Chapter 2

Barrett moved into the mother-in-law’s suite two weeks later at Nana’s. Rosa came too and took care of Nana’s house since her maid retired and moved back home. The tutor was gone, and Barrett now takes college courses online exclusively. He had before, but the tutor also taught him. Now, he’s enrolled at two colleges for eight classes this semester.

Cassidy Thompson was in jail waiting for trial for soliciting murder, drug dealing, and a bunch of misdemeanors. Callie, Chloe, Sadie, Sage, and Skylar are on probation and in the custody of Child Protective Services. They were at the house when the Police arrived and were under the influence of drugs. Detective Halverson, after his testicles were removed and he had surgery on his penis, was booked for attempted murder and murder for hire.

Apollo and Bull Sandra Carpenter’s dogs are attack trained with German commands, and Berrett goes one day a week with an attack dummy to reinforce their training. Cindy is friendly to Barrett whenever he visits her house to train Sandy, her dog. Barrett told Nana about it and told him to be careful. She asked Barrett if he noticed it with other girls or women. Barrett said now you mention it, yes, some are more affectionate. But he got along with all the females except his cousins, and they laughed.

Madeline called Doctor Andros and asked if what was happening to Barrett was his pheromones. Doctor Andros asked Madeline if Barrett had affected her, and she said no. Madeline said I love my grandson, but not that way. Doctor Andros laughed and said he asked because pheromones affect people differently. The only way to be sure is to test Barrett on his next visit.

Doctor Andros asked Madeline to watch people’s reactions to Barrett, both male and female. If Barrett has strong pheromones, they can go from smother with love to I want to kill you and everything in between. A woman’s cycle can also affect her reaction. My best advice is to watch him and plan on coming early and staying longer, and they said goodbye.

Sandra Carpenter was better than an ad in the newspaper or other media. She spread the word about her dog trainer’s greatness, and Barrett’s waiting list was three months long. Luckily, attack dog training wasn’t in high demand, and Barrett only liked doing it if he felt comfortable with the customer. Barrett kept his schedule on the computer and only scheduled three training sessions a week, and every month, he took a week off.

Nana asked Barrett if he could schedule two weeks in Switzerland for their next visit. Barrett said yes and asked why. Nana said Doctor Andros wanted to do some testing this time. Nana asked Barrett if he wanted to do the testing before or after his treatment. Barrett said before the treatment, and Nana made their flight reservations.

Then Nana took Barrett to a horse race. She bought VIP passes, and they could watch the horse walk from the stables to the track before the race. Nana asked what horse he liked to win, and Barrett told her number four. When that horse won, Nana thought it was luck. Then Barrett picked the next four winners. Nana stopped betting after the last winner so as not to cause undue attention.

The next milestone was Barrett’s eleventh birthday, which lined up their trip to Switzerland. Madeline first took Barrett when he was six months old and has taken him every six months since then. On the flight, Nana gave Barrett a Japanese language program. Nana said they came last week, and we must return them when you’re done. So Barrett listened to the first four Japanese CDs, got up, stretched his legs, and napped. An hour after they finished dinner, they landed in Switzerland.

On the way to the hotel, Nana saw that the area advertised a hockey game for the next night. When they arrived and checked in, she asked the concierge for two premium tickets to the game. When they settled in the suite, Nana told Barrett about the hockey game. She told him it’s an exciting game to watch in person, and you’ll enjoy it. Nana told Barrett she didn’t know how long the testing would last, but they would have free time to shop and explore. Then they said goodnight and went to bed.

Doctor Andros welcomed Mrs. Thompson and Barrett, and then the nurse took him to the testing area. Doctor Andros said we’d made some exciting advances to the second stage. He asked Madeline how Barrett had responded to the last treatment. Madeline said the first day was rough, but after that, Barrett was fine. He went through a growth spurt and grew three inches, and his martial training is going extremely well, according to his Sensi. Barrett is taking full-time online college courses without a tutor and has eight classes this semester.

