The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting soft, golden light across Sienna’s bedroom. The warmth on her skin slowly pulled her from sleep, but the haze of the night before clung to her, wrapping her in memories she wasn’t ready to shake off just yet.
Liam’s arm draped lazily across her waist, his body pressed against hers in a way that felt both comforting and dangerous. His even breathing tickled the back of her neck, a steady reminder of everything that had happened—everything that had changed.
Sienna blinked, her mind slowly clearing. The passionate whirlwind of last night had been unlike anything she’d ever experienced. There had been a sense of inevitability to it, like they had been drawn together by something more powerful than themselves. But now, in the quiet light of morning, reality began to creep back in.
What now? She’d crossed a line—one she wasn’t sure she was ready to confront.
Carefully, she slipped out from beneath Liam’s arm, trying not to wake him as she padded softly toward the bathroom. She needed space, a moment to collect her thoughts, to process what she’d let happen.
As she closed the door behind her, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her hair was tousled, her lips swollen from their kisses, and her skin still hummed with the lingering warmth of Liam’s touch. She felt alive, more alive than she had in years. But with that came a sharp edge of vulnerability, a reminder of why she had always kept her walls up.
You’re already in too deep, the voice in her head warned.
She splashed cold water on her face, trying to shake the feeling. Was this really what she wanted? To dive headfirst into something with a man she barely knew? Yes, they had chemistry—undeniable, raw chemistry—but was that enough to risk the heartbreak that could come from letting him in? From letting anyone in?
A soft knock on the door pulled her from her spiraling thoughts.
“Sienna?” Liam’s voice was groggy, but warm. “You okay?”
She took a deep breath, composing herself before opening the door. Liam stood there, shirtless, his tousled hair and sleepy eyes making him look impossibly irresistible. He flashed her a small smile, and for a moment, all her doubts melted away.
“I’m fine,” she said, returning the smile. “Just needed a minute.”
He stepped closer, his hand reaching for hers. “Last night was ... incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever felt anything like that.”
Sienna’s heart skipped. He was being open, vulnerable, and part of her wanted to let herself fall into that, to believe that maybe this was something real. But the fear was still there, gnawing at the edges of her mind.
Before she could respond, Liam’s phone buzzed from the nightstand. He hesitated, then turned to grab it, glancing at the screen.
Sienna watched him, trying to gauge his reaction. His face remained neutral, but something about the way he lingered on the message set off alarm bells in her head.
“Everything okay?” she asked, her voice casual, though her heart had begun to race.
Liam quickly set the phone back down and turned to her with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Yeah, it’s nothing.”
But Sienna wasn’t convinced. She’d seen that look before—the one that hinted at something unspoken, something being held back. Her stomach tightened with a growing sense of unease.
She didn’t push it then, but the nagging feeling wouldn’t let her go. After breakfast, when Liam kissed her goodbye with a promise to call her later, the doubts began to swirl in full force. Why did she suddenly feel like there was something he wasn’t telling her?
Later that afternoon, Sienna met up with her friend Maya for lunch, desperate to distract herself from the whirlwind of emotions Liam had stirred up. Maya, ever observant, immediately picked up on Sienna’s tension.
“You look like you’ve been hit by a freight train,” Maya said, arching an eyebrow as she sipped her iced coffee.
Sienna sighed, pushing her salad around on the plate. “I don’t know what to think.”
“About Liam?” Maya asked knowingly.
Sienna nodded. “It’s been amazing. He’s amazing. But this morning, something felt ... off. Like he was hiding something.”
Maya leaned in, her expression serious. “Do you think he’s seeing someone else?”
The question hit harder than Sienna had expected, her gut twisting at the thought. Was that what was bothering her? The fear that Liam wasn’t fully committed? That she was just one of many women he charmed with his boyish smile and mysterious blue eyes?
