With Christmas rapidly approaching, we're seeing the occasional Christmas story show up in the stream here on SOL. But I'm not going to review those; I want to point you to an older story you might have missed, or might enjoy going back and rereading. 'The Bob Claus,' by Lubrican, is a fun Yuletide romp. It's a story about a paratrooper who accidentally lands on Santa Clause on Christmas Eve, and is pressed into duty to act in Santa's place. The plot holds together well, the characters are likeable, and there are no major flaws.
If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know that believeability is one of the issues I always harp on. Well, this one is an exception, because any story that involves Santa Claus, elves, a sleigh that employs afterburners, and flying reindeer is way over the line. But no matter; it's still quite enjoyable, and in fact is one of my top few Christmas stories here on SOL.
Technically, it's not perfect; there are some punctuation issues and a typo or two.
All the same, I find myself coming back to this story every year. I recommend it to you.

Do you believe in...magic, Santa, love? Well, do you? You just might after reading "The Bob Claus". It's more than just another story from the very prolific writer Lubrican. You might have read some of his other works, but just in case you haven't, make it a priority to do it now.
All in all, this was a very enjoyable tale. Corny, yes, but in a fun way. It's fiction with a bit or friction, and definitely not for the younger set. This will be enjoyable if smiling is in your nature. So go ahead, take the first step, and read this tale with a smile on your face.

Perhaps it is not the most eye catching title on SOL but behind it is a story that is full of fun, a little spoof, some magic and green n... no, no, don't let me give too much away!
Well written, grammatical and funny, this is not one to miss. Take out a few adult sections and you could even read it to your children next December. They would enjoy it. I did too.
