Chapter 56: Clean Up

Fan Fiction Sex Story: Chapter 56: Clean Up - The story follows James Smith, a man who dies and finds himself in a surreal afterlife courtroom, where his life is judged as "zero sum"—neither good nor evil, just utterly average. Dissatisfied with being consigned to eternal mediocrity, he manipulates the cosmic bureaucracy into granting him a second chance in a new world, where he is reincarnated as a child with his memories intact and perks... - edited by my lovely Steven.

Christine, his mother from another reality, blinked and looked her alternate son up and down and grinned.

“Marriage! Are you sure you are ready for that?” Christine asked. “Marrying Iona is a huge step.”

“Ever since The Fenrir opened, this has seemed inevitable. It is an interesting confluence. Lord Mallow has trained Iona to be a city leader from an early age. In retrospect, ever since I tried magic when I was eight, the path to becoming a battlemage looks predestined. A marriage between us is perfect,” James noted.

“What are you going to do about all of your women? I have only met Iona a few times, but she does not strike me as someone who shares.”

“Two nights ago, I said goodbye to Anna. I gave her my share of the brothel and explained that, because of my new role, I need to make changes. She understood that I was moving on. Last night was Jan and her daughters. You had told me I had to make a choice. I have done it, I am dedicating myself to Iona.”

“I am astonished! I never thought you would grow up. I still remember the humiliation you inflicted on me, but you have turned your life around.”

“My only defense is I was under a spell. A normal son doesn’t have fantasies about his mother, sister, aunt, and others.”

“It doesn’t matter what the reason was; it happened. But it is in the past. Am I involved in the wedding planning?”

“No one outside of the tavern knows you are my mother. And I know nothing about weddings at this level. The good thing is I am the groom and just have to show up, somewhat sober,” James joked.

“You are fooling yourself if you think that is all you have to do.”

“Once Mallow gives his blessing, I will be given more information. I can play the clueless groom and outsider to the hilt. I am sure Iona has planned her wedding for years, long before she ever met me.”

“This is a huge highlight for a girl. Do not treat it lightly or make jokes.”

“Yes mom.”

James left the tavern and went immediately to the castle. He was recognized and immediately ushered in. James sought out the chamberlain. “Is Lord Mallow available?” He asked.

“He is just reading reports. I am sure he will be glad for the interruption. I will check and be right back.”

James decided to continue to stand, staring out the window while he waited. After a few minutes, the chamberlain returned. “Lord Mallow will see you now.”

“Thank you.”

The chamberlain led James to a small room where Mallow was sitting at a desk covered with piles of paper. When they entered, Mallow stood to greet him.

“How are you today, James?”

“Very well. Thank you for seeing me. I wanted to talk to you about a serious subject. I would like to marry Iona.”

“I do not have any objections, but I must understand how you see the marriage.”

“I cannot run a city; I lack the training and desire. My charge from the King requires me to travel to meet any challenge. Iona has been trained for years to run Castletown. We would make a great team—protection from me and ruling wisdom from Iona.”

“This is a surprisingly mature outlook. I am very impressed. You have my unreserved approval.”

“Thank you.”

“When will you ask her?”

“I intend to wait a week. That will provide you with time to notify Blythe so she can start thinking about the wedding.”

“And give me time to start saving,” Mallow mused.

“I have never attended a wedding, much less one in Castletown. You and your wife will have to acquaint me with my role and responsibilities,” James said. “And of course, Iona must accept,” he joked.

“There is no chance of her turning you down,” Mallow laughed. “Now I must keep a secret from her for the next week.”

‘Sucks to be you,’ James thought. “I am getting all of my affairs in order and divesting myself of my commercial enterprises. I need to do this so I can perform my duties as a Royal Knight. I want to propose to Iona with a clean slate.”

“And fewer women in your life?” Mallow asked.

“Yes, that is a consideration. When I am married, my focus will be on my family.”

“That is smart. I do not believe my daughter will want to share.”

“Nor do I,” James agreed.

After a brief conversation on his other plans, James left the castle and returned to the tavern. He and Christine sat in her office and he recapped the conversation with Mallow.

“It looks like your meeting went perfectly,” Christine said. “But do not tell anyone about your engagement until Iona has accepted. Handle it the way you did with Anna.”

“You’re right. I would be embarrassed if Iona turns me down.”

