The playroom door opened, and the mood shifted like a held breath.

We stepped into the space, and even though I’d seen it before, something about entering it again—this time with Eva—made it feel brand new.

She slowed her steps the moment we crossed the threshold. Her eyes roamed over the room like she was trying to drink it all in at once.
