Chapter 1

The Chukchi spoke only Luorawetlan language but for this story it will be all in English.

In the year 3000, humanity had mastered the art of time travel and had explored every corner of the timeline. One young man, named William Walker, had a particular fascination with the ancient world.

He had spent countless hours studying the civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Rome, but there was one place that always captivated him the Siberian nomads of 2400 BC. William had always been drawn to the harsh, unforgiving landscape of the Siberian tundra, where the nomads had thrived despite the extreme cold and the limited resources available to them. He longed to see the nomads’ way of life for himself, to experience their culture and their traditions.

One day, William’s wish was granted. He was given the opportunity to travel back in time to 2400 BC and live among the Siberian nomads. He eagerly accepted the chance, knowing that it would be the adventure of a lifetime.

The Snow Wolves were expert hunters and gatherers, and they had developed a unique way of life that allowed them to thrive in this unforgiving environment. They lived in tents made of animal hides and wooden frames, and they traveled constantly in search of food and resources. They were skilled in the use of weapons such as bows and spears, and they were also expert craftsmen, creating beautiful and intricate items from the resources they found in the tundra.

To build a Yaranga it consists of a wooden carcass covered with reindeer and seal skins. On average, it takes around 50 skins to build a Yaranga. The inside of a yaranga is divided into a heated living room and a pantry.

The door curtain is smoked before bedtime to scare away the insects, then the tent gets aired, and then heated again.

When he arrived in the past, William was struck by the vastness of the tundra and the endless expanse of the sky. The nomads were a hardy people, living in harmony with the land and the animals that roamed it. They welcomed William into their fold and taught him their ways, and he quickly learned to respect and appreciate their unique culture.

The snow-covered tundra stretched out endlessly, a vast expanse of white that seemed to swallow all sound.

The only signs of life were the two Chukchi women, their dark skin and fur-lined parkas a stark contrast to the surrounding whiteness. They had been searching for hours, their eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of movement.

And then, suddenly, they saw him. A lone figure, huddled in a ball, his body shivering with cold and exhaustion. They rushed towards him; their footsteps quiet in the snow.

“God bless you, ladies,” the man mumbled, his voice barely above a whisper. “I was starting to think I was going to freeze to death out here.”

As he struggled to his feet, the women rushed forward, helping him stand. Their warm fur enveloped him, and he felt a new surge of gratitude towards them. They led him over to the fire, where he warmed his hands and feet. The heat made him drowsy, and he leaned against one of the women, closing his eyes.

One of the women knelt beside him, her dark eyes studying his face. She reached out and gently brushed a lock of hair from his forehead. “My name is Gitinnevyt,” she said softly. “What is your name?”

William opened his eyes and smiled weakly. “My name is William Walker,” he replied. “Thank you for saving me.”

Gitinnevyt nodded, her expression solemn. “You are welcome here, William Walker. We will take care of you until you are strong enough to continue your journey.” She gestured to the other women around the fire. “This is my sister Gitingev and my parents Mother Gyrongav and Father Umqy. They have lived here for generations. We know the land well, and we will show you the way back to our settlement if that is where you wish to.”

William thought for a moment, taking in the woman’s words. He wasn’t sure he could bear the thought of being alone again, of facing the harsh reality of the wilderness. The warmth of the fire and the comfort of the furs were beginning to feel like home. “I would be honored to stay with you for a while,” he said finally. “To learn from you and to repay my debt in any way I can.”

Gitinnevyt’s eyes lit up at his words, and she smiled warmly. “That would be good,” she aid, her voice gentle. “You can help us with our chores, and we will teach you, our ways. Perhaps, when you are strong enough, you can even join us on a hunt. In the meantime, rest. We will prepare food for you.” As she spoke, she placed a hand on his shoulder, offering comfort and reassurance. the women helped him to his feet, their warm smiles and gentle words a balm to his frostbitten soul. They led him back to their camp, where they fed him hot soup, and wrapped him in warm fur.

William thought for a moment, taking in the woman’s words. He wasn’t sure he could bear the thought of being alone again, of facing the harsh reality of the wilderness.
