The title says it all, and that's about all the spoilers you're going to get in this review.
This story takes me back in a way to the "Golden Age of Science Fiction", the sensawunda days, where an author would take an idea, a whacko idea maybe, and run with it, turn it into a short story.
Colin Barrett has done that, but he has added another dimension - he's got characterization that goes beyond a couple of blokes in a spaceship grunting at each other (having said that, the protagonist IS a bit of a grunter) and he's got a couple of interesting people here and even a bit of romance (strike that, a LOT of romance) into the mix. Ok, the story is brief, so he doesn't have a lot of room for all that, but it's there. A mere few sentences let our imagination fill in life stories for the two protagonists of the tale, and that is just brilliantly done. So much better than chapters and chapters of info-dump.