Doctor Andros asked about other improvements, and Madeline said he would have to ask Barrett about them. As you know, Doctor Andros, Barrett doesn’t talk about that, and Doctor Andros said I know. Today will be all-day testing. Tomorrow should be a half day. Then, I recommend starting Barrett’s treatments. That way, I can see him again when he’s fully recovered, and Madeline agreed.

When Barrett finished, he told Nana he needed a shower desperately. All I did was sweat, drink fluids, and pee. Water first, then Pedialyte, followed by a sports drink. After cleaning up, Nana and Barrett went to dinner and the hockey game. Nana was right. Barrett loved watching the game. He asked plenty of questions and was surprised at how fast the game was played. Back in the suite, they said goodnight and went to bed.

Doctor Andros greeted Mrs. Thompson and Barrett, then went to the testing center with a nurse. Doctor Andros told Madeline that yesterday, samples of Barrett’s sweat were being collected. It was important to use different liquids to see if they changed the level and effect. Today, we will put on small samples we collected yesterday and see if they affect females in our test group. It could be that Barrett has a personality that attracts females and is enhanced by his pheromones.

Barrett was done by lunch, so they stopped at a café and had lunch. Then they went shopping, and they both got the clothes they needed. They returned to the hotel, put their shopping bags in the suite, and then went to dinner. Barrett told Nana that he was looking for another business to start. Dog training was fun, but it was not what he wanted to do in the long term. I’ll keep doing it while finding something interesting and exciting that makes me money, and they laughed. Returning to the suite, they said goodnight and went to bed.

On the way to the Clinic, Barrett dreaded the next three days and wondered if it would be as bad as last time. Doctor Andros greeted them, and Barrett followed the nurse to the treatment room. The first treatment was different than the last time. Barrett felt lightheaded and had a numbing and tingling sensation all over his body. It was strange but not unpleasant. Doctor Andros told Barrett to stay over as a precaution, and little did he know what was in store for him.

In the middle of the night, Barrett was given a series of ejections. One in each leg, in each arm, his dick, chest, back, and then head. Barrett felt them but never fully woke up to see it done. But in the morning, he had to run to the bathroom, and what came out of him smelled terrible, and he had to flush four times. Even with the exhaust fan, it took forever to clear the air.

Barrett took a shower and felt better. He received breakfast, then the second treatment. The tingling and numbing sensations were stronger, but he didn’t feel lightheaded. Nana visited him in a bathrobe after the treatment. Nana said she went to the spa, but Barrett knew she was lying. He could easily read her thoughts and knew Nana was getting treatments, too. That didn’t bother Barrett at all and even made him feel good. She was doing everything to be there for him growing up.

In the middle of the night, Barrett got the injections again in the same area but in different places. The one exception was his dick, and that wasn’t injected again. The next morning’s results were the same but with much less volume. Whatever they gave him cleaned him out thoroughly. The last treat was a breeze, and he was allowed to return to the hotel suite with Nana. They ordered room service and then, after dinner, said goodnight and went to bed.

The next morning, Barrett felt fine, and Doctor Andros didn’t lie. The treatment wasn’t bad this time, and there were no side effects. For the four days, Barrett and Nana saw the sights and shopped. Then, the final checkup at the Clinic came, and Doctor Andros gave Barrett a clean bill of health. On the flight, Barrett finished the Japanese language program and completed his online coursework assignments.

When Nana and Berrett arrived home, Zeus was happy to see them, and Rosa said nothing had happened while they were gone. That was good news after all the turmoil with the girls and their parents. Nana and Berrett had eaten on the plane, so they said goodnight and went to bed.

They resumed their normal schedule the next day, and Berrett noticed he had more energy than before. Barrett found something interesting during a dog training session. The customer was Sherry Baldwin, who worked at home for an insurance company as an analytics expert on risk. She gave Barrett the overview of analytics and how they’re used in everything to some extent. The major industries that use it are insurance, banking, the stock market, the auto industry, gambling, and the government. The others were oil and gas, energy, trucking, and political campaigns.

