Jade woke first, with one of Kat’s arms draped over her. As gently as she could, she lifted Kat’s arm and slid off the bed. She padded into the bathroom, closed the door behind her and started the water for a shower. While waiting for the water to warm, she used the toilet and idly checked in with her lovers. She could feel both of them, lightly sleeping in the room next door. Once the water was warm enough, she stepped into the shower.

As she washed her torso, she thought back to something Kat had said two days ago, when she’d locked herself in the slave cell in their university apartment. Rhys had been annoyed at Kat for her impulsiveness, but Kat had told him, in no uncertain terms, how horny she was when he was around and had almost demanded that Rhys fucked her through the bars of the cell. Jade wouldn’t have been as forthright as Kat had been, but Kat had been right; Jade felt the same way most of the time. She wasn’t sure why she felt so attracted to Rhys; they’d professed their love for each other just over a day after meeting. Granted, Rhys had told her he loved her whilst almost drowning after their ship had sunk in a storm, but she knew that, while it may have been impulsive, it was also true. They’d found Kat just before that, and, thinking of it, it had taken both her and Rhys just a few days to fall in love with Kat, too, and for Kat to fall in love with them.

She thought back to the sex in their university apartment. From inside her cell, she’d watched Rhys shafting Kat, and Kat hardly lasted a minute before collapsing forward onto the tiny, thin mattress in the cell.

Jade put her hand onto her breast, cupping it, squeezing the flesh and rubbing her nipple with her thumb.

She’d watched Rhys turn to her and command her to kneel and clean his cock with her mouth. She’d sucked him clean, tasting Kat’s unique flavour as she did so. And then he’d spun her around in her cell, bent her over and shafted her in the same way.

She reached down with her other hand and cupped her pussy. She slipped two fingers between her labia and rubbed her clitoris with her thumb.

She remembered the raw, animalistic rutting that they’d shared. Rhys had just pounded in and out of her, no foreplay – none had been necessary as she had been as horny as hell – and then Rhys had erupted inside her. Their original connection had allowed her to feel Rhys ejaculating – she supposed he felt her orgasm too.

She was now squeezing her breast and rubbing her nipple as fast and hard as she could. Her other hand flew within her pussy. She remembered those moments after they’d both cum and he’d just walked away, as a master should. OK, he’d only gone to look for the keys to the cells, but he’d just used her and left. Sometimes she wanted foreplay, gentle sex and aftercare, but sometimes she just wanted him to take her. He wasn’t so keen on doing that, she knew that, but when he used her like she’d been used in the slave training centre, she loved it. She loved him, too.

As she thought of Rhys using her for his own pleasure, with the water streaming down her body, she came. It wasn’t the biggest orgasm she’d had, but it was probably the biggest orgasm she’d had by masturbating. She leaned against the wall of the shower, breathing heavily, trying to regain her composure. Eventually, her breathing slowed, and she began to wash herself again. Having finished, she turned the water off and reached for a towel. Drying herself, she was caught in two minds. She wanted, probably needed, Rhys to be more assertive when they made love, but, on the other hand, she didn’t want to push him to do things with which he was uncomfortable.

She brushed her teeth. They’d discussed her sexual desires before, but she needed to be clearer about what she required sometimes from sex. Not just sex, for that matter. Sometimes she needed him to dominate her even when sex was off the agenda. She’d loved him leading her and Kat around the university on the end of leashes. She’d loved showing her body off in those tight dresses and heels.

She dried her long hair with the towel, then curled it up on top of her head. She and Kat had discussed many things in the week or so they’d known each other, but an action plan was needed.

She emerged from the bathroom back into the bedroom. Kat and Rhys were awake now and sitting up in bed. Jade hadn’t shared her thoughts with them while she was in the shower, but they’d picked up on her emotions, including that she’d had an orgasm. They both looked at her as she walked across the room, a knowing look on both their faces. She ignored them and walked through the bedroom and into the dressing room with a haughty posture and a slight smile on her face.

