Chapter 18

“Um, you still haven’t told me anything about the house other than how you came to acquire it.”

“Oh, yeah, silly me. The house is 8800 square feet. 5 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. It has an office and a food pantry as well as two laundry rooms on either end of the house. It came with a 4 car garage, that I rarely use except for my Mercedes. You have seen the pool. Oh shit, we left the pitcher of drinks still out on the table by the pool. We should go get it and bring it back into the downstairs kitchen. The house is certainly humongous but, it is great to entertain in and who knows maybe I’ll find a trustworthy guy that I love who would like to move in here with me. What do you think?”

“About the house or about me moving in with you here?”

“Well, BOTH! I know that I love you and you have been nothing but trustworthy and a gentleman. Oh, and before you make the argument that I didn’t know anything about you my old boss at the strip club had you checked out. He told me that you have no record of any kind, not even a speeding ticket. You were married once. Divorced. You basically just gave her everything she wanted and then some. You have no children, which I wouldn’t mind having if you’re interested. You graduated from college with a master’s degree in architecture and currently, you are a junior partner at one of the top 3 firms west of the Mississippi. You are nearly debt free and save money like a mad-man. The investigator said that with all the money you save maybe you should have gone into finance. You have no medical history to speak of in regard to diseases. You are a dog lover and you like to cook. You paid $2300 in taxes last year to the IRS and you drive a reconditioned used Lexus. You give to the American Red Cross, the Wounded Warrior Project, the local dog shelter, and Children’s Cancer Research. Did I miss anything?”

I stood there stunned.

“Well yes, he didn’t tell you how I like my eggs in the morning. What my favorite adult beverage is currently. And, what brand of gas I put in my car.” I said with a big cheesy smile on my face, so she would know that I wasn’t upset with her having me checked out.

“I was very worried that if I told you all of this, you would be mad and not want to see me again. However, when I told Dar that I had you checked out she told me that I was wasting my time. She knew all anyone needed to know about you. That you are dependable. You have a good job. You are a trustworthy person who will help a friend with only a moments notice. And, as she put it, you don’t date much but when you do you put all your energy and emotion into the relationship which is why she said you were blindsided by the divorce. She also said you come with the best recommendation anyone could ever have. HERS!”
