Sylvia narrowed her eyes, a hint of disappointment lacing her words as she asked her son Peter the question that had been weighing on both her and her husband’s minds for far too long. “When are you going to bring a girl home? You’re 18 years old, Peter. It’s time.”
Peter shifted uncomfortably in his seat, trying to avoid their piercing gazes. His palms grew clammy as he desperately searched for an escape from this conversation.
“Not now, Mom. Maybe in the future,” he muttered weakly.
His father, Mike, leaned forward, his expression grave. “Peter, do you even like girls?”
The sudden shift in tone caught Peter off guard, causing his head to snap up in alarm. “What kind of question is that?” He exclaimed, incredulous.
“We just want to understand you, son,” Sylvia chimed in, concern etched in every line of her face.
“I like girls!” Peter insisted, desperation creeping into his voice.
“Then why haven’t you ever mentioned any? Are you shy?” Mike probed further.
Peter wanted to scream at them to stop, to leave him alone. But they were only trying to help ... they thought.
“I am not shy,” he replied through gritted teeth, now barely containing his anger.
“Maybe you just need some pointers on how to relate to girls,” Mike offered confidently.
That was the last straw for Peter. The words flew out of his mouth before he could even think about them. “Why would I take relationship advice from a cuckold like you?” His voice trembled with rage and betrayal as he stormed out of the room, leaving his stunned parents behind.
Peter’s life had been completely normal until a few months ago - balancing school, work, and trying to impress girls. But on this particular day, everything changed. Peter showed up to work feeling ill, only to be sent home by Mr. Collins, his boss, in fear of spreading the sickness to other employees.