Kat climbed out of bed and headed for the bathroom. She’d sat up in bed, next to Rhys, both “tuned in” to Jade’s emotions as she did whatever she had done in the bathroom. They’d both felt her orgasm and knew she’d been masturbating, though not what she was thinking. She also turned the shower on. The water was already warm from Jade’s shower, so she stepped straight in.

Sitting there, in bed next to Rhys, and feeling Jade getting herself “worked up” next door had also got Kat worked up. She’d already told Rhys that being close to him often made her horny, and she wished they’d done something sexual rather than sit there. She put her hand to her pussy and imagined her and Rhys, sitting in bed, Rhys fingering her, rubbing her clitoris, slipping fingers or a thumb inside her, whilst feeling Jade masturbating next door. Maybe leaning over to kiss her while he was doing that. Maybe lifting her and putting her on his lap, his chest to her back, fingering her with one hand and playing with her breasts with the other and nibbling her earlobe from behind and his soft breath in her ear. Leaning back against the wall of the shower cubicle, she rubbed her pussy like she’d imagined Rhys doing. It didn’t take much, not more than a dozen caresses of her clit, and she went over the edge. She managed to stay on her feet, propped up against the wall of the shower cubicle until she regained her breath.

Back in the bedroom, Rhys experienced his second vicarious female orgasm of the day, and he hadn’t got out of bed yet. Jade appeared in the door to the dressing room, half-dressed, wearing her underwear and a pull-on shirt. She grinned at him. “Do you need any help over there?” she asked. Rhys, still emotionally overloaded, just nodded.

Jade wandered over to the bed and pulled the blankets back. Rhys was naked after last night’s three-way session and just opened his legs. Jade climbed onto the bottom of the bed and crawled up it towards his groin. She lay down full length on her belly, propped up on her elbows, her face in front of his cock.

Kat burst out through the bathroom door. “I thought I felt you getting excited,” she chided Jade. “Don’t start that without me.” She hopped up on the bed and lay down on her stomach, her elbows by Rhys’s hip and her head over his groin. Rhys’s cock bobbed up, stiff from expectation as to what might be about to happen.

Both women worked their way up the bed, so they were face-to-face over Rhys’s groin. They kissed each other gently, pressing their lips together, but no more. Jade manoeuvred Rhys’s cock so its head was by their lips. Both women took a side of his cock into their mouths and moved up and down its length together, lubricating with their tongues, stimulating with their lips. Now and again, one of them would slide up and take the head of his cock into their mouths, swirling their tongue around before going back to caressing his shaft.

They switched the routine, Kat wanking him by hand while sucking gently on the head of his cock and teasing with her tongue; Jade fondling his balls. They alternated again, Jade working on his shaft, Kat on his balls, using their private channel in their connection to coordinate. They monitored Rhys’s emotions, sensing how close he was to orgasm and slowing down, keeping him simmering. They switched techniques again, Jade fondling his balls as she’d been trained, Kat wanking him with her hand, but now both had their mouths next to his cock’s head, both mouths open, both tongues out, waiting to catch his cum once the moment arrived.

Their goal had now switched from arousing him to guiding him to orgasm. They stuck to their mutually agreed-upon tasks, and it didn’t take long for them to succeed. Rhys groaned and tried to warn them that he was about to cum, but they already knew. Kat’s aim was slightly off, and the first shot of sperm hit her in the face. She pulled back in surprise, and Jade quickly moved in to catch the rest of his cum in her mouth. Once Rhys had finished spurting, Jade drew back, tongue out, showing Rhys her prize of his cum in her mouth. Kat, meanwhile, had moved in for the clean-up, taking the head of his cock into her mouth and licking it clean.

Once Kat had finished her duties, Jade took hold of her head, tilted it back and dribbled some of Rhys’s cum into her open mouth. Kat groaned in pleasure, causing Jade to smile. They both swallowed, then Jade released Kat’s head. She scooped the cum off Kat’s face with her fingers, finishing the job by licking Kat’s face. She moved across to Tyra, still curled in her trunk, and offered her the cum on her fingers. Tyra sucked Jade’s fingers clean and smiled in thanks.

