Roan’s face tightened up in indignation. Spinning around, he scowled up at a voluptuous green Draago.

“Why the fuck would I come see you after you broke up with me two hours before I had to leave on mission?” he snarled. “You even bit me!”

Her mouth popped open with a hurt little gasp. “But Roan, jou alvays come to find me after a mission, no matter how many times ve break up! I vere vaiting...”

He recoiled from her attempt to hug him. “Well, maybe it’s been one time too many, Shidu” he shot back, his muscles bunched like rocks. “Ever think I might be sick of it? I am only human, as you like to point out.”

Her brows drew tight together before her yellow eyes with their slitted pupils flicked up and locked on Cylthan pressed against the tree like she might be able to vanish into it. The Draago’s brows popped up as realization lit a bulb. A sly and knowing smile did not help her seem friendlier.

“Oooh, vell hello zere,” she cooed just as sweet as could be. “Jou must be new.”

Looking up at the gorgeous woman just over two hundred centimeters tall, Cylthan was not blind to the similarities the green Draago shared with elves. Only a few forest green scales elegantly speckled her cheeks and around the borders of her flawless face near her hairline. Spiraling ebony horns curled through her black, wavy hair and around her tall, pointed ears like a ram. Though such a vibrant yellow was just about unheard of among elves, her eyes were the same slanted almond shape. The casual outfit that gently hugged her hourglass curves hid the scales covering the rest of her, but not the leathery, emerald wings relaxed against her back.

Swallowing hard, Cylthan struggled with the jealousy that was seeping into her. Why did she even care? If Roan had someone else, maybe he wouldn’t use her. Yet, the very thought filled her chest with a hot whirlwind of emotions she wasn’t used to, and she wanted nothing more than for this woman to go away.

“Oh, um, h-hi,” she managed to stammer out, barely loud enough to hear, and lifted her hand in an awkward wave. “Um, I’m, uh, I’m Cylthan.”

A brow cocked, her head tilting with curiosity. “Iz jou not a Seeker...?”

“She’s my prisoner,” Roan interrupted with an irritated snap.

Was that all he saw her as? He said it with such conviction– a finality that didn’t sound so much like an explanation to her presence as a statement of fact. After how he had treated her today, the weight of those words suddenly felt so crushing.

Freezing with the cold rejection that shot through her, Cylthan shrank down and rubbed her arm, looking at her feet. “Uh, ye-yeah, I ... guess.”

“Prisoner!?” Shidu repeated loudly. Her gaze flicked over Cylthan before a dry, incredulous laugh bubbled forth and her neck elongated, her face getting uncomfortably close. “And tell me, darling little elf, vhat could jou possibly ‘ave done to get into trouble? Did jou make fun of Roan’s rat?”

Before Cylthan could answer, Roan spoke for her. “She stole my horse and that’s all you need to know.”

Glaring back at him again, Shidu’s eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Oh? Iz zat right? Zat’s all?

Roan’s nose wrinkled in irritation. “I don’t want you involved in this right now, Shidu,” he warned low and stern. “Just let it go.”

Staring at him with a tight and sour expression as she thought on it, her neck retracted back to a normal length and she locked a chiding glare on him. “She’s t’in. Jou feed her yet?”

His eyes rolled back with his head and a groan. “We just came from the cafeteria!”

Glancing over Cylthan again, she shook her head with a sneer. “She’s filt’y. Jou not wash her?”

Groaning again, his head went the other way to put his face in his hand and muttered, “We only got back yesterday. I’m taking her to the bathhouse next.”

Fixing him with an unconvinced stare, she nodded slow and patronizing. “Riiight. And how vill she get clean vit’ jour filt’y hands all over?”

Roan pressed his lips and did his absolute best to keep a straight face. “You always clean up fine.”

A grin that quite literally stretched to her ears showed her true heritage in a long glittering line of dragon’s teeth. “Only after I kick jou out!”

Looking Cylthan over again, her smile faded to a little thing that didn’t seem entirely convinced. “Stole your horse? Zat’s all?” Her neck stretched up to see his horse in the field and tilted her head. “Zat one?”

Roan shook his head again, his face unreadable. “Don’t get involved.”

Narrowing her eyes, her snarling face was inches from his in a blink while thick inky smoke poured out between her bared teeth and the air shimmered with heat. “I’m involved now. Deal vit’ it.”

Brows threading together sternly, he put his hand on her face and pushed her back without concern. “I don’t want you involved right now.”

Growling, she retracted her neck and put her hands on her hips. Then her eyes lidded and she peered at the curved claws on her partially-scaled hand in a bored manner. “Fine. I vill just ask Tyrox.”

Roan’s jaw dropped a little, and he raised his hands palms up, shaking his head like he couldn’t believe her. “Don’t bring your brother into this! He didn’t even want to vote!”

Shidu’s brows popped up, and the corners of her lips curled slyly as though pulled up with them on invisible strings. “Oh, so it vere serious enough for a vote?” Roan groaned, face in hand, when he realized he had slipped. “Zat’s a bit more zen a horse.”

Clenching his fists like his jaw, he shook his head again. “Let it go, Shidu. I’m still angry at you. Can you give me time to want to talk to you?”

Tilting her head back to glare down at him narrowly, she sucked in her breath and gave him a sweet smile. “Okay, Roan. I’m happy for jou.” Stepping close, she caressed the side of his face, her tail wrapping around his leg while her hot breath against his ear caused bumps on his skin. “I’ll alvays be around for jou, love.”

Looking up at Cylthan, she smirked with a less than sincere cordiality. “I vill see jou around, Zylt’an.”