Barrett thanked Sherry for her educational lesson, and we laughed. But he liked numbers, and it sounded interesting. Sherry also said he should look into being an actuary. While analytics looks for risk, actuaries are data scientists and work in a broader field. Now, Barrett needed to figure out how to make money doing it and if it was right for him.

Barrett’s senses improved from the last treatment and enhanced his mind-reading. Then, there were the physical improvements. His body tone was more defined and stronger, too. Barrett also noticed improvements in his reflexes and running speed. He’d have to be careful not to show too much progress to Sensi Hurato. That would make him suspicious of what Nana was doing to him.

The year passed quickly, and he was approaching his twelfth birthday. Nana and Barrett had returned from the last treatment over five months ago, and he experienced another growth spurt. Barrett was now 5’9” tall and weighed 165 lbs. His senses didn’t improve much after the last treatment. But he still saw physical improvements, and something new was happening to his brain. Barrett always had a great memory and a high IQ, but he seemed smarter and could recall things or process information faster.

Several other things happened. Barrett had earned enough college credits to be a Junior and also learned German, French, Arabic, and Farci. Cassday escaped from minimum security prison and was seen entering Mexico. Nana thought she was going to try to visit her parents and doubted she would ever return. Faced with the harsh reality of life, Callie, Chloe, Sadie, Sage, and Skylar seemed to turn their lives around. Nana offered to pay for college if they maintained a 3.0 grade average.

Nana had sold her children’s homes and possessions and put the money in their trusts. Barrett reduced his dog training to two days a week and raised his fee, hoping to ease his waiting list. It didn’t happen, but he had more free time. Then Nana told Barrett he needed a hobby to take his mind off school and dog training. Barrett consulted Sensi Hurato, recommending something physical that required him to work with his hands.

Barrett searched online, researched at the library, and decided to restore an old Harley Davidson motorcycle one of his customers had in the garage. The customer’s husband had attempted to restore it years ago but lost interest. It had been sitting disassembled in boxes in the garage. The customer practically gave it to him, and Nana regretted suggesting a hobby.

She said you could restore it but never ride it. I’ve lost several friends due to motorcycle accidents, and I don’t want to lose you. Barrett said don’t worry, Nana, he won’t ride it but will sell it when it’s finished. Barrett said he’d restore a car or truck next if he liked doing that work. Nana laughed inside and thought she had created another monster within Barrett.

Then the day came Barrett dreaded most, and he and Nana boarded the plane for Switzerland. The female airline attendants were friendly to Barrett, but Nana wasn’t worried. Because Doctor Andros had tested Barrett’s pheromones, they didn’t excite the female test group. Doctor Andros did say the test group found Barrett’s sweat pleasant-smelling and reported it had a citrus or sweet smell. But it didn’t excite them. The lab tests confirmed his findings.

What Doctor Andros failed to do was ask what excited Barrett about females. If he had Barrett’s favorite nurse wear something sexy, his tests would have turned out differently. He preferred a petite athletic form like his own, not one that was overly developed on top. Long legs, hair, and being pretty were a definite plus. That would have released his pheromones and aroused the entire test group.

Barrett had taken four more courses in automotive engineering at another online college. Barrett wanted to restore an old Hummer and convert it to an electric vehicle for his use. However, Barrett felt automobile manufacturers missed the boat when designing electric vehicles. He thought the failure to have solar panels on the roof and a small gas or diesel generator to recharge the batteries was an error.

They put more batteries in instead of designing an efficient recharging system. Also, depending on plug-in recharging, which was time-consuming and limited places to do it, made electric vehicles not appealing to most consumers. His idea was to design an efficient recharging system to reduce the number of batteries. That would make plug-in recharging an option instead of a necessity and reduce the cost.

So, during the flight, Barrett studied electric vehicle design and wiring. When dinner arrived, he put his laptop away and thought about what to tell Doctor Andros this visit while eating. Barrett never told Doctor Andros everything that happened to him. Mind reading was one of the things he kept private. Barrett told Doctor Andros everything else but not the full effects.
