Breakfast was simple—fluffy scrambled eggs, toasted baguette with butter and jam, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. We ate at the kitchen table, sunlight spilling through the windows, casting a golden glow over Monique’s features.

She glanced at me between bites. “You’re sure you’re up for work today?”

I nodded, sipping my coffee. “It’s just a few hours. Chantel will make sure I don’t overdo it.”

She smirked. “She might be worse than me when it comes to fussing over you.”

I chuckled. “She does take her job seriously.”

She reached across the table, running a teasing finger along my wrist. “We should get going, but I’ll miss you this morning.”

I squeezed her hand. “I’ll miss you too. But you’ll be busy at your parents’ house, right?”

She nodded. “Yes, and then I’ll pick you up in two hours. How about we find a place for lunch.”

I arched a brow. “Tempting me with food now?”

She grinned. “Whatever works.”

“How does it feel to be chauffeured everywhere, I hope you aren’t getting used to it?” she teased, glancing over at me at a red light.

I smirked. “When my driver always looks this good, it is tempting.”

She laughed, shaking her head as she pulled up in front of my office. “Two hours,” she confirmed.

I nodded. “That should be enough time.”

She leaned over and pressed a lingering kiss to my lips. “I’ll see you soon.”

I stepped out of the car, watching as she drove off, already eager to see her again.

But first, I had work to do. And a plan to set in motion.