Knowing that he was watching her, she rocked her hips seductively as she sauntered away, her tail swishing in invitation. Roan shook his head with inner dialogue while glaring after her in angry admiration.

Feeling awkward and unsettled, Cylthan tried to swallow the lump from her throat and hesitantly filled the tense silence with the first thing she could think even though she was sure she knew the answer. “Um, i-is she a friend?”

Sucking in his breath, Roan took a moment to respond, nodding slowly. “Yeah. Yeah, she is.” He paused before adding with some uncertainty, “usually. Sometimes, I wonder. Like now.”

A small “oh,” left her when he muttered under his breath like he didn’t expect her to hear, “don’t be that happy about it.”

Blinking in confusion for just a second, she realized he must have said it to the presence in his head. “Does ... Silver Eye not like her?”

Pressing his lips together realizing that she had, he swiped his head side to side and replied like he was somewhere else. “The first time they met, she tried to eat him because she didn’t know he was me. We always go to her room because she hates the fur everywhere.”

Why did that make her feel so awful? “Oh, that’s ... W-Well, maybe there wouldn’t be fur everywhere if ... he got brushed more,” she replied just barely above a whisper.

Setting his sights on her, the troubled lines on his face melted away to a sly smirk. “That sounds like you’re volunteering.”

“Oh, uhhh...” Hesitating a second with the memory of his threat in the woods, she thought to herself that the longer he was changed into the rat, the less she had to deal with him as the person. The rat wasn’t going to hurt her. As Roan had said, Silver Eye wanted to protect her. The longer she could convince him to hold Roan at bay, the better. The thought brought a sweet little smile to her lips and a coy shrug. “I mean, I wouldn’t mind.”

Nodding his head with a narrow, knowing look as though he could hear her thought, he stepped closer, trapping her against the tree. “Maybe I’ll let you. I can’t keep him locked away for much longer. His friends have been waiting.”

When he looked above them in the tree, she followed his gaze and noticed three rats from the morning tucked in the branches and grooming themselves. It brought a gasp from her.

“I never noticed them!”

“That’s the point,” Roan said with a hint of pride. “They follow me everywhere but the cafeteria, and even then, sometimes they slip in.” Smiling deviously, he jerked his head for her to follow. “They can follow us to the bathhouse–” pressing his body against her, his rough, smokey voice was hot against her ear– “so I can slip into you.”

She hated so much how that made her whole body feel unbearably hot and needy. When he stepped back with that smug look at her hitched breath and turned to lead the way, she swallowed hard and hung her head. She’d come to know that look in his eyes by now. He was hungry and it wasn’t for food. As she followed after him, a pit of dread and desire swirled around in her belly. She almost wished that Draago lady would come back just to distract him.

Glancing around, she noticed they were in a new part of the castle, but it wasn’t very far from the stables. The verdant, mossy path led them towards a large, quirky building. The main building was made of wood and stood several stories over a multitude of rooms scattered all around it into the hillside. Some walls were made of smooth stacked river stone while others were stone from the earth raised up in solid sheets with magic. The humidity in the air was growing quickly along with the sounds of water, and she could see steam rising from many open vents and pipes in the differently slanted roofs, as though each section had been built on later.

Through the wide doorway that had no doors was an open and carpeted lobby area. Right in the middle was an aquarium that fed a waterfall gently tumbling down stacked rocks. Several people milled about, dressed in luxurious silk robes and lounging on the couches surrounded by lush potted plants.

A dark haired woman looked up from behind the counter and smiled sweetly. “Hi, Roan! How did your mission go?” Her eyes lit up upon realizing that Cylthan was actually following him and she gasped in excitement, leaning over the counter. “Who’s your friend?”

Holding his head high like he had something to be proud of, he introduced them. “Mel, this is Cylthan. Cylthan, this is Melania. She’s one of the groomers here.”

Cylthan mumbled a greeting but her voice stopped when the woman reached out and took one of her hands, inspecting her nails.

“Not the worst I’ve seen,” Mel stated before looking up at her hair and giving a smile. “But, I do love a challenge! Cylthan, was it? Come along, dear! Let’s get you cleaned up.”

Taken to a small room, she was made to undress again. Mel eyed her with a little wrinkle just like Alistar had. “Oh, you poor thing. Have you even eaten since you’ve been here?”

Blushing, she pressed her lips together as she remembered his words from earlier. “Um, yeah. We, uh, ate this morning.”

Not entirely convinced, Mel let it go and folded her clothes into a box. Once dressed in a silk robe, she was led to a room where Roan already lounged, his nails being tended by a couple of barely clothed women while another massaged his shoulders. The moment she was pushed into the room, his eyes were just about glued to her, watching her with a pleased smirk.

Another woman knelt before Cylthan and had to convince her to relax enough to allow her feet to be washed. No amount of stammering or uncomfortable shifting stopped the small team that seemed to appear from nowhere from scrubbing, washing, clipping, and massaging.

Once the talkative, homely lady who fixed her hair was done, she turned to Roan with a big, sweet smile, holding up a straight blade. “A clean shave like usual, Roan, darlin’?”

Still watching Cylthan closely, he saw her eyes widen and snap up to him like the idea had never even occurred to her. When she blushed and looked away, he smiled and shook his head. “I’ll try something new. Just make it neat.”

She didn’t get to watch the process. The ladies pushed her head back to clean her hair, spreading a sweet smelling oil through her strands before wrapping her hair in a towel. All the while, they chatted and made comments about the unique color of her hair, how it sparkled and even how it would look cute if it was longer.
