Chapter 53

Just as I set the phone down, I heard footsteps in the hallway and Monique’s unmistakable voice greeting Chantel. I quickly composed myself as the door to my office opened, revealing my beautiful girlfriend carrying a small bag from a nearby bakery.

“I come bearing gifts,” she said with a smile, holding up the bag. “Something sweet for later.”

I stood and met her with a kiss on the cheek, exchanging a quick glance with Chantel. She gave me the subtlest nod, confirming that neither of us had given anything away.

“You’re just in time,” I said, grabbing my jacket. “Shall we go?”

Monique beamed and took my good hand, leading me out of the office.

The drive to the small restaurant was peaceful, the countryside rolling past in golden hues as the sun reached its midday peak. Monique hummed along to a song on the radio, glancing at me every so often with a mischievous smile.

“What’s that look for?” I asked, amused.

She tapped her fingers against the steering wheel. “I was just thinking about something.”

“Care to share?”

She bit her lip playfully. “Well, when I went home earlier, I grabbed a few things ... including some of my lingerie.”

I arched a brow. “And?”

“And...” she stretched the word out, pretending to focus on the road, “if my boyfriend is good tonight, I might give him a little fashion show.”

I chuckled. “Define ‘good.’”

She turned to me with a sly grin. “Oh, you’re doing wonderfully so far. Just keep doing what you’re told.”

I laughed. “That sounds suspiciously like a trap.”

She giggled. “Maybe.”
