When the United States entered the Great War in 1916, it was at a crossroads. Europe urgently needed wheat and anarchists sought to attack the crops to foil the federal desire to help. A bureau (later to become the FBI) was formed to combat criminals with the powers to cross state boundaries. This is the fictional account of a young American who landed on Ellis Island from Scotland in 1902 aged 16.
