I was really amazed to find out that no one has reviewed “Christina” yet. This is one of the original three “smart girl” stories that form the core of Oyster50’s COMMUNITY series. (See “Cindy“, and “Nikki“.) Christina is the first “sister” to hook up with Cindy (the instigator of the Community), and she is friends with two other girls who become very prominent in the COMMUNITY series.

As has been noted before, Oyster50 has a formula that works very well for a goodly number of his stories: older electrical engineer befriends/rescues, falls in love with, and soon marries a much younger (scary smart) girl. The electrical engineer in this story, Alan Addison, was minding his own business in a café trying to eat breakfast when he rescues 17 year-old Christina from her mother’s abusive boyfriend.

Tina’s mother and her mother’s boyfriend are eventually arrested for drug possession, and when all the dust has settled, Tina has no place to go. Alan tries to be a good guy, offering Tina a place to live and help to get her back into school. This platonic relationship lasts about two weeks, at the end of which they declare their undying love for one another.

Confession of an inveterate romantic: The chain of events that lead up to this declaration of love is (in my opinion) very hot, and is among my favorites in all of oyster50’s stories. Later on, a bit of drama unfolds due to a misunderstanding concerning age of consent laws in the various Southern states. Needless to say, it all works out well in the end and the two of them begin to enjoy life together.

In one chapter, Alan and Tina happen to run into Dan and Cindy (see "Cindy"). Alan and Dan know each other thanks to their careers, but the real power of the sisterhood begins when Cindy and Tina combine forces. Before long, Nikki and Susan are also part of the sisterhood. Thus begins the Community.

One more word about the Community… I picture Oyster50’s study as having a giant organizational chart on the wall to diagram relationships between the various characters in all his stories who come together in the Community. If such a diagram exists, I wish that Oyster would share it with us at some point. They would especially be helpful to newbies trying to figure out who’s who.

For me one of the biggest attractions of this story, and also the Community series in general is the preponderance of loving, committed, monogamous relationships between the individuals who comprise the couples. (There ARE two polyandrous marriages as of this writing, but those are “closed groups”, with no infidelity.) Despite sometimes decades of difference between their ages, all the girls and all the men mesh very well together.

Finally, if there are any technical errors in this story I either did not notice them or they made absolutely no impact on the story. As with most fiction, the plots can be a little far-fetched but they are very heartwarming and it doesn’t take much effort to suspend disbelief.

Plot: 9 | Technical Quality: 9 | Appeal to Reviewer: 10
