Chapter 62

We slipped into bed, bodies still warm from the shower, skin against skin.

Monique curled into me, her head resting on my chest, her fingers tracing small patterns on my side.

“Sleep,” I murmured, pressing a kiss to her hair.

She sighed happily. “I wish every night could be like this.”

I tightened my hold on her. “It will be. I promise.”

She smiled against my skin, her breathing slowing as she drifted into sleep.

I lay awake a little longer, staring at the ceiling, thinking about what was to come.

She had no idea that soon, she wouldn’t have to leave me.

And by Christmas, she would be my fiancée.

With that thought, I closed my eyes, finally allowing sleep to take me, Monique, safe and warm in my arms.
