Theresa---I am going to start my part of this tale at the beginning of the night I had almost been kidnapped. (Read “Big T).
I had caught my former boyfriend kissing another girl after the basketball game that night. We had broken up a couple of days before because I would not ‘put out’ for him. I am not on any kind of birth control, and I don’t trust condoms. There is a story known by everybody in my family, about how my great grandma Amy got pregnant in her freshman year at college by her black boyfriend. She had to drop out and had my grandma Barb, who grew up and married my grandpa Sean O’Shea. My father, Zulu O’Shea, was born as black as great grandma Amy’s college boyfriend! That’s how I got the O’Shea name.
I am ‘mixed race’ with a black momma and daddy and white grandparents. I live in a small town; everyone knows my family’s history. I never have to explain it. The fact is I love my skin color and my eyes! With my long straight black hair, I imagine I got that from the O’Shea’s Apache blood, I think I look ‘exotic’!
I was not going to ‘put out’ until I was on birth control. I also promised my mother I would be a virgin when I graduated high school.
I did not expect him to find another so fast! It pissed me off. Ruby was the school whore and would ‘put out’ if you bought her a hamburger and fries. My night only got worse!
Linda was my ride home that night. When I got in her car all she could talk about was how she was on the way to fuck her boyfriend, a guy who had graduated last year and was back in town for a few days.
I had enough!
I asked her to stop and let me out. I would walk home from here. This is a safe, small town and everybody knows me. I’m the Sheriff’s daughter for God’s sake.
I saw that strange van pull up ahead of me and stop. I sensed danger but I had no place to run. I decided to walk on by, Maybe they were lost and just checking a map.
Suddenly two men were on me trying to drag me into the van. I saw a man down the street going to his truck and I tried to scream for help, but a hand was clamped over my mouth. I was fighting for all I was worth because I remembered my Dad saying the best chance to escape a kidnapping is in the first few minutes, after that you are either drugged or tied and escape would be far more difficult. As I fought one of the men hit me on the jaw and I was knocked against the side of the van.
Suddenly a man appeared, he hit one guy and knocked him down, the other pulled a gun and shot my savior. It did not seem to faze him but made him madder! I saw him sling the guy into the side of the van, then grab him and twist his head around. The man on the ground pulled a knife as he was getting up. I screamed for my hero to “watch out”! He turned and kicked this guy so hard that he flew through the air. I could tell he was dead by the funny angle of his neck and his open, unblinking eyes. I hugged this brave warrior and held on to him as he called 911.
My dad arrived with my mother; I was trying to tell them what happened but was told to wait until we got to the Sheriff’s Office. At the office, momma went into the locker room and returned with a sweatshirt and sweatpants. I was told to change. She took my cheerleading outfit as evidence.