Rhys went to have his morning shower, but Jade and Kat insisted on helping, Jade shedding what few clothes she’d donned on her way back to the bathroom. They were all over him, soaping him with their hands and bodies, making sure every part of him was squeaky clean. Jade stood behind him and washed his hair, giving him her most sensual head massage as she went. Kat made sure his face was clean, washing it with the corner of a flannel in small, circular motions, standing on her tiptoes so her face was almost level with his. They rinsed him down, then moved lower on his body. Kat washed his chest, kissing and licking his nipples and playing with the short, fluffy hair that grew over his breastbone; Jade washed his neck and back, giving him a standing massage as she soaped him. Then they took an arm each, soaping him, feeling the muscles of his upper arm.

They moved below his waist. Jade washed his butt, parting his cheeks and washing deep between them. She rinsed him, then stuck her face and rimmed him, sticking her tongue past his sphincter and wiggling it around. Rhys had never had anyone do that; in fact, no one, including himself, had ever been past his butt sphincter. It was strange; he felt that he was being violated in some way, even though it was being done with all the love in the world, yet it was really pleasurable. In the meantime, Kat was paying attention to his groin. She was soaping away at his balls while “washing” his cock with her mouth and throat. He had to prise her off - his cock was still recovering from the earlier blowjob – so she washed him more normally, although with exquisite attention to detail. They moved again, this time taking a leg each and washing with equal intensity. They washed the underside of his feet, although fortunately not at the same time, between his toes and up and down his legs.

Finally and now completely clean, the two women rinsed Rhys down for a final time and then squeegeed the water off him with their hands. Jade led him out of the shower and stood him on a fluffy bath mat before they both descended on him with towels. They dried every part of him, then released him to clean his teeth on his own before they headed out of the bathroom.

Several minutes later, Rhys emerged from the bathroom and saw Jade and Kat lying on their sides, naked on the bed, chatting. Jade looked at him, and Kat rolled over to do the same.

“Did you have any plans for the day?” Kat asked.

“No, not really,” Rhys replied. “I have to go to the university tomorrow morning for the induction sessions for the School of Humanities, but today is free.”

“Do you mind,” asked Jade, “if we stay in the house today? The healer is coming to look at Tyra this morning, and Kat would like to do some more reading before they arrive. I have letters to write, and Anderton is due this afternoon to start work in the playroom; both Kat and I would like to go through the plans with him.”

“It looks like it might be a dry day,” added Kat, “so I thought we could spend some time sitting out in the garden. We haven’t really been out there since we moved in.”

Rhys looked a little sheepish. “I also need to write to my mum,” he said. “I promised I would as soon as I got here, and we’ve been so busy that it slipped my mind. I’m happy with a day around the house, too.”

The breakfast bell rang to summon them downstairs, and all three hurriedly got dressed.

Breakfast was, again, one of Mrs Shaw’s healthier options and was waiting for them in the orangery. This time it was yoghurt with a selection of dried fruit and a flask of hot water to make tea. Kat looked at it suspiciously – she hadn’t made it to lunchtime on yesterday’s breakfast of nuts, seeds and grains before wanting a snack. Nevertheless, she made tea for all of them, as was her wont, then helped herself to a bowl of fruit and yoghurt.

They sat next to each other on the sofa, mugs of tea resting on the low table in front of them, bowls of food on their laps, eating slowly and looking out through the large windows onto the garden. There were light clouds in the sky, with the sun breaking through from time to time. The last week had been intense, as they got to know each other, moved into this house, enrolled Rhys at university, met new people, and, for Kat and Rhys, adjusted to being free and independent young people. If today was to be “downtime”, it was well deserved, and they’d all enjoy it.

Breakfast completed, they split up. Jade and Kat headed to the study, Jade to write her letters and Kat to see what she could find in her healer’s book about conditions like Tyra’s.

Rhys went upstairs to check on Tyra. He opened her trunk and, as he expected, he found her lying on her side, curled up in the foetal position. She looked up at him as he looked in. He only had a working knowledge of Rovinari, so he just asked her, “Do you need food? Drink?”

