I caught up with Mandy again the next morning. From a few streets away, I watched through my binoculars as she put items into her Volkswagen bus. She wore tight, short pink shorts and a Strawberry Shortcake shirt stretched obscenely across her chest. It was clearly several sizes too small for her.
The blush on her cheeks was bright pink, as though she had tried to make cheap makeup look respectable. Evidently, the only blue eyeshadow in her daughter’s toy makeup kit was bright blue with flecks of glitter. The look was ridiculous, but she had complied with my demands. With her daughter wearing the same makeup, Mandy could pass it off as a mother-daughter game. Anyone seeing them would think Mandy was simply being a playful mother, dressed as her daughter’s much older twin.
I knew better.
Cassy had been made up to match her mother, not the other way around. To complete the look, they both wore Cindy Brady-style dog-ears jutting from the sides of their heads. Mandy had even sprayed the ends of Cassy’s hair the same pink and purple as her own.
Clearly, Mandy didn’t want to risk the pictures I had of her being sent to anyone. So, in case I had told her the truth and really was watching, she followed my instructions. Even so, I could see the outline of a one-piece bathing suit beneath her shirt.
Cassy also wore one beneath her Strawberry Shortcake T-shirt as she came outside carrying a swim bag. Her brother followed behind her in a brief Speedo-style weenie bikini.
Mandy looked at him and said loudly, “Harrison, get back in the house and put some shorts on. You can take them off at the park.”
So she was going to try to lose me by going to Disney’s River Country. Or so I thought. I guessed she expected me to return to the theme park and watch for her there. By not going there, she must have thought she could lose me and buy herself time to find a way out of her situation. I had to give her credit for the attempt.
I followed her from a distance and was about to turn off early, planning to pick her up again a mile later. Based on the way she had left the strip joint, I didn’t believe she possessed much tradecraft. Still, I saw no reason to take chances.
Before I turned off, I saw Mandy’s blue bus head in the wrong direction for Disney. That changed my plan to let her out of sight and pick her up again later. I would stay on her tail until I was sure where she was going.
I stopped following her and pulled over when her turn signal began flashing and the bus turned into the Wet ‘n Wild parking lot. The bathing suits made sense now; they planned to spend the day there.
When she passed through the park’s entrance gate, I started my van and headed to Kmart. I hadn’t brought a swimsuit. Going into a water park in plain shorts and a golf shirt would make me stand out. I had barely passed for a Disney tourist; I didn’t want to risk drawing attention to myself once inside. I bought a cheap swimsuit and T-shirt to help me blend in.
When I arrived at the front gate, I noticed a blonde woman with three kids under twelve who clearly had her hands full. She would be my cover. I gave the woman my best ‘I’m harmless’ smile and asked, “Ma’am, would you care for some help? My wife is already inside with our kids, but you look like you have your hands full.”
She was leery at first, but decided to take me up on my offer. “Sure, thank you. It’s nice to see there are still gentlemen around.”
“Thank you. Now let me take these.” I took three of the beach bags she was carrying. We now looked like a family entering the water park, and I did not get so much as a sideways glance from the gate attendant. Once inside the gate, at the entrance to the men’s changing room, I said, “I guess this is where we part. You have fun with your kids today.”
She didn’t seem to want us to go our separate ways, even though I had told her I had family already in the park. I could hear it in her voice when she said, “Thank you again. You have fun with your family, too.”
I nodded and went in to change. In the small duffel bag I had purchased were sunglasses, a couple of beach towels, plenty of sunscreen, the new swimsuit, and a monocular. I had also packed my Glock and silencer, which I didn’t expect to need, but it was better to have them just in case.
I strolled out of the changing area looking completely different. I had on the new swimsuit and an oversized white tank top with Orlando plastered across the front. The dark imitation Ray-Bans hid my eyes, and the baseball cap hid my short-cropped hair. I had little trouble finding my quarry among the crowd. Her purple and pink highlights stood out, as did the blue eyeshadow.
I found an empty lounge chair beneath a large umbrella, close enough to keep an eye on her. If she looked for me, she would have had to scan several rows of chairs and make out my face in the shadows cast by the umbrella. She would have had a better chance of recognizing me by my crotch, since she had stared at it almost as long as she had stared at my face the night before, and from a whole lot closer.
Mandy sat alone in her lounge chair, watching the two kids in the wave pool. They waved and yelled for her to come join them. She finally gave in to the kids and pulled the too-small Strawberry Shortcake T-shirt over her head. Her breasts jiggled as the tight fabric passed over them.
She remained seated as she wiggled out of the equally tight pink shorts. She slid them down her toned, sculpted thighs and calves before kicking them free and catching them in her hands.
