In "Megan's World," expresso42 revisits one of the most intriguing of male fantasies, that of turning a "Ho into a Housewife."
Okay, that was just plain crude... and crude is something that "Megan's World" is not. It explores, in almost elegant terms, the desires of Dave Palmer, an English businessman who, in London on business, catches a glimpse of a sylph-like girl working the streets as a prostitute and becomes besotted with her. He finally works up a plan to spend the night with her.
The girl, Megan, finds herself constantly challenged as Dave escalates their business agreement away from a momentary meeting in a back alley and into a night of luxury. This could have been a fairy tale story with little heft, but for the characters that expresso42 creates. Each of them is brimming with back story, and in truth, according to the author's blog, "Megan's World" is a trimmed-down standalone version of a larger tale that expresso42 plans on posting as five longer stories.
The story at hand essentially boils down to a "will they or won't they" scenario. Not the sex; that obviously will happen. But will Dave attempt to make more of the relationship than exists? And if he does, will Megan go along?
The author does a nice job of leaving the reader with reasons why such a relationship will and won't work. Megan isn't simply some princess waiting to be rescued. She's become a bit hard around the edges because of her time on the streets, but she also has to deal with instincts and feelings that are pushing her to want more in life.
All in all, "Megan's World" is a nice little read, more romance than stroke piece. And it leaves promises of greater things once the author puts together the entire story for consumption.
