I need to bring you up to date. Let’s start with the sale of the gold coins. It went off smooth as silk. Mr. Turner closed the shop and I sat in his office while he inspected each coin. He opened a wall safe behind his desk and counted out the agreed upon amount. He shook my hand and told me if I ‘found’ anymore coins to be sure and give him a call. I said I would but thought his ‘client’ may be on to something. Gold has always had ‘value’. Paper money? Who knows what a $100 bill will buy in another fifty or hundred years?
The lawyer was a bit surprised when I opened my gym bag and counted out $320,000. He was under the impression that cash meant a check. I asked if that was going to be a problem. He grinned and said no as he put the money in his bottom desk drawer. I never heard from him again.
At home I had a talk with the ‘residents’ of the house. I told them it was time for a remodel. I hired a construction company.
I had the house wired for electricity, two bathrooms were built on the back of the house, one upstairs with a door cut into my bedroom. A huge builtin closet was included. The downstairs bathroom had a ‘freezer’ room off it. I bought two chest freezers and filled them with food.
The kitchen was remodeled. I added a refrigerator and a gas stove along with a stateoftheart coffee maker! The cistern was filled in and a deep well drilled. The front porch and steps were replaced. I had the entire house painted, inside and out. It looks like something out of a movie about the old south! The residents love it. Especially Lottie. She loves to cook and does not allow anyone in her kitchen. Grandma had me build a chicken pen and I eat fresh eggs every morning. I hired a local farmer to plow an old field behind the house where I was told that in the past there was a garden. All the residents help me work in the garden growing fresh vegetables for my table.
Most of the old furniture in the house was also replaced. We decided to keep the kitchen table and chairs, along with the dining room set. Both were oak. I had the old dark varnish stripped off and then refinished using a lighter color. A new rocking chair was purchased for Grandma. I bought a California Kingsize bed for my room! I am living like some Arab king, complete with my own harem!
Those three girls are so different!