Standing, she turned and scanned the crowd. She looked directly toward my location but clearly did not recognize me as the man from the night before. The shadows beneath the umbrella did their job well.
She continued turning and searching the crowd, growing more paranoid by the second. From my vantage point, her search made it look as though she were once again turning to display herself. I don’t think she was intentionally doing what I wanted her to do. But by scanning for me, she was once again letting me see what I had to work with.
Her one-piece swimsuit was conservative and sexy at the same time. She looked damn good in it for a woman nearing forty. The back of the suit hugged both ass cheeks nicely. They were not completely flat, but if she didn’t keep up her extracurricular activities, they would be in five years.
Her legs looked every bit as good as they had that night at the strip club. Her turning also gave me a look at the front, which was every bit as good as the back. I knew her tits were snug inside the suit’s top. It showed off their swell and firm, rounded teardrop shape.
Between her sculpted thighs, the suit would have shown a camel toe if she had been the slightest bit aroused. But knowing she had more of a coin slot, I wasn’t surprised by the lack of a defined toe. What I had to admit was that she probably looked better in the suit than she did naked.
She got into the water to play with her two kids. I stayed back in the shadows, watching them play. They started out riding the waves until Harrison splashed Cassy for getting in the way of him catching a wave. Soon, it was an all-out splash war between the three of them. It devolved into each of them dunking another. The dunking hadn’t lasted more than twenty minutes before Mandy climbed out of the pool.
“You two behave yourselves while I go get some snacks. I’ll be back in a few,” Mandy said to her two kids. Her dog-ears were thin, brown, stalactite-looking appendages hanging from her head. The cheap blue eyeshadow had run down her face as she left the kids. She stopped by the lounge chair, leaving the towel but picking up a small beach bag before heading to the changing room.
I saw a chance to engage her kids. They seemed like good kids from what I had seen. Just the typical brother and sister fighting, but nothing more serious. So, if I were to engage them in some play, Mandy would likely know I was serious about letting her family know how photogenic she was.
Seeing Mandy turn into the changing room, I jumped up, tossed my tank top, and headed for the water. I dove in a ways from Harrison and Cassy. I swam over close by and let a wave carry me into Harrison. I made sure that when I ran into Harrison, I knocked him over. Coming up out of the water, he said, “Hey, man, watch it.”
“Sorry about that,” I said when I was upright again.
“Not a problem,” Harrison said, splashing me despite not knowing me.
I didn’t get upset about getting splashed. It wouldn’t benefit me. I needed the kid to like me. He was a way in with his mother. I went with the course I thought would work.
“Yeah, no problem,” I said, splashing the kid in return.
There was a giggle-type laugh off to our right. “You are so stupid. He could squash you.” Her comment was followed by Harrison getting splashed in the face.
It was something only a sister would say and do. It gave me another in with her brother. I gave her a mischievous smile and sent a small wall of water at Cassy.
“You must be his sister. Only a sister would say that.”
“Hey!” She splashed me back.
Again, water was sent her way. “You are, aren’t you? You’re Cassy. Your mom has said so much about you.” Then, to stir the pot between the siblings, I added, “You’re the smart one.”
Cassy immediately shot water at Harrison. “See? I told you I was smarter than you. Even Mom thinks so.”
“No, you’re not. Just because this guy says it doesn’t make it true,” he said, swinging his arm wide and sending a larger wave toward Cassy and me.
“That is true. But since I am part of the FBI, I can’t lie,” I lied to the boy. “And I am an old friend of your mom’s from upstate New York. I am Louis Braggan, by the way. I just saw your mom for the first time in years at the concession stand.”
The lies continued, but the kids were getting less suspicious of me. I found that if you kept talking to small kids, they were less likely to become frightened. I made sure I didn’t give them a chance to break in and ask a bunch of questions.
“You know, when your mom and I were kids, we played the watermelon game. Did your dad or mom ever tell you about it?” I asked.
The two kids shook their heads no.
“You’re sure your dad has never played anything called the watermelon game with you?”
“Nope,” Harrison said.
“And neither has Mom,” Cassy added.
“Your mom and I were just talking about how, when we were your age, we loved playing it. It reminded her of just how much fun it was.” The lie was another way to make the kids trust me. Sounding like a lifelong friend implied a level of familiarity and trust. “She said you two would probably love to play the game. So, do you want to give it a try? I know my girls love to play it.” I left off part about they got fingered.
Harrison piped up, “I don’t want to play a girl’s game.” He was being a typical boy, thinking he was too good for a game girls liked.
Agreeing with the little shit was easier and better than arguing. I was positive that after seeing his sister do it once, he would want in on the fun. Plus, I had observed that both of the children seemed to be good swimmers. So I was not worried about tossing them and not being able to recover them.
