A big, black dog who can read only certain minds comes across a young teen who has that certain type of mind. Add in old Norse runes, the "Lost Norwegian Mine" and the descendants of a space faring race, you have a fun mix. Warning - NO SEX IN THIS TALE - Greg, the young teen, gets his first kiss, learns to cheat at chess and has a new girlfriend who kicks butt literally. She is proficient in all known martial arts forms. What more can a young guy want?

A boy becomes lost on a camping trip. He is discovered by a dog like creature who is really an alien. He is found by the dog because the dog senses unusual abilities in the boy. Right away they are able to communicate telepathically. On a trip to Las Vegas the boy enters a chess tournament where he meets a girl. Later he it is revealed this girl and her family are from another galaxy. They become involved in several conflicts with other aliens, the government, and others similar to the girl. The boy also gains more psychic abilities.
A scifi type story. An interesting plot about aliens that traveled here from another galaxy and how they survived and interacted on earth. A lot of interaction between the dog and boy and how the boy grows in his abilities. No sex. Fairly well written and I recommend it.
