“Vickie Collins?” Asked the voice through the apartment door.
“Yes, who are you?” asked the petite 25 year old. Barely making five feet tall, the young black woman with glistening brown eyes and boyish short haircut was an attractive sight especially wearing the exercise shorts and sweat top which gave her an even younger look. ‘Cute” and Perky’ were adjectives often attributed to her even though her high cheekbones, flawlessly chocolate skin and slightly pouty lips certainly bordered on beautiful, not just pretty.
“I’m Mark ... from the clinic.”
“The clinic?” She pondered.
“You know, the fertility clinic. You and your partner ... Sarah I believe, visited two days ago. I’m here as a follow-up to see if you have any further questions or if we can provide any additional information.”
The door opened a crack and the young woman looked through to see a rather handsome man holding a briefcase and smiling.
“Uh, Sarah’s not here right now. She’s at work and won’t be home until this evening.”
“Then perhaps I could speak with you. It won’t take long. I can simply leave some additional information for the two of you and be on my way.”
“Still a bit leery, she nevertheless found the voice sincere and the door opened to admit the smiling stranger.
“Uh, Mark, I do have several things to do so could we make this quick?”
“Of course,” he replied setting down the briefcase and for the first time their eyes met. Immediately Vickie was spellbound by the hypnotic draw of his intense stare...
“I ... that is ... I...” she stammered.
“I’m here to give you what you and Sarah want,” he said softly yet his voice was not only inviting but commanding as well.