“Vana, behak,” she whispered. “Water, please,” in Rovinari

Rhys reached into the trunk to lift her out. After all, a healer was due today, and it would be easier if Tyra were on the bed rather than in the trunk. He was surprised to find that, unlike the previous day, it was reasonably easy for him to lift her out of the trunk. He carried her to the bed, laid her down, then went into the bathroom and grabbed the glass they used to rinse their mouths after brushing their teeth. He ran the water for a moment, filled the glass and took it back to Tyra. He helped her to sit upright on the bed before holding the glass of water up to her lips. She put her hands up to hold it herself. She drank slowly. When she’d finished, she leaned forward and planted a tiny kiss on the end of Rhys’s nose. “Tack zo,” she whispered.

Rhys was astonished. He hadn’t interacted with her as much as Jade had, as she spoke better Rovinari, but that was the first time he’d known her to do anything except be passive. A kiss on the nose wasn’t much, but it was something. “Varsagud,” he whispered back. “You’re welcome” in Rovinari.

He lowered her back to lie on the bed before returning to the study. Jade was sitting at the desk, writing, and Kat was in the leather armchair by the fireplace, her healer’s book on her lap, reading intently. Her face was scrunched up in concentration, and he could see her lips move from time to time as she absorbed the information. He wondered briefly whether the book used technical terms and, if so, how she was coping with them.

There was a steady stream of knocks at the front door, which Clara answered. He could hear voices, even though the study door was closed, sometimes followed by steps from multiple bodies in the hallway and, sometimes, on the stairs. They were certainly getting a lot of deliveries. Kat glanced up from her book at every knock, wondering if it was the healer coming to look at Tyra, before settling back to her book when it wasn’t.

Rhys realised that, of the three books he’d been given, there was one that he’d read a little of, there was the one he couldn’t read but Kat could, and there was the third one that he hadn’t looked at. He walked over to the bookshelf and pulled the book down, then took it over to a chair in the corner and sat. He looked at the title: “A Magical Anthology”, then opened the book and, unlike the first book, he found he could read it all.

The foreword explained that, like Kat’s healer’s book, this was a collection of articles written by different experts on subjects that didn’t form part of mainstream magic, whatever that meant. Looking down the contents page, the list of articles was varied. Some chapters were about ancient magic, some about subtle magic, some about passive magic. The thing they all had in common was that they were apparently out of fashion. Modern magic appeared to concentrate on things that had an instant effect and, preferably, made the person wielding the magic look impressive.

His eyes were drawn to an article about defensive magic. He knew his ring could compensate for his lack of knowledge of how to invoke his own magic; all he had to do was push a thought to the ring, and it would do the necessary to make it happen. He didn’t know how it worked. All that mattered was that it did work. However, the ring still seemed to require him to ask it to do something, and if he were attacked, either physically or magically, he might not have time to do so. The thought of defending himself automatically and, especially, the idea of protecting Jade and Kat the same way, was very, very appealing. His experience of school at home in Solvstrom was that pranks were common. It had been a thought that he’d been aware of at the edges of his consciousness that if the same were true at university, pranks could end up going very badly in a building full of magic.

The article referenced other works that he’d have to find. If they weren’t elsewhere in this book or in the other one he’d been given, he’d have to look them up in the university library. However, a theme was emerging from the article – that the defensive magic that kicked in on its own was ancient “earth” magic, relying heavily on the use of high-quality crystals and stones. Some of Rhys’s neighbours at home in Solvstrom had collections of crystals, often bought from passing traders who made all sorts of fanciful claims for them. Rhys had long thought that these claims were nonsense, not least because no two traders made the same claims for the same rocks. However, this article clearly stated that some stones or crystals could be helpful under the right circumstances. It was something that he was keen to follow up on.

Jade had finished her letters and was placing them in the secure message cylinders. Rhys took her place at the writing desk. He quickly dashed off a letter asking for more information about the cabins he’d seen advertised in the magazine at Mrs Mather’s shop, then started on a letter to his mum.