“Well, since Harrison doesn’t want to play, I guess I’ll just play with you,” I said, turning to Cassy. “Cassy, do you want to come over and I’ll explain the game? Plus, I’ll show you how it’s done.”
The girl took a couple of strokes and was in front of me. I made sure Harrison could see and hear as well. I quickly explained the game to Cassy just as Helen had done with me, except I changed the number of times breaking open to two. Her number was just too much.
“Okay, the game is pretty easy. You ball up tight and stay like that until three seconds after you land.”
“Land?” the pair of siblings asked in unison.
“Yes, Cassy, ball up. I’ll show you,” I said. She pushed off the bottom and brought her knees up to her chest. She quickly wrapped her arms around her shins. She listed over, bobbing like the game’s namesake. I took her by the bicep, straightening her up and getting her face out of the water. She was in the watermelon position, prepared to fly.
Not wanting to do anything that could get me labeled a pedophile, I had positioned her farther back on my hand, making sure my fingers went up her back. With my hand on her coccyx, I crouched down and, in one swift motion, pushed up from the pool’s bottom, rapidly throwing her. Her barely sixty-pound frame flew high into the air. I could hear her squealing as she rotated and splashed down headfirst. When she popped back up out of the water, she was giddy.
She teased her brother, saying, “That was so much fun. Too bad you don’t like playing girls’ games.”
Harrison didn’t respond but swam away sulking. I launched Cassy a couple more times. She kept coming back for more after her first toss, and soon other children in the pool saw the fun she was having. A little girl, Tina, was the first to swim up and ask if I would toss her too. I quickly explained the game to her and was soon throwing her as well. The ice broke, and soon I had four kids being tossed in turn. Harrison came back after seeing that one of the kids, a boy named Robert, was having fun just like the girls.
I didn’t make a big deal of him getting over himself. He waited with the other four for his turn. And while I didn’t say anything verbally as he bobbed in the water like a watermelon, waiting for me to throw him, I did change the location from which I threw him. It was farther up his back, at the waistband of his swimsuit. When I lowered myself to catapult him away, I adjusted my throw so he did one and three-quarter rotations backward. He squealed like a little girl, only louder, causing his sister to laugh and make fun of him when he was once again above water.
All the kids were on round three, and I was taking a bit more of a break between each toss. During one of my breaks, I glanced back to where Mandy had been sitting. She was once again in the lounge chair, her dog-ears and childlike makeup reapplied. With my back to Mandy, I guess all she saw was a guy tossing a bunch of kids who were having fun and thought nothing of it.
Seeing his mother was back, Harrison said to Cassy, “Hey, Mom is back. I wonder what she got at the concession stand.”
She replied, “I don’t care. I’m having too much fun to quit.”
I quietly suggested to Harrison before I prepared to launch him, “You should see if she wants to join in the fun.” I then launched him.
Coming up out of the water, he beckoned Mandy. “Come on, Mom. It’s a lot of fun. And I don’t think he will mind.” It was obvious he had forgotten my name when he said “he,” which worked in my favor.
She rebuffed Harrison’s offer. “No, I think I’m too old for stuff like that.”
Not looking over at her, I added a rasp to my voice and said, “You’re never too old to have some good, clean fun. Especially when it has a bit of a thrill to it.”
While tossing another kid, I heard Mandy whine, “Okay, fine, I’ll come do it once, just so I can say I did.” Coming up from behind me, she asked, “And you’re sure you don’t mind?”
Not bothering to turn and look at her, I answered in the same raspy voice, “No. You don’t look that heavy.”
Once again, the sheep volunteered itself to be sheared. “Okay, I will do it. But Harrison and Cassy, no laughing at me.”
To the kids waiting in line, I said, “Make way for the adventurous woman.”
When Mandy finally got in front of me and saw my face, she gasped, “Oh, no.” But nothing else came out as the blood drained from her face, making her as white as a ghost.
I grinned. “Oh, yes. Surely you remember us doing this when we were little back in New York. I think I even still have some of the pictures of you doing it. A couple maybe caught the expressions on your face while you were in the middle of enjoying flying high. Maybe we’ll have to pull them out. I’m sure you remember how exciting it was. Heck, you always thought the pictures were priceless afterward when they were shown to everyone.” The meaning wasn’t too subtle for Mandy, but the children had no idea what I was going on about.
Still ghostly white, she stumbled over her words. “Yeah, I remember that it was a lot of fun. But I thought my parents got rid of all those photos some time back.”
“I don’t know,” I said. “But probably. After all, they were really only good for embarrassing us. Now, ball up and I’ll give you a good toss.”
Mandy hesitated, again balking at the idea. She said, “Maybe it would be better if you just did the kids.”
