anim8ed has a really great review just below so I won't say any more on this story other than I can't help but shake the impression of this story having the structure of solving a nonlinear equation by iterating, gradually, to a solution. It should appeal to any mathematician.
It should also appeal to anyone with a sense of justice. And, like anim8ed, I think it's horribly underrated. I will add that staying with the story was hard; I was about to chuck it around chapter 2 or 3. But stay with it and you will be rewarded.

Warning: Squick Alert! I am unable to tell you what the squicks are as it would be a spoiler which do not make good reviews. Out of Focus IS a do-over story with quite a few twists and turns that I feel has been scored lower than it deserves. The score may be due to the squicks not found in the codes squicking out some readers. The author does warn that there are codes missing that would be spoilers. Reader beware. It may be that the story may make some people uncomfortable with the early portrayal of the Main Character.
My take on the story is the author had a progression for each of the characters and achieved that progression in a unique way. It is definitely not your usual do-over.
If you are easily squicked by certain story elements I would tell you to pass. The Technical quality is great and the story is a very good read.
