Chapter 9: The Blood

Incest Sex Story: Chapter 9: The Blood - A girl who barely knew her dead mother teaches herself to become her: the voice, the walk, the way she went first at everything. She studies the dead woman until she can be the wife her father is still grieving. And he lets her. She'll do anything to reach the mother she lost, even to the last place that woman is still alive: in the hands of the man who loved her most. A first-person descent into grief, willful blindness, and taking a place that was never hers. Complete.

There were a few more nights before the one where I gave him the rest of it.

Every one of them went the same way. I’d go down, and Claire would blindfold me and put me on the bed, and he’d come in and hold me and talk to her in pieces in the dark, and I’d take my mother in through my skin for an hour — the lilac, the things he never said in daylight, the grief he only had a body for down there. And when his hands started wanting more I’d make my small sound and press into him and stop it, and he’d let me. Every time, he let me. He’d have let me stop it forever. That was the terrible gentleness of him — he thought he’d been handed a miracle on the miracle’s own terms, and he wasn’t going to push it for anything.

I was the one who couldn’t leave it there.

Because holding it back kept the door open, yes. But it had also become the only thing I was still keeping — the last inch of myself I hadn’t carried down those stairs — and keeping it got heavier than giving it. And because — I wanted to. Not the way you’d think. I wanted to be the whole of what he’d lost and not a piece of it he was allowed to hold. I wanted to give him the whole of her. I wanted, God help me, to be Robin all the way to the bottom, and there was one place left in me I hadn’t been her.

I went down on a Saturday having decided that afternoon in my own bathroom mirror, the way I’d decided the first time at the kitchen sink. Claire blindfolded me and walked me back and set me on the bed, and if she felt something different in me she didn’t say it, and she left, and the door pulled shut, and I lay in the dark and waited for my father and did not let myself take it back.

He came in quiet and gathered me up and held me, and I let him have a long time of just that, because I knew tonight was going to cost him the thing he was most careful of and I wanted to give him the run-up to it. When his hand finally moved lower I didn’t stop it.

He got me ready first. That’s the part I hadn’t braced for — how much of it was him making sure. His hand between my legs in the dark, slow, patient, the way he’d been the second night, working me until I was wet and open and my breath had gone ragged and some of the fear had burned off into something warmer. He wanted me ready. He wanted it to be good for me. He took his time getting me there like there was nowhere else in the world he had to be.

Then he moved over me.

I felt him settle between my legs, his weight coming down the length of me slow, and I made myself go loose and open, the way I’d told myself I would. His hand went down between us. I felt him take himself in his fist and line himself up, felt the blunt hot head of him find the entrance of me and rest there — right against the part of me that had never in my life had a single thing against it. He didn’t push yet. He held there, just touching, and I lay in the dark with my heart slamming and the whole rest of my life waiting on the other side of the next thing he did, and I did not take it back.

Then he pushed.

Not hard. Slow, and steady, and huge. The pressure of him built against that closed part of me and went on building, and I knew in my body what I’d only ever known through a sheet with my hand — that he was too big, that there was no possible way, that I was not built to open that wide. I felt the head of him start to force the mouth of me apart, felt myself stretch around just the thick blunt tip of it, wider than I’d thought skin would go, the burn of it climbing, and everything in me said no, said I can’t, and I bit it down and breathed and held myself open and let him keep coming.

He pushed in slow. So slow. And then, barely inside me, the head of him just past the stretched rim, he came up against something — a tightness low and shallow and close, a small wall that wasn’t going to move. I felt him meet it. I felt him press on it, gentle at first and then not gentle, the pressure winding tighter and tighter with nowhere left to go, and I lay there gripping the sheet, shaking, knowing what it was, knowing it was mine and that in another second it wasn’t going to be. It held. It held. And then it gave.

I felt it tear. There’s no soft word for it — I felt the actual coming-apart, a bright hot line drawn quick and exact through the most secret part of me, a small deep thing letting go that only lets go once in a life and doesn’t grow back. A sound ripped up out of me into the dark before I could catch it, and everything in him stopped.

He held there with only the head of him breached inside me and the rest of him waiting and me shaking around it, and for one long second I felt him not understand. I felt the question go through his body. A wife is not tight like a closed fist. A wife does not tear when her husband first comes into her. I lay there run through with it, certain he was about to know everything, my heart going so hard I thought he’d feel it around him—

and then he made a low broken sound and pushed on into me.

He didn’t stop. He chose the dark over the question, the way I’d been choosing it for weeks, the way all three of us chose it every day — he wanted her more than he wanted to understand, and so he pushed past what didn’t make sense. And now I felt the true size of him — felt myself forced open around the thickness of him one hard inch at a time, stretched further than I’d known skin would go, the burn climbing the deeper he came, my whole body telling me it was too much, too much — until the head of him drove up against something deep at the very end of me, a wall I hadn’t known was in there, and pushed against it, and a dull bruised ache bloomed up out of that spot, somewhere behind my navel, from him pressing on the deepest part of me there was. His hips came flush against me. There was no more of him to take. I had never been so full — full past where I knew I went, stretched around him and pressed hard against at the very end of me, and I couldn’t have told you where I stopped and he started.

He held there a moment, deep, both of us breathing hard, and then he began to move — drawing back slow and pushing in slow, and the tear lit white every time, and then, somewhere in the slow drag of him in and out of me, the hurt started to turn. Each push drove the thick of him back up into the raw torn place and it burned — but wetter now, warm and slick where he moved, and each time he pulled back the drag of him tugged at a place deep and low in me that had started to clench after him, wanting the next push before it came. I felt my own hips start to lift to meet him. The burn and the wet and the too-much fullness of him ran together into one thing my body reached for and I didn’t trust.

Then he changed how he moved.
