I held Ivy and Tracy in my arms as we started to drift off to sleep. We were naked, sexually sated, and feeling a heavy dose of love.
I’d opened our bedroom door so that if any of the children got up we might hear them, or they might come and see us. Normally, they stayed in bed all night. Meghan and Ashley were old enough to be able to get up at night, go to the bathroom, and return to bed without a fuss. Catrice sometimes needed reassurance that people that loved her were around.
Catrice did indeed wander into the master bedroom and woke up Ivy, who in turn had a startle response that woke the rest of us. Despite my nudity, I got up and took Cat in my arms. “What’s wrong baby? Do you need some love?”
She nodded. “I couldn’t sleep.” She looked around at my bedmates and made the obvious statement, “You’re all naked.”
I nodded, “This is how we sleep sometimes. When you’re older you can sleep this way too, but for now you have to wear your PJs. Would you like me to read you a story?”
“Yes, daddy.”
I put on a robe and led Cat from the bedroom, down the stairs, and into the living room. There was a supply of children’s books there and I had my six-year-old choose three. We went through each book thoroughly, even talking about the characters, how they probably felt in the situation the story put them in – a melting snowman was one, and what Cat thought should have happened instead of the way the story ended. We were working on critical thinking skills, empathy, and creativity.
Eventually, Cat’s eyes got as heavy as did mine and I carried the Little Pixie upstairs and tucked her in. I sat beside her bed until she was on the verge of snoring, and then went back to my own bed. No one woke up, and I was just as glad to get some valuable sleep;.
In the morning, John downloaded his Inspection Report on the Villa to my laptop, and then he and Carol headed out for the day to the Eldorado to start the inspection there. I discerned that John had slept with my sister Kara, and Carol had been with Carson. She looked especially happy.
I spent the morning on the patio going through the Report and putting together a revised offer on the house. Diana told me that if we shared the Inspection Report with the owners, they would then have to disclose that document to any other potential buyers, even if they listed the house in ‘as is’ condition. Given the report, they wouldn’t like to do that. I dropped my offer by $200,000, to $5,950,000. The report clearly stated that remediation of everything found deficient would cost about $475,000. The sellers were getting a deal. I wanted them to feel it was a win-win.
I called Diana and also emailed her the digital report. She was at the Eldorado trying to help John and Carol, since she had some unscheduled time. I told her about my revised offer and she said that she was ‘on it’.
Devon was laying out in the sun looking like jaw-dropping dynamite. I sent her the Inspection Report, and then went and talked to her. She sat up and paid careful attention. “I would like you to prepare a task list of the deficiencies from most important to fix to least important, and indicate what we’d accomplish if we were to put in about $150,000 per year into this place. Would that get us almost to the end, or would other stuff come along to eclipse what’s in the book? Also, I am paying you to do this at the same rate you get at SPT.”
“Wow! You don’t have to pay me, please. I benefit from everything here because hopefully you’ll keep me around.”
I teased, “You’ll be the one to leave. No one is going be pushing.”
Devon got up and sat in my lap, smothered me with kisses, and then fed one of her jiggly breasts into my mouth. I was a good little nipple sucker. The result of that was that we went inside, up to my bedroom, and made love for an hour.
Diana sent me a text about four p.m. informing that my revised offer had been accepted without argument. She had mentioned that I was still looking at the costs for the other items in the Report. They had said, “No lower proposals will be accepted after this offer regardless of what the inspection showed.”
On that news, I went into the kitchen and found Milza and Analee. I explained to both of them that I had just bought the villa, and that I wanted them to stay on as our employees to maintain and cook at the house, even when we weren’t there. I guaranteed them around the clock jobs, rather than weeks or months on and off of work throughout the year. They both happily accepted my offer. They also said that they liked working for us because we were nice and treated them right.
I spent the next day with Carol, John, and Diana at the Eldorado. I also talked to Jenny for a couple of hours about the finances of the place and how she needed to spend some of the money in reserves to keep the place looking nice and functional. I showed her the report on my new villa so she’d get a feeling for what her report would look like. She seemed grateful.
“I also got on her about her marketing efforts. This was an area her late-husband had handled without sharing much about what he was doing. She just kept renewing the advertisements without changing or updating them. We also looked at her website together. The whole area needed work.
I checked out the menus for the restaurant. I thought they were inadequate too, and I had an idea. I left Jenny to wander around the resort on my own, I called Jane Masters in London. It was early evening her time. She picked up immediately and we said some loving things to each other. I told her about buying the villa and invited her to come and visit. I said that Mel did not know of my call, so if she could come, it’d be a great surprise. I even said that she could bring one of her lovers, but that both of them would be shared a lot. I gave her some details about how our open sex had progressed in the warm clime. She liked those ideas.