It wasn’t until he started to write the letter that the question of precisely what he should tell his mum about his life in Chatamor arose. She knew the Minshull Foundation had covered his expenses and tuition, so it was safe to mention. But that he was living with, and was sexually intimate with, two women in a grand townhouse with its own staff?

He settled on writing that he’d met a representative of the Foundation in Roligvan, and they’d accompanied him to Chatamor, where the representative was staying with them while he got used to living in Reiland. He also wrote that he’d met a woman on the ship and they were friends and “seeing each other.” Both were true, if not more than a little misleading, so his conscience was clear. He also wrote about enrolling at the university, mentioning how busy Chatamor was, having made contact with the Foundation, and having enough money.

Rhys had a thought. “Does anyone mind if I invite my mum to come and see us?” he asked. He was acutely aware that neither Jade’s nor Kat’s mums could come and visit them, but they’d get to meet his mum at some point, so why not sooner rather than later? Both Kat and Jade seemed enthusiastic, so he included the invitation in his letter, along with his new address.

He slipped both messages into cylinders, sealed them, wrote an address on each and put them next to the cylinders that Jade had written earlier. He went to look for Clara to ask her to arrange for the cylinders to be taken to the courier office, before returning to the study and the book he’d been reading earlier.

Jade was examining the other books on the shelves, looking for something interesting to read. She made little noises as she worked her way around the shelves, “mmm” for books she liked the sound of, “nn-nn” for ones she’d discounted and the occasional “oooh”. Eventually, she settled on a book, took it down from the shelf and made her way over to the chair that Rhys had earlier vacated. She sat and started to read.

Rhys looked up from his book and looked at her. She noticed and looked back at him. “It’s a concise history of Reiland,” she said. “I like old history books. They obviously do not contain the latest research findings, but they do reveal how history was understood at the time they were written. Modern books tend to be more affected by the author’s own personal or political views, or they’re written with a view to sales rather than accuracy. Modern history books also often rely on earlier works for much of their content. Hardly anyone bothers to go back to the sources these days. Modern history is just like a house of cards.”

Not for the first time, Rhys wondered about Jade’s background. She’d talked to them about her training as a pleasure slave, and after she’d “graduated” from there, up until the time the Minshull Foundation had bought her. She never talked about her life before she was captured, though.

“Did you study history at school before you were a slave?” he asked as an opening gambit. Jade glanced up from her book and looked across at him; he could sense her sadness and a hint of amusement across their connection.

“I did learn history,” she said. “But not this type of history.” She held the book up for emphasis and then continued reading it. Rhys continued to look at her until she raised her head from the book and looked at him again. It didn’t need any communication, either verbal or mental, for her to know what the follow-up question was that he wasn’t asking.

“I know I’ve not told you anything about my life before I was captured and sent for pleasure slave training,” she said. Kat looked up from her book, too. “There are two reasons for that,” Jade continued.

“Firstly, I’m not the immature girl I was back then. The slave training itself changed me, but the experiences I had during the training and, especially, since then have changed me more. I’ve seen the world, and I’ve witnessed its cruelty as well as its kindness and love; it has had a profound impact on me. I carry that girl’s knowledge and experience within me, but she is no longer me, if you know what I mean? I’m not going to pretend I had a hard childhood; quite the opposite, in fact, but it was a sheltered upbringing. I think it’s probably fair to say that I was a brat. Both of you,” she looked at Rhys and Kat, “would find it hard to be with her, let alone to love her.”

“You can’t know that,” said Rhys.

“You’re right, of course,” replied Jade, “but I don’t like or love her, so it’s a fair bet that you wouldn’t. I don’t hate her either; she was me. She just isn’t now. I want you to love the person you see before you.”

“The second reason is that if you knew who I was, it would affect the relationship that both of you have with me. You’ll treat me differently.” Rhys looked at her steadily, and she knew what he was thinking, even though she didn’t have access to his actual thoughts. “You will find out eventually. I hope you find out from me, but maybe circumstances will reveal the information. Please don’t judge me for holding this back from both of you, and please, when you do find out who I was, remember that I’m no longer that girl. I’m Jade, the woman you see in front of you, and I’m Jade because I choose to be Jade.”

