“Ace, what about Laura?” Mom asked. “There are almost three more weeks before we drive back. I understand you two are done. Do you want us to send her home early—on a plane or a bus?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think so. I’m hoping for some kind of truce, I guess, with her still staying here in this cabin. But, honestly, I won’t have much to say about Laura—to Laura—until I see whether I can salvage things with Tina.”
“Tina?” Dad scoffed. “The girl you left in tears?”
“I want to make things right with her. I’ll do anything to repair our relationship.”
“I need to give you advice, Ace.” Mom took a breath, I guess, to organize her thoughts. “What you must do is listen to Tina. You might not like or agree with what she says to you. She might not be willing or able to give you another chance. She might accuse you of only wanting to get your hands on her big tits. Sorry, I’m making a point. You have to show respect and listen to what she has to say to you. And if she says no, you’re going to live with the disappointment and not become a pest or, worse, a stalker. Can you do this?”
“I absolutely can. My only excuses are inexperience and my history of being bullied by Laura. I understand I should keep my excuses to myself.”
“Angie’s right. Keep your shorts on and ask to see Tina. The shorts can help, but the real challenge is showing you’ve understood needing self-control. If any of them, Iris, Irwin, or Ella want to participate, be agreeable. I suspect they will leave you two alone, but you can show you’re open.”
“I can see that, thanks, Dad. I’ll go see Tina now.”
I hugged Mom and left the cabin to find Tina, still wearing my shorts.
I found Tina inside her cabin with Irwin, Ella, and Iris.
Ella noticed. “You’re wearing shorts?”
Iris explained, “He told me he could think and make better decisions that way. But aren’t you here to talk to Tina, Ace?”
“I am, but I don’t need to be alone with her if she wants you all to stay.”
“I have a better idea,” Irwin said. “You go out on the porch with Tina. If she isn’t happy, she’ll come back inside, and you’ll know you should get lost.”
Tina nodded, stood up, and went out to sit on the edge of the porch, with me following behind and sitting next to her.
“Tina, you know I’m here to apologize, but I’d like to hear what’s going on with you.”
“You tell me two opposite things: you’re devoted to me, but Laura is still in your head. I’m not willing to compete. And what’s going on with those shorts?”