I then explained about the Eldorado, my opinion on the poor state of marketing for the place, and how we needed her help, and, of course, had little money. I gave Jane the website and some other details and we agreed to talk in a couple of days after she’d taken a look at the place online.
After dinner that evening, I was with Joyce and then Ivy the two oldest women in our clan. David and Carson were the oldest men, and they were with Devon and Tracy, the two youngest women at the villa. Later, Mackenzie joined me.
The screen on my cellphone lit up with her name: Jane Masters. Fortunately, I was alone and answered.
Jane said, “I don’t care what the pay is, I want the job. I’m taking off to join all of you on St. Croix. I arrive on Sunday; is that soon enough for you.”
I laughed. Jane was in her ‘in your face’ mode. I said, “Yes, absolutely. How do you want to play this?”
“I know I’ll miss you guys for a couple of days, but I booked a room at the Eldorado for two nights, then I’d like to move over to you villa and get involved in all the sex and lovemaking. I want to get the Eldorado Experience in full – soup to nuts, but I hope you come and fuck my lights out at least part of that time.”
“You got it. I could even bring in reinforcements.”
“Promise?” We laughed.
I got more information about her arrival, but she didn’t want me to meet her flight. She wanted to use the Eldorado’s livery service to get from the airport to the resort, so she got the whole welcoming experience. I told her that I’d probably see her on Monday and to keep her phone alive after she got on the ground.”
I met Jane for lunch at the Eldorado as we’d planned. She told me that so far, she would give the ‘experience’ a B- or C+ rating – nice but not that memorable for what she was getting. She hadn’t yet settled on the value-for-money issue, but it was on the weak side.
Jane said, “In my escort work I’ve been to about a hundred different resorts – some not this nice, and some way better. I’m compiling a list of good things to build on and not-so-good things to fix. I can start with the limo from the airport here – not a good experience. I had to search for the driver, get my own luggage and drag it to the car, and then have a death-defying ride here. The driver should be outside security with a sign with my name, they should get my luggage and take it to the car, the car should be spotless and offer water, soft drinks, and maybe champagne. The driver should inspire the feeling of a safe ride here, and then help me unload and carry my bag to reception. I had to do that too. Overall, I gave the pick-up and ride an F – a big fail.”
I told her, “Save that anecdote. Near the end of your stay, I’ll introduce you to Jenny who owns the place – took over from her late husband and is a struggling to keep up with it. We got her some help, and you’re part of it on the marketing side. One thing I’d like you opinion on is their menu items. I’m not impressed, but you’ll have more to say, I’m sure.”
Jane and I enjoyed our lunch. She took photos of the menus we were presented with. I told her about the property inspection that John and Carol had completed a week earlier. Their report was about the physicality of the place, and not the service or ambience. Jane said that was what she was well-equipped to focus on for the resort.
After our salads, we walked around the grounds, which overall weren’t too shabby. We left our shoes and walked the beach too, holding hands and occasionally smooching along the way.
After our walk, Jane led me to her suite and we spent a couple of hours making love. She seemed particularly needy, so I spent much of the time praising her and telling her how great a person she was. She promised that sometime soon she’d explain her sudden downer moments.
I scheduled a Tuesday lunch with Jenny Duffy and Diana Minton, the owner of the Eldorado and the new parttime property manager as of a week earlier. Jane, a guest, was a surprise fourth to Jenny. I explained Jane’s presence and how, on her behalf, we were covering all aspects of the Eldorado.
Jane pulled out her iPad Mini, and talked about her ‘Guest Experience’ from a list she’d prepared there. She gave both high points and low points, such as the experience with the limousine at the airport and ride to the resort. One highpoint happened when one of the pool staff brought her a G&T compliments of the house as she sat and tanned. They’d heard her British accent and guessed about her favorite afternoon drink. Whether the drink was the right one or not, the proactive move to please a guest was outstanding. She even had the name of the man.
Overall, it took two hours for Jane to go through her list. Jenny and Diana took pages of notes too, and Jane texted her the list that she’d prepared. The four of us talked about where we could start with the largest visible impact on guests. The limousine ride to and from the airport was certainly one place.
Jane said, “I checked and there are six other limo services on the island. I recommend that you interview each one about their level of service and cost if you give them all your pick-up and drop-off business.”
Diana said, “I can do that as part of my new job. I even know a couple of them.” Jenny looked relieved.
They decided that fixing the menu offerings in the resort’s restaurant was another relatively easy fix. Jenny would talk to their chef about expanding the choices for diners.
Next on the list appeared to be the concierge services. Everything that happened to that point had to be initiated by the guest. Jane had a list of ‘push’ services that the resort could offer to each guest – laundry, tickets to local events, rental cars or golf carts, tee times, child care, and so on.
