This is pure stroke as only Jacqueline Jillinghoff can write it. It is short, a vignette of about 1,600 words, starring Danielle, JJ's favorite exhibitionist.
It is the details that make JJ's work so good, the descriptions bring the scene to life -- a convenience store in a strip mall late on a foggy night. Using a few well chosen words she lets you create your own image of this vixen, standing at the checkout in her "platform sandals, the ones with the cork heels and the pink straps that tie halfway up my calves," paying for her candy from her little pink purse.
Somehow, Danielle is guaranteed to make me smile, if not laugh out loud. She is irrepressible, and a scamp, and more fun than a roomful of teddy bears.
Technical quality is as close to perfect as it can be.
Plot? Are you kidding?
Appeal? You bet!Lots of that.
