“Goodness me, I thought the suite on the top floor was posh,” I said when Esther had shown us the accommodation for the three nights we would be staying. It had everything – a monstrous bathroom with a whirlpool, a bed big enough to hold half a football team, and for reasons unexplained, a side room that wouldn’t have been out of place in a swinger club – love swing and everything.

“That’s my place, actually,” Esther said and I saw something rare. She was blushing. “I built it for us.”

I was gripped by a moment of panic, after all, Ira was with us. I had told Esther before that I was more than willing to be with her, as long as Ira was okay with it, but that the two of us would never be in a steady relationship. And now she had built a suite that by the look of it must have cost a King’s ransom.

“For the times you visit,” she added quickly. Apparently I hadn’t hidden my doubts as thoroughly as I had thought.

“Well, you certainly won’t be bored,” Ira said with a giggle as she inspected the side room which had all kinds of sex toys in it, aligned on the walls like tools in a work shop.

“Be back in a bit,” Esther excused herself and disappeared into the spacious bathroom.

“You’re worried, aren’t you?” Ira asked me after Esther had closed the bathroom door.

“A bit,” I admitted in a hushed voice and I pointed towards her sex dungeon. “She still seems to cling to some false hope. I mean, look at that? She must have paid a fortune for it.”

“I speak with her on the phone nearly every day,” Ira tried to reassure me. “She knows you won’t be here for anything other than occasional visits. It’s her way of showing you just how memorable she wants those visits to be.”

“Your words in the Lord’s ear,” I expressed my hope that she was right. I would have hated to break Esther’s heart a second time.

The door to the bathroom opened and Esther came out wearing a pair of hot pants. The faint outline of a panty liner was visible below the fabric.

“Sorry about breaking the dress code,” Esther apologized. “Tampons are just too uncomfortable for me.”

“Nothing to apologize for,” Ira said with a smile. “And besides, your lower half is not the bit my sweetheart is most fascinated with.”

The two girls had a giggle at my expense and I felt a slight blush creep up my cheeks.

“Ready to be stunned?” Esther asked us. “Wait till you see what we’ve done in those new buildings.”

“Judging by their size and the large aircon package on the roof you could have built an ice hockey rink,” I guessed with a chuckle.

“Almost,” Sofia’s sister said as we walked through a long corridor that connected the main building to the new buildings. I noticed that it became warmer and warmer the closer we came to the end of the walkway. That massive aircon was definitely not for cooling.

A rather industrial looking, heavy fire door opened upon Esther pressing a button on the wall. What was behind that door was everything but industrial looking.

What had looked like a large three story building from the outside turned out to be one gigantic hall.

“Oh my word!” I said, stunned by what I saw. The first thing I noticed was that the building wasn’t quadratic, but rectangular and the large front we had seen from outside was actually the shorter side of the rectangle. It was vast.

“Have you robbed Fort Knox, Esther?” Ira asked.

“I took out a massive loan, but it practically repays itself. We are sold out until October, and by tomorrow we’ll probably be sold out until 2001.”

Ira and I wandered around the place somewhat aimlessly, too stunned to say anything. What Esther had built, or the companies she had contracted to be precise, was a veritable indoor imitation of a tropical beach, complete with palm trees – and upon touching them – I realized it were real ones.

The far side of the large hall was adorned with an artificial rock formation and a small artificial waterfall spilled into a large curved swimming pool that was surrounded by an artificial beach with hooded beach chairs, the likes we had seen at the baltic sea, but in here they were a bit more tropical-themed.

Several winding paths through lush tropical vegetation led to that beach and some cosy huts with straw roofs were dotted around the dense vegetation.

“I suppose the huts are a lot more sound proof than they look?” I asked with a chuckle.

“I don’t take bookings from people under eighteen for a reason,” Esther said with a giggle.

“How have you built all that in just three months?” Ira asked. “If any of that had been here in August when Ian was here the last time, he would have told me.”

“The idea was rather spontaneous,” Esther said and sat down on a bench. “When Ian left the last time, I knew I wouldn’t get to see him for months and I needed a distraction badly. Some of it had been planned anyway, but it grew in size and scope. We started digging just five days after he had left and at times you could hardly get anywhere on the estate for all the construction workers. I think in October we had seven different companies working here.”

“Sweetie, you definitely need to visit Esther more often, or her distractions will bankrupt her,” Ira said with a chuckle.

“Well, looking at this, I would say they’re going to make her filthy rich, and she’ll definitely get a Christmas card from the local electricity provider every year,” I replied to much amusement.

“Well, now that I have proper entertainment for the winter...,” Esther hinted with a smile.

“By the way, is that ‘Tiki Bar’ over there operational?” I asked.

“Of course,” Esther said and kissed me. “Beer?”

I nodded, smiling back at her.

Life had taken quite a turn over the last two years. It would soon be two years since my dad had died, and in those two years I had gone from being a nerdy kid in a small aeroplane to sitting stark naked in a tropical bar with two naked, spectacularly beautiful women, and in between I had also become the boss of now nearly two-hundred and fifty employees, who operated twenty-one passenger planes. Not too bad a development for a twenty year old.

Said beautiful women were talking to each other, sipping some rather colourful cocktails, while I was lost in my thoughts a bit.

So many things had happened that I would never have deemed possible just twenty-four months ago. The idea that I would one day have an airline had always been at the back of my mind, but back then I thought I would one day have a handful of Caravans or Metroliners doing cargo runs for FedEx or UPS to godforsaken Municipal Airfields in California. Had someone told me I would one day be the regional partner of a major German airline I would have laughed them out of the house.

In ‘98 it could be considered an achievement that I was able to find Germany on a map. Now I lived there and had even learned their language, sort of. Fred and I were the black sheep of the company, as we both had learned to hold our own in a conversation, but we had by far the most atrocious accents.

My reverie was interrupted when I felt a rather passionate kiss on my lips.

I opened my eyes and looked into the smiling face of Ira.

“You know, normally it is the job of the prince to kiss the princess awake, not the other way round,” she told me. “You were brooding again.”

“Where’s Esther?” I asked.

“Skipped off to the bathroom again,” Ira said with a hint of commiseration. “And I thought my time of the month was bad.”

“Listen,” I ventured carefully. “Would you be okay if we skipped the sex while we’re here? Esther is obviously in no condition to and I wouldn’t want to shove it in her face.”

“I had the same idea,” Ira agreed. “But at least visit her in January, okay?”

I nodded.

The third building was considerably smaller than the one housing the artificial Micronesia, but the innards of it were no less impressive. It housed a veritable spa, with different types of Saunas, steam baths, and a small massage parlour, which at a guess would provide not only bog standard wellness massages.

“Do you do something like a test run for all the facilities?” Ira asked.

“In the third week of January,” Esther confirmed. “We have invited some of our most loyal customers to test out everything for three days. Most of the personnel is new and needs to practice for their new jobs.”

“Well, sweetheart, I’m sure Esther would be glad for you to join the test crowd,” Ira told me with a grin.

“I’m not so sure,” I said. “What if some of the female testers have the wrong intentions? After all this is not a place that will have a non-fraternization policy.”

Esther let out an amused snort. “Do you think I’ll let you out of my sight for a second. Except perhaps when you get a massage. Our masseuses will have to practice too.”
