My heart finally settled when we entered the hospital ER to the sound of Olivia’s voice yelling. “Absolutely not! I don’t care what the reason is, I’m not spending the night here in this room! You can forget that right now!”
I looked first at my mom and then at Kelli and we all three laughed as the stress bled off of us. “Well, if she’s awake and being all Princess Olivia, then everything’s going to be okay, isn’t it?”
Mom put her hand on my arm. “You’d better go calm her down before she hurts herself worse than Bennett did. You know how she gets when she’s worked up.”
I nod and step up to the nurse at the triage window. “Hi there, that’s my sister, causing all the noise. I’m her medical power of attorney. If you let me back, I can get her calmed down so they can treat her and everyone else.”
“Thank God, she’s been hell on wheels since she woke up. I mean, I think she’s scared, but we can’t help her with her so out of control. You wouldn’t be Myles, would you? She keeps telling us to get Myles that he’ll fix everything.”
I laughed. “That’s me, Magic Myles Radcliff, fixer of everything wrong in a ladies’ world.”
The nurse gave me a look over and bit her lower lip. “If I gave you my number, you think you might be able to ‘fix’ my world later?”
I smiled and winked. “Tell you what, see that short little red head over there with my family. Her name is McKenzie. You give her your number and she’ll let you know when I or we can fix everything for you. She keeps those things straight for me.”
The nurse blushed and buzzed me back. Olivia was still ranting and raving and telling them to find me so I could fix everything. I stepped through the door to her room. “Olivia, Stop and be quiet. You’re upsetting the other patients and making it hard for anyone to get the help they need yourself included.”
Her mouth instantly closed, and she ran to me. “Myles!”
I opened my arms and wrapped them around her. She wrapped her whole body around me and burst into sobs.
I held her and stroked her hair. “Shh now Livy Bear. It’s going to be alright. I’ve got you and you belong to me now. I’m never giving you back. You’re safe and I’ll never let anyone hurt you again. Just let it all out and rest. I’ve got you, my Livy bear. Your mine you understand?”
She nuzzled up into the crook of my neck as I moved us onto the hospital bed, holding her tight. Not caring who is was watching. “Yes Myles. Understand I belong to you now and forever.”
“That’s right Livy Bear now and forever.”
The older man standing in the corner holding Olivia’s chart cleared his throat. “Well, I think it’s safe to say you aren’t ‘the stairs’ Olivia has been falling down for the past nine months.”
I jerked at that. My eyes going steel hard in a second, if the faces of the doctor and nurse were any sign. “Nine Months!” I looked down at Olivia. “What happened to no secrets between us, Livy Bear? I’d have saved you the first time he even threatened to hurt you if I’d known.” I turned to the doctor. “No sir, I am not. Let’s just say for plausible deniability later that I’m the hydraulic jackhammer that’s about to fix those stairs for good.”
“I think that works for me. Especially since my patient is obviously feeling safe and secure with you.”
I just kept stroking her hair. “I’m Myles Fountaine Radcliff. Olivia’s medical power of attorney, CEO of Radcliff Enterprises, and head of the Radcliff family trust. Here’s a copy of my POA.”
I handed the doctor the file Gerald had given me as I’d entered the hospital. “As you can see, there are a few copies of a standard NDA in there. I need everyone who has seen Olivia today to read and sign one before we leave. I’ll also need copies of all the reports of other incidents of those encounters in the last nine months when she ‘fell down the stairs’ for her divorce lawyer’s records. I looked at the two women in black standing in opposite corners of the room. Which one of you is Lilly and which is Amber?”