She’d been getting emotional throughout that final speech and was now almost crying. Rhys moved across to her and hugged her. Kat arrived fractions of a second later and joined in. No words were needed; both Rhys and Kat accepted what she’d said. Whatever she wasn’t telling them, it was out of love.

No one felt like going back to their books after that, so they carefully put them away. Just as they’d finished, Clara knocked on the study door. She opened it and stepped in. “Begging your pardon,” she said, “there’s someone here to see your visitor.” Kat sprinted through the door and into the entrance hall. An older woman stood there with a briefcase in her hand. She had a tall, narrow face with prominent cheekbones, short black hair, and bright eyes. Unusually for a woman in Reiland, she wore a button-up shirt and trousers with flat lace-up shoes; the tradition in Reiland appeared to be that women wore skirts, or sometimes leggings.

Kat held her hand out. “I’m Katarina Wildwood,” she announced. “How may I help you?”

The woman in the doorway raised her eyebrows for a moment before answering. “My name is Olan Skogfjell,” she said. “I’m a healer and I’ve been asked to look at a woman who is staying here.”

“Of course,” Kat said. “Please come in, and I’ll take you to her.”

Olan stepped into the house and Kat closed the door behind her. Jade and Rhys had come out of the study, had thanked Clara and now stood at the base of the staircase. Kat introduced them to Olan, “This is Jade Niain, and this is Rhys Niain. They’re not relatives, despite the surname. The three of us are a family unit.”

Olan nodded greetings to Jade and Rhys, eyebrows raised again. “Can I see the patient, please?” she asked.

Kat led them upstairs and into the main bedroom. Tyra was lying on the bed as Rhys had left her, curled up as usual. Kat told the story of how they’d found her and rescued her, bringing her to this house; Olan grimaced and shook her head at the appropriate points. “She was dehydrated and hungry when we found her,” Kat explained. “I couldn’t see anything wrong with her body, but her mind seems...” she hesitated, looking for the right words, “to have been altered. She’s barely aware of her surroundings most of the time, except when she’s trying to get human sperm. She seems to be addicted to it and, when we found her, she got extremely animated until she got it.”

Olan nodded to Kat, then put her hand on Tyra’s arm and closed her eyes. She stayed still and silent for a couple of minutes, then took her arm from Tyra and opened her eyes.

“You said your name was Wildwood,” she said to Kat. “Any relation to...”

“Cadellin Wildwood is my great-great-grandfather,” Kat interrupted.

“Is?” said Olan, tilting her head in question.

“Well, I guess more ‘was’,” Kat replied. “But I feel like he’s in my head, so I do think of him as still being with me.” It was a half-truth, but Kat didn’t want to have to explain their trips to the magical plane. “I’ve only just found that I can read people’s health in the last week or so, so I’m very new to it all, and I’m muddling through. I do know that Tyra is way out of my league, though, so our friends called for you.”

Olan nodded. “If you’re related to Cadellin Wildwood, that would explain how you got to your diagnosis, which is, I think, basically correct. It’s quite remarkable for someone who only found their talent so recently. Tyra has, indeed, had her mind altered. I can see that she’s gone through a lot of conditioning, but that’s been augmented by suppressions and impulsions.”

Kat looked confused, so Olan continued. “Conditioning is when someone goes through a physical process to change their behaviour. It’s commonly called ‘brainwashing’, but that’s inaccurate. It can only get you so far, though. Tyra’s brain also has had magic added to it to prevent her from doing some things – suppressions - and to force her into doing others - impulsions. Frankly, it’s quicker, cheaper and, usually, more successful than a long conditioning programme. Whoever added that magic will have done it to others. They’re deviant and need to be stopped.

“Can that magic be removed? Yes, if someone has more power than the person who put the magic there in the first place. What will it do to her mind if the magic is removed? That’s the harder question. Just ripping the magic out may even kill her. It will take a lot of work to unpick all the various parts and map the dependencies.”
