Focusing on impregnation, what Frank had been actively not thinking about was the question of money. He was unemployed, without much in the way of savings. He was in no position to support two wives and their babies.

After their marriage fell apart, when Jason was just a small boy, Maria took him with her and went to live with her parents in New Jersey. For the first several years they had been in a pattern where Jason lived with Frank during the summer and with Maria during the rest of the year, a pattern that made sense especially once Jason started school. Frank drove to the Salt Lake airport to pick up Jason. It was a couple hours’ drive back to the house, and as they drove Frank described the situation. Jason was surprised and confused. But Frank broke the good news to him, and showed him pictures of the girls to reassure him that they were plenty attractive.
