House members who come to him for solutions to issues.”
I nodded in confirmation and wondered just how much Maria learned about her family before being captured by that camera.
The remainder of the ride to the complex was quiet. I had called Jordan to let her know what I was planning. She said she would call ahead to inform the others.
When we arrived at the complex, it was mid-afternoon, and there were several people lounging around the pool. For a moment, I sat in the car looking at the loungers. All but one of them were women. The sole man wore a business suit. He looked comfortable if a bit out of place near the pool. All of the women, however, were dressed appropriately for lounging next to a pool. All seven of them. None of them attempted to cover themselves or appeared the slightest bit cold. And all of them were clad - barely - in various string bikinis.
I looked over at Lana. She looked back at me. The expression on her face was neutral. I wasn’t sure if she was feeling amused or disgusted. One thing was certain, I didn’t want to play her in poker. I thumbed at the pool. “Has this been the norm since I left?”
“No,” Amanda said from the back seat. “From what I’ve seen, that’s the first guy in a business suit by the pool.”
I took in that idea, and then I realized that I was the only Magus in the car. I couldn’t immediately ask anyone for advice regarding my members’ attire.
Jordan knocked on my window, making me jump. She smirked and asked, “Are you getting out?” Her smirk told me she was amused by my reluctance to approach so many scantily clad babes. So glad I could amuse her.
I climbed out of the car, followed by the women who rode with me. I looked around at everyone else. It almost felt wrong to look in the direction of the pool. Everyone else just stared at me as if waiting for me to make my big move. I knew I couldn’t avoid this. For that matter, I had set it up. But, why did the women have to wear bikinis?
I turned toward the pool area, and Jordan ushered everyone else away. This was not a time for my Fonti to feel insecure. It was bad enough that I felt that way.
The loungers all glanced my way as I approached. Several sat up, aware of my rank.
One of the women stood up, smiling and eager. She had great curves, a stud piercing her right nostril, and beautiful dark hair. Her bikini barely covered her legal bits, though I could tell she wore another piercing through her right nipple. She padded over to me in bare feet and stopped within reach. She eased down to her knees in front of me and looked up as if offering herself.
I’ve never been big on protocol. When visiting other Houses in the area, I dressed for formal meetings. I also understood that members typically offered something to their House Lord or Lady when meeting with them. But this young woman appeared happy to slip me out of my pants and give me a delightful sample of her oral skills.
I glanced around. Everyone watched. I looked down at her with a small smile. “Kneeling isn’t necessary,” I said, and then held out my hand to help her to her feet.
She held onto my hand, stepped closer, and quickly leaned in and kissed me square on the lips. It wasn’t a deep, probing kiss, but more like something a teenager would do.
I let the kiss linger, because it was nice, and then gently pulled back. “Thank you,” I said and she smiled.
“My name is Jenny,” she said. “I wanted to thank you for offering a place where I feel comfortable.” Then she glanced to her sides and blushed slightly at what she had been witnessed doing.
“Thank you, Jenny,” I said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze since she still held mine. “Welcome to House Ursae.”
Her smile brightened and she turned back to her seat, letting her fingers slowly slip out of my hand.
All of the women were lovely. There were two who were exceptional. The first was a goth.
Why would a goth be out, lounging by a pool in a string bikini as if trying to acquire a tan? Well, it was the middle of winter, so the likelihood of actually tanning was slim. How did I know she was goth? Well, the jet black hair, pale skin, and black makeup were all good clues.
When she stood, she stretched as if having been in a car too long. I noted the black bikini covered everything legally required though the panties were a thong. When she turned to face me, I also noticed a black choker. She walked up to me with something in mind. When she reached me, she reached for my face with delicate fingers tipped with black nails. She rose up onto her toes and kissed me. Everyone else kept it at a press of lips, but I felt her tongue dart out and lick my lips. After we broke apart, she studied my face and said, “One day soon, you and I will shake the very foundation of this complex.” Then she turned and went back to her seat. I never even got her name.
Still reeling from the goth encounter, a blonde stood next. She was taller than all the other women, and moved with a grace I only attributed to truly experienced Magi. She had an amazing figure, with skin as pale as my own and deep brown eyes. I only mention her skin tone because when she spoke it was with a latin accent. “Hola, my name is Sabrina.”
She held out her hand to shake, which I took. “My name is Seth. Welcome to House Ursae.”
“Nice to finally meet you, Seth,” she said, withdrawing her hand. “I understand you were away on business?”
I nodded. “Family business.”
“Then it is good you have so many women at your beck and call.”
I started to laugh and then stopped. “I wouldn’t call it that.”
“Then what do you call it when these women do every little thing you desire?”
“Working together.”
“But how can you work together, when you’re off in another state?”
I frowned. “Is there a point to these questions?”
She shook her head and said, “I am only trying to get a better understanding of how House Ursae works.”
I nodded. “As any community where everyone helps everyone.”
She blinked, almost looking confused. “Don’t you make rules the members must follow?”
“Such as?”
“Who is allowed to be a member?” she asked. “What about protocols for meetings like this? Maybe assign proper attire for meeting the House Lord?” Her tone took on a haughty aspect as she spoke.
She was quickly focusing on my inexperience as a House Lord. “Rules regarding protocols for meetings like this are already set. Else we would be having this meeting elsewhere and in different attire,” I said. “As for who is allowed to be a member, there are no restrictions.” My fears were increasing my anger. “Do you have any other questions?”
“No,” she said shortly, “Not at this time.” Then she gave me a very slight nod of her head, turned and went back to her seat.
We were down to the guy in the suit and the last woman, and I didn’t want either of them feeling like I would take things out on them. I looked their way with an inquisitive glance. She waved at him, allowing him to go ahead of her. He smiled, nodded in thanks, and then rose.
When he approached, he almost looked sick. I held out my hand to shake. He took it, and had a good, firm grip. “Hey,” he said and then looked around at the others. “I don’t have to kiss you too, do I?”
