Allison’s family moved in next door to Frank when he was six and she was five. Eleven years later, the mothers were openly planning the wedding. Then Allie went to her Prom with someone else. Frank got close to a classmate, Gloria, until she went away to college in Texas. Then Allie reappeared. And Gloria came back. And Sarah, his boss’s daughter, made it clear that she wanted him. Except her mother didn’t want that and seduced him to break it up. But to protect Frank rather than Sarah. Oh My, this IS a complicated one, even for JPB.
It’s also a whole lot of fun. It’s typical JPB country, where one day the guy can’t catch a break or secure a date, and the next the world is his oyster – until it isn’t. Great dialogue, terse and honest, a rich vein of humor and self-deprecating honesty, and enough care with the descriptions to allow you to imagine the scenes of the action. The story never loses pace, though at times you do want to enquire what vitamin regime Frank is on. I’d recommend trying to read this in one sitting; otherwise you’ll forget where you are in JPB’s tangled web!