“There is no chance of that happening. Mallow is walking a fine line. He needs to keep the city’s battlemage happy as well as his daughter. If he thought there was any hesitancy in her, he would have handled the conversation differently. He is a politician, after all.”

“I understand and I owed him the courtesy of asking.”

“What are your plans for the day?”

“I am going to Garrick’s farm. It has been months since I was last there. I should visit them. I will be back tomorrow.”

“Would you like me to prepare food for you?”

“No, I can be there before dinner.”

He changed out of his formal clothes into traveling ones and headed for the closest gate. Once he left the city, he turned on the speed and ran all the way to Garrick’s farm. When the farm was in sight, he stopped to admire it. ‘This is a prosperous, well-maintained farm. They have spent their money wisely.’

Walking into the main yard, he was immediately seen by Marta. She dropped her, fortunately empty, basket and ran to him, engulfing him in a tight hug against her large bosom. Then she stepped back and looked at him, “Everyone, James is here.”

From both houses, people streamed out. For the first time in months, James saw his farm family. Emma, Bert’s wife, and her daughter Iris came from the second house along Beatice, Ryan’s wife, and Anges, her daughter. From the first house, the tiger domi Priya and her children, Atla and Fohl, came out.

“Where is everyone else?” James asked.

“The men are working in the field, diverting the stream to provide more irrigation. They will be back in an hour, just in time for dinner. Rachel, Milla, and Raphtalia are at the neighbor’s farm picking up produce for your tavern. They will be here for dinner,” Marta reported.

There was an excited buzz of comments and questions from everyone. He held up his hand, “Let’s wait until everyone is here. Otherwise I will be telling the same story several times.”

“Beatice, could you get James some water. It looks like he ran the entire way here,” Marta asked.

Tom couldn’t wait, “Where’s the doggy?”

James looked down at the boy, “Fel is not with me today.”

“Oh, I liked him.”

“Don’t worry, he will be back,” James commented. “Priya, how do you like being at the farm?”

“It’s perfect. We are accepted and contribute to the success. Our life would have been difficult in town. The kids love the freedom to run around once their chores are finished.”

“That is why I sent you. I am glad it worked out so well.”

He accepted a glass of water from Beatice and then followed Marta around the yard as she pointed out all of the improvements that were made since the last time he was there. “The new well was paid for by the tourney’s orders. Raphtalia spread the orders around to all of the neighboring farms. Their profit will make surviving the winter much easier and make us very popular,” Marta explained.

“That is what Christine planned. I am glad it worked out. Your supply of food made our booth extremely popular, so we helped each other.”

James followed her back to the main house’s kitchen. “Have a seat, and we can talk while I finish dinner.”

For the next hour, Marta told James about life on the farm and how his sisters were doing in their marriages. “Garrick made sure that some of the coins went to Lyssa and Lilly. Even though their husband’s farms didn’t contribute food for the tourney, Garrick and I wanted to share our bounty.”

“That was thoughtful, not every family would do that,” James commented.

“Not every family has such a generous son. Your thoughtful gift was shared with the family.”

Then the men returned. Garrick’s face lit up when he saw James. Bert and Ryan had already entered the other house before they could have seen James. But he knew that their wives would tell them he was here.

Garrick hugged James and then Marta. “What brings you here?” He asked.

“He didn’t tell me, he wanted to wait until everyone is here,” Marta said.

“In that case, let me clean up and we will wait on the girls,” Garrick said.

Before Garrick returned, a wagon filled with bags of produce pulled up to the barn. Racheal opened the door, and Raphtalia called out for help in unloading. James smiled to himself and stepped out to help.

Raphtalia saw him and rushed to hug him. “You are here. For how long?”

“Just tonight. Now, where do these bags go?”

“So short of a visit. You need to stay longer. The bags are lined up against that wall, on top of the wood runners.”

James started carrying the bags when he was joined by Ryan and Bert. They both greeted him, but concentrated on emptying the wagon. Once the bags were stacked, Ryan took the wagon to the corral and unhitched the horse.

The group went to the main house for the meal. Once everyone was served, James stood and started his story. “Over the last few months, I have been training to be a battlemage. I have learnt enough that I was summoned to the Capital to fight with the Kingdom’s army against an eastern army attack. I distinguished myself enough that King Destinea made me a Royal Knight and assigned me to protect Castletown.”
