After getting dressed—Monique opting for a stylish yet comfortable white sundress and sandals, while John kept it simple in light slacks and a button-up—they set off to explore the city.

Their first stop was a leisurely walk along the lake, where Monique marveled at the Jet d’Eau fountain up close. The mist from the massive spray cooled the air, and she laughed as a fine mist touched her skin.

From there, they strolled through Geneva’s Old Town, wandering its cobblestone streets and admiring the historic buildings. They visited St. Pierre Cathedral, climbing the tower for a stunning panoramic view of the city.

For lunch, they found a charming brasserie, where they enjoyed a meal of traditional Swiss fare—both choosing a rösti with smoked ham and cheese. They shared a bottle of crisp white wine, enjoying the warm afternoon. They continued their sightseeing, stopping by luxury boutiques where Monique playfully tried on sunglasses and scarves, modeling them for John. They visited the famous Flower Clock, took photos along the picturesque bridges, and indulged in Swiss chocolates at a renowned chocolatier.

As the sun began to lower in the sky, they decided it was time to return to the hotel.

Back at the hotel, they freshened up before heading to the elegant restaurant downstairs for dinner.

The restaurant was beautifully designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. The ambiance was quiet and intimate, with soft candlelight flickering on the tables.

John ordered a bottle of red wine, and they enjoyed a slow, luxurious meal—John choosing filet de boeuf with a rich mushroom sauce, while Monique had a delicate truffle risotto.

They talked about everything and nothing—Monique asking more about John’s previous visits to Geneva, and John reminiscing about past business trips and the times he had visited with his late wife.

After dessert—a decadent chocolate soufflé they shared—they made their way back up to the suite, feeling pleasantly full and content.

As John closed the door behind them, he loosened his tie and sighed. “That was a perfect day.”

Back in our suite after dinner, I loosened my tie and sat down at the desk, flipping open my laptop. The final details of the contract with Swiss Tech had already been agreed upon—the meeting tomorrow was mostly about developing the relationship, making a personal connection before the work began. I had handled countless meetings like this before, but it had been a while since I’d traveled for business, and I wanted to be prepared. Monique sat on the couch, her legs curled beneath her as she sipped a glass of water. “So,” she said, watching me, “what exactly is going to happen tomorrow?” I leaned back in my chair, stretching my good arm. “It’s a formality, really. The deal is done, the paperwork is signed. But they want to meet me in person, put a face to the name, and open a direct line of communication. There may come a time when they need to call me directly, and they want to establish that relationship now rather than later.” She nodded thoughtfully. “That makes sense. It’s like meeting a professor before a big project—you want to get a feel for them before diving into the work.” “Exactly.” I closed the laptop and turned toward her. “When we arrive, I’ll introduce you as my temporary P.A. A student at M.I.T. due to graduate in December, completing your final work experience with my company. And, hopefully, taking a full-time position after graduation.” Monique’s eyes widened. “What?” I smirked. “Did you really think I was going to let you just walk away after all this? Either to another company in France or—God forbid—somewhere else?” She was staring at me, her lips parted in shock. “You’re serious?” “Of course.” I chuckled. “How would I ever find another assistant who knows exactly how to tease me in just the right way?” Before I could react, she tackled me, sending us both tumbling onto the couch as she peppered my face with kisses. “Monique—” I groaned, laughing. “The arm! Watch the arm!” She pulled back, her eyes full of joy. “You sneaky man! You planned this all along, didn’t you?” I smirked. “I had a feeling you’d be a valuable asset.” She swatted my good shoulder playfully. “I love you.” I smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “I love you too.” She sat up, still grinning. “So, what happens after the meeting?” “We head back here, celebrate over dinner, and then go home Tuesday.” She nodded, still looking dazed by the offer of full-time employment. “Okay. Okay, I can do this.” I stood and stretched. “You’ll do great. Now, let’s get some rest.”
