As you might infer from the title, this is the seventh story in a series. This review is supposed to be for that story, but I can't do it justice without mentioning the rest of the series.
The first story ("Learning Dizyntk (1)") was reviewed soon after its release, back in 2010. Since then, the author posted six more stories in the series, plus two more that are tangent to the rest. I have read all of the stories and wish there were more, but there has been nothing since 2012. (NOTE:) "Learning Dizyntk (1)" is a very nice romance, and I am a huge romantic!
Humans and Dizyntk were mortal enemies. The Dizyntk are an intelligent, spacefaring, catlike race. The only reason given for the enmity between the two species is that they compete for habitable worlds. As the stories progress it is revealed that humans are oppressed by a very strict theocracy and have been lied to about the nature of their opponents. This is somewhat true of the Dizyntk, but to a lesser degree. Later stories find humans throwing off the shackles of their oppressors and settling on some of the Dizyntk worlds.
As I mentioned, "Wolf and the Cat (7)" was posted in 2012 and I have seen nothing since from this author. That makes me sad, because he has crafted a highly believable and very imaginative universe. I will miss the characters and the worlds he writes about. (I wish I had the talent to take up the reins and craft more stories.) This story is longer than the rest and chock full of action. The ending screams out "sequel coming", but there is nothing. There is no e-mail link to the author, nor does his blog allow any contact. I fear this is one more author who has dropped out of sight forever. This shouldn't be a deterrent to reading the series, however.
If you like stories similar to Star Wars I highly recommend reading this series, and please do so in the order given. The other two unnumbered stories should probably be read afterwards so you will understand the various references to the Dizyntk civilization.
