Chapter 22

Erotica Sex Story: Chapter 22 - The award-winning story of Don Campbell and Lanh Nguyen continues as Don and Lanh marry and celebrate their love with friends and family, then it's off to tour the world with the United States Air Force. Don is first sent to Germany, where Lanh panics over the loss of friends and family, but their love carries them through, and they head home with joyful news. Their angels continue to follow them.

Every Saturday, every Sunday since that horrible day when Don reported to Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, Lanh waited for a phone call. It wasn’t fair that his first assignment out of technical school was overseas, but there were manning issues in Europe and Don, being a distinguished graduate from technical training, was chosen to go. Luckily, there was what Don called “morale calls” through MARS, the Military Affiliate Radio System. These calls were annoying. Sometimes you could barely hear the other person, but they had five minutes together, and that sometimes made all the difference in the world. The fact there were at least two radio operators listening along with anyone with a shortwave radio didn’t bother Don and Lanh, just as long as they could hear each other’s voice for a few brief minutes.

Lanh waited in the dining room of the Campbell family farmhouse along with Kim-ly, who had made coffee and massaged Lanh’s shoulders to help to keep her awake. Finally, after midnight, the phone rang...

“Good morning, is this Lanh?”

“Yes, it is. Good morning, Rudy, how’s the propagation tonight?” As Lanh spoke on the phone, Kim-ly gave her a kiss on the cheek and wandered off to give Lanh privacy.

“It’s much better than last Sunday, that’s for sure, are you ready?”

Lanh gave a sigh of relief. Radio propagation was horrible last weekend, she could barely hear Don through the squealing and static of the shortwave radio. “Let’s do it,” she said. These calls were a godsend for GIs stationed overseas, where mail is slow and international phone calls are insanely expensive.

The system works like this: a HAM radio station in the United States is in contact with multiple radio stations in Europe or Asia via a structured ‘net.’ A GI stationed overseas calls his base MARS station and says he wants to talk to mom and gives them mom’s phone number. The MARS station sends that info to the net control station in the states who calls mom, then the two radio stations connect the phones to their radios and a five-minute call is made for free. Being on High Frequency radio, there’s static and squealing and only one person can talk at a time, but it’s a call home. The number of lives of lonely service men saved by these five-minute morale calls over the years number in the tens of thousands, because sometimes hearing a loved one say “I love you” is the difference between a smile and a suicide.

Lanh heard Rudy do his incantation for the twentieth time. “Alpha Gulf Alpha Two Sierra Poppa this is Alfa Fox Charlie Three Golf Delta.” She heard the two stations make contact, AGA2SP in Germany and AFC3GD on Long Island. She heard the static and the squeals of the shortwave radio, but she heard Don’s station clearly, so it’s going to be a good call tonight. Finally, Lanh heard Rudy say, “I have Lanh on the line for your number three call.” Then through the squeal and static she heard AGA2SP say “Roger, standby one...” then Don’s voice came on the line, “Hello darling, I have some great news, over.”

She waited the prescribed two seconds for the radio operator at AGA2SP to release his microphone switch and for Rudy at AFC3GD to hold down his mike switch. “Hi sweetheart, I have wonderful news also, Rosa is expecting! Over.”

“That’s wonderful, Bao must be ecstatic ... how are you doing? Over.”

“Bao and Rosa are very happy ... I’m happy for them, over.”

“That’s not what I asked, I’m concerned for you, over.”

Lanh sighed; she knew what he meant. Tam and Jake’s baby was due in July, now Rosa and Bao ... it’s like everyone in their wedding party was getting married and having kids, everyone except for the bride and groom and being separated as much as they were, wasn’t helping the average, they’ve been married for nine months and separated for five of those months. At least they got to have Thanksgiving together before Don took off to Germany, but he’s been living in the dorm waiting for housing to open up. “I’m doing ok, I’ll be better when I have a home. Over.”

“That’s my good news sweetheart, our house will be ready for us on March first, I went and looked at it today. It’s off base housing and it’s in good shape. Your plane ticket is in the mail. Over.”

Suddenly it was like Roll Call on the MARS European Phone Patch Network, “Congratulations you guys, AGA2BT out.” That was the Mars station from Bitburg Germany.
